“The L word” - where are the butch dykes?

lword1.jpg

By Mrs. Snoop

Snoop and I have been catching up on TV lately. Awhile back he started watching a show made for “Showtime” called “The L Word.” And now I’ve been watching it with him.For those who haven’t seen this show before, it’s all about a bunch of women in LA who are lesbian. The characters are all beautiful (pretty much); not a butch lesbian in the whole bunch. They party all the time. They sleep together the night they meet and they move in together the next day (or week). And they all behave like they are incapable of being stable or faithful, no matter how much they love their partner(s) or how hard they worked to “hook up” in the first place.

I don’t know hundreds of lesbians personally, but the handful I do know (some quite well) do not look like this women, nor thank God do they act like them. However, in checking with my closest lesbian friend (is that like having a black friend I wonder?) she says that the show is actually more true to life then I think. She said that the population in question is largely unstable, overly-sex-obsessed, and unfaithful, despite her relationship’s longevity. We’ve talked about that trend in the past, and she believes that some of it is due to the fact that there is very little societal encouragement for such couples to stay together; on the contrary.

But I don’t know. Society supports hetereo-couples marrying and staying together. And yet, over 50% of all married couples now end in divorce. So societal support does not seem to discourage break-ups. So I’m not sure if society can be blamed for the choices people make or how they behave in their sex lives and relationships.

lesbians2.jpgThe “L word” is not a bad show. The show has some heavy hitting actresses in it, the plot always has something new to say and the music they choose is good. But I do get tired of seeing people who can never be happy in their relationships. I get tired of seeing people throw happiness away with both hands. I get tired of people looking for love everywhere but in their own relationships. I get tired of seeing and hearing about self-destructive behaviors and the worship of instant (or sexual) gratification.

It makes me sad to see so many people unwilling or unable to find and stay in healthy relationships. Whether gay or straight. Whether on TV or in real life. If anyone ever figures out a guaranteed way of choosing a mates who last for a happy life time, that person will contribute more to humanity then anyone since Jesus Christ.

“The L-word.” No it’s not love. But maybe it should be.

Latest Offerings from the Religion of Peace

From the website: The Religion of Peace

  • 7/2/07 ( Yala, Thailand ) - Muslim radicals murder a 47-year-old rubber tapper on his way to work.
  • 7/2/07 ( Narathiwat, Thailand ) - A 28-year-old villager is shot to death by Islamists.
  • 7/1/07 ( Pattani, Thailand ) - Muslim terrorists fire on a group of young students, killing a 58-year-old teacher and injuring two boys, ages 9 and 11.
  • 7/1/07 ( Pattani, Thailand ) - A woman is killed, and two other people injured when Islamic gunmen fire into a Buddhist tea shop.
  • 7/1/07 ( Grozny, Chechnya ) - A landmine attack kills two Russians.
  • 7/1/07 ( Helmand, Afghanistan ) - A British soldier is killed by a suicide bomber.

Moments after the latest terror attack on Britain, television commentators engaged in the usual rhetorical hara-kiri, blaming everyone but its authors: the two Muslim jihadists jumping out of a burning car at Glasgow’s international airport ululating “Allah! Allah!” — even as one of them was barbecued — and the European Union’s vast Muslim fundamentalist infrastructure, which spawned them.

The initial discussions of the three car bombs — two in central London were defused, unexploded — were déjà vu writ large: Blaming the victims, criticizing British foreign policy offenses that might have “driven” British Muslims to kill their countrymen, highlighting the frustrations of minority communities forced to live in the West, and renewing calls for — yes, indeed — more interreligious dialogue.

It was not much better in America. With live images of the Glasgow International Airport fires blazing away, American networks hosted the so-called experts who, again, explained the “torment” of poor Muslims. Disgracefully, one guest — Michael Scheuer, a former CIA analyst who is a familiar face now whenever instant analysis is needed — droned on about the many reasons Muslims are “so” offended by this or that behavior in the West.

As long as Sharpton and Jackson are around black folks won’t be taken seriously

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

jacksonsharpton.jpgThis is a portion of an entry from Right Wing News, keep in mind that this is a site that I read often and links to a lot of his posts. But this is the general feeling of the white bread blogsphere.

On the one hand, I think Don Imus is an obnoxious creep. In addition to that, he’s to the left-of-center, so watching his being publicly flayed alive in a slow news cycle because of comments about “nappy headed hos” and “jiggaboos” on his show is generally fun for me.

On the other, I am sick and tired of the sort of political correctness and double standards that demand that guys like Imus prostrate themselves in front of anti-Semitic, worthless sacks of crap like Al Sharpton. Well, at least it wasn’t Jesse Jackson, right? In fact, if you think about it, this Imus appearance with Reverend Al is almost like one drug dealer taking over another’s territory. It’s like a silent acknowledgment that Al Sharpton has supplanted Jesse Jackson as the biggest race hustler in America.

Yes because as I said the media has trotted out (yes, race hustlers) to the forefront of this issue, Imus will be laughed off and the issue will fall on deaf ears.

Trust me I am as aware of anybody that white people say crazy this shit all the time.
Those of you who remember the old show All in the Family remember how white liberal types were outraged that such racially insensitive language was use in national television.
But I liked All in the Family because I believed that Archie was not this lone wolf who grumbled and moaned at the mere existence of niggas in his neighborhood, his behaviors were more typical of the average white household.

The lily white media and the blogsphere want this to go away, because of the “evil political correctness” that permeates our society.
Rednecks will use this overused term to cry foul that one of their own is being dragged through the mud.

Sharpton and Jackson’s past no doubt will trump having a mainstream on-air personality throw out racial bullshit with no restitution. Basically “those two niggers have used racially insensitive language in the past, so what tis the big deal with Imus.”
I have read countless comments.

Until Jackson and Sharpton die off, people will never take issues like this seriously.
Sharpton and Jackson thrive on victim hood and unfortunately way too many black people take them seriously and it’s sad.
NO serious discussion of this can take place until someone shuts them the fuck up and the media stops inviting them on and giving them free airtime.

WANTED: The Non-Threatening Negro. – The Fear Of A Free Black Intellectual

meetthepress.jpg

The findings contained within The Urban League Institute’s report, “Sunday Morning Apartheid: A Diversity Study of the Sunday Morning Talk Shows” which show that only 8 percent of the guests on the major Sunday morning talk shows over the past 18 months – or only 176 times out of more than 2,100 opportunities - were Blacks comes as absolutely no surprise to me. The fact that 122 of those 176 appearances were made by Juan Williams, Colin Powell, and Condoleezza Rice was even less of a surprise.

For years, I have had conversations with Black friends and Black and White colleagues of mine in the media that the problem - that statistics like this point to - is not one of just simple racism, where Whites don’t want Blacks to appear on a show. Nor, I have argued, is the problem simply one of innocent cultural and professional oversight, where people ‘naturally’ choose to only network and do business with their ‘peers’. It is also not a simple case of liberal or conservative bias in the media, as I am sure many will attempt to prove.

There is something far deeper at work.
