(CNSNews.com) – Sirhan Sirhan, who assassinated New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D) during the 1968 presidential campaign, is listed as a “political prisoner” to whom authors William Ayers and wife Bernadine Dohrn dedicated their 1974 book.
The book was entitled “Prairie Fire: The Politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism.” The information about the fairly obscure book was reported Thursday on the Fox New Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes.”
This is just the latest report concerning the background of Ayers, a domestic terrorist in the late 1960s and early 1970s and a leader in the radical Weather Underground. He took credit for bombing the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, crimes he was acquitted for because of prosecutorial misconduct.
The background of Ayers, now a professor of education at the University of Illinois- Chicago, has been resurrected this year in the midst of the presidential election because of his association with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Obama ran a multi-million dollar education foundation, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, along with Ayers from 1995 through 2002. Obama also served on the Woods Fund board with Ayers from 1999 to 2002.
Obama launched his political career in the home of Ayers and Dohrn in 1995, when he announced his run for Illinois state senate. Ayers never repented for his past terrorism and told The New York Times that he sometimes thinks he should have done more.
Sean Hannity, the conservative co-host of “Hannity & Colmes,” said the book was difficult to obtain for Fox News, and was not available in the New York City Public Library. Sirhan Sirhan is one of about 100 names listed among the dedicatees.
Obama has said that he was not close with Ayers. His campaign Web site says he publicly denounced Ayers and that “smear groups and the (Republican presidential candidate John) McCain campaign are trying to connect Obama to acts Ayers committed 40 years ago – when Barack was just eight years old.”
Commenting on the show last Thursday, Hannity said, “This college professor, who is just a guy from the neighborhood, who never meant to hurt anybody, who bombed the Pentagon, the Capitol, New York City police headquarters, dedicated his book to the man who assassinated Robert F. Kennedy.”
Sirhan Sirhan was a Palestinian terrorist who shot Robert Kennedy on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles, Calif., in the midst of Kennedy’s run for the Democratic presidential nomination. He reportedly carried out the assassination because of Kennedy’s expressed support for the state of Israel.
