You know folks as opinionated a dude as I am this is one of those issues where I can’t get a real grip on what I feel should be done.
On the one hand, having the government raid these folks domain is not something I totally agree with, particularly if you read the little article below where the phone call that precipitated the initial raid is a little shaky.
On the other hand if you watch the interview, these women are mentally retarded. I’m not sure if you were to ask them what year it is they could tell you. The moms have the mindset of a child.
Is mental capacity grounds for taking away someone child? Now these women deny abuse, but we all know it happens, however there is this thing called burden of proof.
There are shit loads of examples of single mothers who seemingly have all of their marbles, but exhibit their own examples of retardation by doing things like smoking or drinking during and after pregnancy, poor relationship choices, exposing the child to physical abuse, mismanaging their own lives ect.
The government simply can’t rescue every child from retarded parents.
So what’s the answer?

Officials can’t make legal mistakes in polygamist case
(link) The recent raid on the polygamist retreat in Texas has many legal implications.Authorities in Texas apparently had been watching the compound for at least four years but had no cause to do anything about the alleged activities going on inside. That changed, they say, when they got a frantic phone call from a girl allegedly inside the compound. The girl told police she had been forced to marry a 50-year-old man and had been raped.
That was the probable cause they needed, authorities say, to go in and raid the compound. What they found was a large group of mostly women and children and several young pregnant girls. The group is reportedly part of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints group.
The first legal question surrounds the alleged call and the true identity of the caller. She has yet to be located. Authorities likely are going to have to prove her existence in order to make any cases against the group stick.
Other legal concerns surround the separation of the young children from their mothers. Some women in the sect have said they were lied to about being separated from their children.
We expect there to be several legal challenges to this case. No matter how much outrage there is regarding polygamy and the idea of young girls being married off to older men, it’s important all aspects of the case follow the proper legal protocol.
FLDS practices polygamy in arranged marriages, sometimes between underage girls and older men. Over history, the group has been swept up in raids because of their lifestyle and their history.
This case will be another test for the age-old question of religious freedom versus exploitation of children.
For the children’s sake, authorities can’t afford for this case to fall apart because of any legal mistakes.
On Monday, ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson highlighted and seemed to glorify anti-America comments made by a young Egyptian woman, whom the show interviewed as part of a regular series about young people from other countries, who compared the States to a dumb “jock” that in a few years will “die down and burn out, and what’s left is a totally useless nation.”
The young woman, named Ro’ya, charged: “In the past, if the States was a strong country, it was because it had thinkers, but right now, it’s kind of like, it’s kind of like a jock, okay — very powerful, very athletic, in a couple of years, die down and burn out, and what’s left is a totally useless nation.” Without challenge, Weir added: “Ro’ya says she would only live in America if it would help Americans understand the Arab world. This appears to be a case of circling the wagons: Wright, a black man, is under attack, so the NAACP, an organization that seeks the advancement of black people, is defending him. In doing so, the NAACP is committing an analytical and moral error. Wright is under attack not for the color of his skin, but for the content of his ideas. To defend him is to countenance those ideas. Through its actions, the NAACP is in effect arguing that anti-Americanism is acceptable, so long as its source is black. The association is sanctioning both invidious ideas and an invidious racial double standard.

Dante Brown is a playful, rambunctious toddler growing up on the city’s West Side.TraJanae Sanders is the same kind of kid, growing up on the East Side.
A lot separates these 2-year-olds, but in some important ways, their young lives already echo with similarity. Both are poor.
Both are being raised by young women who bore them as teenagers.
And neither child has a dad at home. Dante and TraJanae are two faces of a change that’s deeply affecting many neighborhoods in Buffalo — where today 43 percent of children live below the poverty line.
These two children, and at least 18,450 others in the city, are growing up in low-income homes headed by women alone. This is fatherless Buffalo.
The disintegration of the two-parent family in poor city neighborhoods, many people say, has contributed to the transformation of many once-vital streets into poverty-racked places where low-rent apartments fill with the same kinds of occupants:
Single mothers with young children. Fathers, here, have largely vanished.
“He’s a joke to me now,” Dante Brown’s mother, Janelle Dzina, said about the father of Dante. He left Buffalo for Toronto when Janelle was four months’ pregnant.
“These men,” said Dzina, who also has a 1-year-old daughter, Maria Irizarry, “they don’t respect women.”

Obama’s Pastor Slurs Italians in Latest Magazine

“(Jesus’) enemies had their opinion about Him,” Wright wrote in a eulogy of the late scholar Asa Hilliard in the November/December 2007 issue. “The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans.”
Wright continued, “From the circumstances surrounding Jesus’ birth (in a barn in a township that was under the Apartheid Roman government that said his daddy had to be in), up to and including the circumstances surrounding Jesus’ death on a cross, a Roman cross, public lynching Italian style. …
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday sought to quell concerns over anti-American remarks by his former pastor, saying people are paying too much attention to a small number of “stupid” comments.
Obama gave a sweeping speech on race last week in which he condemned incendiary remarks by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but the words of the former pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago continue to dog the candidate. Reflecting the campaign’s concern about the fallout, Obama used a question about religion at a town hall forum as an opportunity to address the issue.
“This is somebody that was preaching three sermons at least a week for 30 years and it got boiled down … into a half-minute sound clip and just played it over and over and over again, partly because it spoke to some of the racial divisions we have in this country,” Obama told an audience in this central North Carolina city.
“There are misunderstandings on both sides,” the Illinois senator said. “We cannot solve the problems of America if every time somebody somewhere does something stupid, that everybody gets up in arms and forgets about the war in Iraq and we forget about the economy.”
Obama is becoming Bill Clinton like. I mean in the “it depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is.

And neither side has a monopoly on what may be the correct path to dealing with some of America’s issues but anybody paying attention has to be struck by just how incredibly deceitful and conniving Democratic politicians are.
A simple story about a foreign policy trip or whether or not (your church and pastor of CHOICE) is a raving racist America hating lunatic can produce the most bullshit rhetoric is just beyond belief.

Lawhawk and I saw this at about the same time. In an Associated Press report on a perjury indictment for Kwame Kilpatrick, reporter Corey Williams leaves a little something out of the story. Guess which political party Kilpatrick represents?
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, a one-time rising star and Detroit’s youngest elected leader, was charged Monday with perjury and other counts after sexually explicit text messages contradicted his sworn denials of an affair with a top aide.Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy also charged the popular yet polarizing 37-year-old mayor with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.
Former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, 37, who also denied under oath that she and Kilpatrick had a romantic relationship in 2002 and 2003, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice. …
Perjury is a felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. But for Kilpatrick, a conviction also would mean his immediate expulsion from office. The Detroit City Charter calls for any elected official convicted of a felony while in office to be removed.

(AP) — WTA head Larry Scott said Thursday that he strongly disagrees with comments made by Richard Williams, father of Serena and Venus, regarding racism on the women’s tour.Saying he was disappointed by Williams’ recent remarks during an interview in India, Scott said in a statement: “The Tour has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to racism, and I have previously let Mr. Williams know that he should let me know if he ever had evidence of racist comments or acts in women’s professional tennis.”
While his daughters were playing earlier this month in Bangladore, India, where Venus reached the quarterfinals and Serena won the title, Williams told the Deccan Herald, “Well, I’m black and I’m prejudiced, very prejudiced. People are prejudiced in tennis. I don’t think Venus or Serena was ever accepted by tennis. They never will be.”

If former Democratic vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro is worried she has offended Barack Obama by suggesting his political success is due to the colour of his skin, she isn’t showing it.Ferraro caused outrage in the Obama camp by telling a California newspaper that the Illinois senator would never be winning the Democratic race if he was a white man or a woman. But facing calls for her ouster from a ceremonial role in Clinton’s campaign, Ferraro instead tried to turn the tables on Obama’s aides.
“I have to tell you that what I find is offensive is that everytime somebody says something about the campaign, you’re accused of being racist,” Ferraro told Fox News Channel.
” ‘Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?’ “
She then explained why she thought Obama was “lucky” to be a black candidate running for president, a statement that would seem to fly in the face of White House campaigns going back to, well, America’s origins.
“If in 1984 my name was Gerard Ferraro instead of Geraldine Ferraro, I would never have been the nominee for VP,” she said.
Ferraro was Walter Mondale’s running mate in the 1984 presidential campaign.

“(Within bioethics) there are areas where we absolutely must denounce some violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments and genetic manipulation whose outcome is difficult to predict and control,” he said.
The Vatican opposes stem cell research that involves destruction of embryos and has warned against the prospect of human cloning.
Girotti, in an interview headlined “New Forms of Social Sin,” also listed “ecological” offences as modern evils.
In recent months, Pope Benedict has made several strong appeals for the protection of the environment, saying issues such as climate change had become gravely important for the entire human race.
Under Benedict and his predecessor John Paul, the Vatican has become progressively “green”.

Just look at what’s #1 on the hardcover nonfiction best seller list of the New York Times: “Liberal Fascism,” by Jonah Goldberg, a paean to half-cocked research, terrible sentence structure, and a shocking paucity of logic! Why must Goldberg perpetuate the stereotype that Republicans are incapable of producing the facts to support our arguments? There’s also Glenn Beck, at #7, reinforcing the notion that Republicans are too dumb to understand evolutionary theory, and Newt Gingrich, weighing in at #8, reminding us that he is the human canker sore on the upper lip of Republican family values.
Television serves us no better. The Sunday morning news programs give Republicans plenty of air time to put our stupidity on display. We can publicly humiliate ourselves by salivating over John McCain with George Stephanopoulos. Tim Russert’s our go-to man when we want to shred a certain female Democratic presidential candidate. Create an echo chamber from the latest White House blast fax? Give Cokie Roberts a call; she’s quite the gifted parrot.
As sad as it may be, several of the alleged myths about 21st-century Republicanism have been proven true. We really do fetishize war and want to drown Medicare and Social Security in a bathtub. The size of our automobiles is inversely proportionate to our “manly characteristic.”
Moreover, a study published by Regent University revealed that Republican men are statistically more prone to closeted gay sex than Democratic men. (The only good news was that closeted Republican men tended to be single, so the revelations of their sex lives didn’t destroy entire families with twelve or more children.) And then there was that study that showed that liberals are more adaptable than conservatives. Surely, the theory that Republicans are the dumber party is amply supported by the candidates they put forward for President.
I know I’m a bit nuts for occasionally reading retarded liberal shit like this, I’m hardly insulted by it I’m more amused when I read stuff like this.

I’m a conservative dude, always have been always will be, I grew up in the Bay Area in the 1970 and was around some of the most retarded mentally handicapped liberal nuts on the planet. My conservatism is a direct result of growing up and seeing and listening to the craziness of liberal nuts first hand. Not by reading any specific books, listening to talk radio, or absorbing speeches by old right wing icons, or being indoctrinated by some conservative guru I heard on the radio or watched on TV. My disdain for liberalism stems from direct observation of these socially retarded minions.

I understand that there is this never ending battle of ideas and we all are part of it. Despite the calls for civility, I love these battles and believe that these political battles are necessary. Yes they can be nasty and bloody but the idea that “civil” political discourse is somehow possible is grossly naïve.
Both sides routinely borrow from the most extreme examples of social and political ignorance and intellectual vacancy exhibited by folks on the right and the left everyday.
