In fact, Chris Mathews — a left-leaning news commentator who is often an apologist for Democrats — said years later that he had seen Senator Hillary Clinton using a Secret Service agent to carry her bags on the Washington to New York shuttle. “Who in the Senate gets a sherpa to carry their bags for them? Who pays the airfare for this guy? Who pays for his life-style? Who pays his salary to walk around carrying her bags? This looks pretty regal” (Hardball, 08/01, quoted on Newsmax.com, 07/17/01).

Never before have Louisiana politics and Eddie Murphy meshed so well.According to The Associated Press, state Rep. Carla Blanchard Dartez, D-Morgan City, ended a telephone call with the mother of the NAACP’s local president by saying, “Talk to you later, Buckwheat.” The mother in question is Hazel Boykin, a prominent civil rights activist who helped desegregate restaurants and Terrebonne’s school system in the 1960s.
When I read this, I figured another Republican was promoting the use of ignorance and intolerance when it comes to race relations. I also predicted another arrival of the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to Southern Louisiana to call for someone to resign. Then I reread the passage more carefully and noticed her political affiliation.
Lo and behold, she’s a Democrat.
Ordinarily, this story would be little publicized at any other time. Unfortunately, this Saturday is the date of her run-off election against Republican challenger “Joe” Harrison.
Dartez’s incumbency should come to an end.
Buckwheat, for those of you who claim ignorance, is a black child character from the Our Gang (Little Rascals) series of short films in the 1930s and ’40s. Billie Thomas, the man who played Buckwheat, always defended his work in Little Rascals, saying the black kids were always treated equally with the white kids in the series. Over time, though, the character became synonymous with the “pickaninny” stereotype of black children, and its use is comparable to using the N-word.
Saturday Night Live altered the word’s meaning in 1981, when Eddie Murphy premiered his version of Buckwheat to the world. Producing an album called “Buh-weet Sings,” he crafted and fine tuned his impression so well it became stock research when it came to SNL history. From then on, no one thought about the term Buckwheat as offensive because Eddie Murphy said so.
The conservative blogosphere is having a field day. Republicans are ripping her to shreds, thankful for once it wasn’t one of them saying something incredibly stupid. Rep. Dartez released a statement saying, “I made an insensitive comment when speaking with Hazel Boykin, and I have apologized to the Boykin family and publicly for my choice of words. I have a strong record of fighting for issues important to the African American community; in fact, I have a 93 percent voting record with the Black Caucus.”
She has a point. According to Project Vote Smart, in 2006 Rep. Dartez joined 37 other House members in voting for a bill prohibiting discrimination and harassment in state employment. But this is Louisiana, and since it’s important to keep discrimination and harassment legal for state employees, the bill was defeated 38-58. I think she was only marginally confused when she voted against a smoking ban in cars with securely-fastened children in them. That bill has now become law. While my picture may have a cigarette in my mouth, I’m not dumb enough to smoke around kids. People should know better.
Apparently, Rep. Dartez isn’t one of them.
She has also been under legal fire for her husband, Lenny Dartez, who was arrested Sept. 25 and later indicted on charges of harboring illegal immigrants from Trinidad, according to KLFY.
This came after the representative was given a summons for improper lane change when she broke the arm of a pedestrian, securing her Best of New Orleans 2007 Jungle Primary Award for “Worst Timing to Foul Up a Sure Re-Election.” This dubious distinction came before her Buckwheat comment, effectively winning her the award a second time before tomorrow’s run-off.
Democrats have been swiftly repetitive in pointing out her conversation occurred with a supporter, but Jerome Boykin, son of Hazel and president of the Terrebonne Parish chapter of the NAACP, withdrew his support. “The NAACP is going to do all it can to see that she is not re-elected,” he said. “At this point, the NAACP is not concerned about the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. If a Republican is elected because of her racist remarks, that’s her responsibility.”
Jerome Boykin is exactly right. No preferential treatment should be given to Rep. Dartez for her insensitivity. I’m not saying she’s a racist; rather, I’m saying she was stupid. As the late Molly Ivins once observed, “if we took all the fools out of the Texas Legislature, it wouldn’t be a representative body anymore.” The same can be said for the whole country. People say stupid things all the time, but most often a gaffe as mind-numbing as this one comes with Jackson and Sharpton coming to preach about universal rights, perhaps even linking Rep. Dartez to someone like George Allen, who couldn’t realize his ignorance when pointing at a man with a camera and calling him “macaca.” My political views might change as I grow older, but I’ll always be black, and it will always sting to hear someone spew insensitivity, even on accident.

Some Georgians Want the Cynthia McKinney Parkway To Hit the Road

ATLANTA, Ga. — Former Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney has pulled up stakes and moved to California, where she is considering a Green Party run for president. Now some Georgians want to erase a constant reminder that she ever lived in the Peach State.
A 20 mile stretch of I-285 — a main thoroughfare that connects downtown Atlanta to the suburb of Stone Mountain — was renamed the Cynthia McKinney Parkway in 2000 after the congresswoman secured $14 million in federal funding for DeKalb County to upgrade what was then called Memorial Drive.
Georgia House Rep. Mike Jacobs is supporting a state resolution proposed last year that calls for the parkway to revert to its original name.
“If had I had to pick any road in the state of Georgia to strip the name from, this would be it,” said Jacobs, who represents part of DeKalb County. “The original name of the road is Memorial Drive, which is named for the men and women who died protecting our freedom.
“Who’s more deserving? I think the question answers itself.… [And] in light of the fact that her commitment to the state of Georgia is nil, we should re-double our efforts to remove her name from a state road.”
I remember when they named this highway after this crazy “nappy headed ho” YES I said it, so what!?
This was another embarrassing moment in Negro decision making.

The occasion of Mrs. Clinton’s speech was the 42nd anniversary of Bloody Sunday, on March 7, 1965, when 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by police with billy clubs, cattle prods and tear gas, one of the high points in the black civil rights struggle. Commemorating a key point in American history is one thing, but a white person mimicking black dialect is demeaning and insulting. And, if it buys her votes from those in attendance, not much flattering can be said about them.
Mrs. Clinton later explained her drawl, around black audiences, to a meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, “I lived all those years in Arkansas, and, you know, I’m in this interracial marriage.” The interracial marriage bit has to do with the frequent reference to former President Clinton, by the Congressional Black Caucus and others, as the “first black president.”
Distraught Mother Describes Forgotten Daughter’s Death in Hot SUV

We can now hear, for the first time, Brenda Slaby’s emotional and personal account of what happened August 23. That’s the day Slaby left her two-year-old daughter in a hot car while working at Glen Este Middle School.
Slaby’s comments are contained in a two-hour interview done with Union Township police.
She wonders out loud, “How can I go on?” She frets, “Good mothers don’t do this!” She worries that she failed her daughter.
Clermont County prosecutor Don White didn’t prosecute Slaby because he found Cecilia’s death was an accident.
Union Township police had recommended a charge of child endangering.
Look if you are that damm self absorbed, selfish or scatterbrained to take parental responsibility, then do us all a favor, do not have fucken kids, don’t procreate your particular DNA frankly is not needed and not required.
All of you idiot people who leave babies in cars, back over them in driveways, leave them in stores, leave them in hotel rooms while you enjoy a nice dinner, drown them in bathtubs, smoke in your cars while they are held hostage in the back seat, refuse to change shitty diapers, keep them in the same fucken clothes for days on end, allow them to walk barefoot in Walmart, send them to the store to buy your cigarettes and lotto tickets, allow them to “play” with your pit-bull and beat them because your life is fucked up; do us all a favor why not lock yourself in a hot car with an exhaust hose.

A shady Chinese megadonor to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign has close ties to an aerospace mogul accused of placing his business interests before national security by sharing missile secrets with Beijing during the Clinton administration.Before his forced resignation last week, Norman Yuan Yuen Hsu sat on the board of trustees of the liberal New School university in New York with former Loral Corp. head Bernard L. Schwartz, who was allowed to transfer restricted satellite and missile technology to a People’s Liberation Army front after contributing a record amount of cash to President Clinton’s 1996 campaign.
The New School has removed Hsu’s name from its list of trustees. But the old list showing both Hsu and Schwartz is still captured on Google’s cache files. Here is the screen shot.
Schwartz, vice chairman of the New School board, was among officials who introduced Hsu to the school’s administration, WND has learned.
Last November, Schwartz and Hsu chaired a New School banquet at the Mandarin Oriental in New York which featured Sen. Clinton as keynote speaker. Clinton steered a $1 million federal grant to the college.
More recently, Schwartz and Hsu (pronounced shoo) appeared together at the New York Yacht Club for Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy’s 40th birthday bash.
The pair are so-called HillRaisers – major donors to Clinton’s war chest – with Hsu raising more than $1 million for her campaign. Hsu, like Schwartz, has lobbied the U.S. government to relax trade rules with China.
Before he was a Friend of Hill, Schwartz was a Friend of Bill. In fact, then-President Clinton feted Schwartz on his 71st birthday at a White House dinner.
Sources say Schwartz vouched for Hsu at New School, even though he was a fugitive convicted of grand theft in California.
New School President Bob Kerrey assumed Hsu, now in jail, was reputable. The former Democrat senator says he didn’t question Hsu’s credentials because he liked him. He also was taken by “his personal story, coming from China, and he had an interest in fashion as well.”
“It all intrigued me,” Kerrey said.
Of course, Hsu also gave generous sums of cash to Democrats and their causes, including The New School.
Kerrey assumed Hsu, a self-described apparel magnate, made his money in the garment industry. But even that claim is now in question.
It turns out that the various companies Hsu listed on federal campaign filings with the FEC no longer exist, and may always have been fictitious. Last decade Hsu declared bankruptcy.
The FBI has opened a criminal investigation into Hsu’s fund-raising activities.
The Los Angeles Times will report on this website later tonight and in Wednesday’s print editions that a major Democratic Party fundraiser named Norman Hsu is wanted by authorities for skipping out on an agreement to serve up to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft swindling charges.
In an exclusive story by Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, The Times will report that for three years Hsu has been carving out a place of political and financial influence by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into Democratic Party coffers, much of the money earmarked for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He has earned the ranking of Hillraiser for pledging to raise at least $100,000 for her.
He has given to several big-name Democrats, including presidential candidates Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Swimmer Kennedy, too.
“He is a fugitive,” said Ronald Smetana of the California attorney general’s office. “Do you know where he is?”
Perhaps he’s in China where the rest of the Clintons’ 1996 pals fled to.
The LA Times reports that Norman Hsu, powerful fundraiser for the Democratic party, is a wanted man “hiding in plain sight.” Declared a ‘fugitive’ by the California attorney general, Hsu is wanted for evading a jail sentence for pleading no contest to charges of grand theft swindling.
Hsu evidently faced up to three years in prison for the charge. Hsu’s lawyer, contacted Tuesday, recalls neither Hsu’s pleading to a criminal case nor facing jail time.
Over the years, Hsu has contributed to the campaigns of Dianne Feinstein, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Edward Kennedy. His fundraising efforts for Hilary Clinton already total over $1 million. A spokesperson for the Clinton campaign said “We have no reason to call his contributions into question or to return them.”

There are certain almost incomprehensible stories that you see semi-regularly repeat in the news. For example, it’s a given that every few weeks you’re going to read about some crazy cat lady who has 50 cats, 40 dogs, 5 birds, and the whole lot of them are starving to death in knee deep feces in her trailer.
That, I can kind of understand. You get some lady who loves animals, just can’t say no, and she keeps taking animals in until she gets to the point where she just can’t take care of them all, but she still can’t say “no.” In other words, she thinks like a liberal and puts being “nice” above actually being able to take care of the animals and thus, causes a disaster.
However, stories like this one also regularly reoccur and they don’t seem to be as easy to explain,

Police interviewed a 17-year-old girl from Indiana they believe is the baby’s mother.A call for “medical aid” went out from the restaurant, which is located at 1168 W. Katella Ave. around noon. The woman who found the baby was instructed by a dispatcher to take the baby out of the trash and ensure she was breathing, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.
…Authorities determined the baby was newborn and healthy, Martinez said.

What we need to do is look long and hard at our part in all this. Where did our children get the message that the rules don’t apply to them? And where did we, the Mothers, get the message that if we abdicate our responsibilities as Mothers, the Universe will do our job for us? And it does, but without any of the love and tenderness and compassion that we could have given, along with the lessons.
Now it’s just the cold hard facts of a jail cell or the emptiness of a rehab room.
I’m not pointing fingers. I’m asking questions.
Can we take the wrenching sight of Paris asking her mother, “why?” and ask it of ourselves?

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it’s time to replace an “on your own” society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.
The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an “ownership society” really is an “on your own” society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.
“I prefer a ‘we’re all in it together’ society,” she said. “I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none.”
That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.
“There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed,” she said. “Fairness doesn’t just happen. It requires the right government policies.”
Clinton spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.
“We have sent a message to our young people that if you don’t go to college … that you’re thought less of in America. We have to stop this,” she said. “Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school.”
