Redefining Conservatism

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

rep.JPGDES MOINES, Iowa–Stepping out for a press conference here Monday, Mike Huckabee fielded the ultimate question. Just how conservative are you?”I’m as conservative as anyone could hope to be, or want to be, or needs to be,” replied the smiling former Arkansas governor, never missing a beat, and following up with a boilerplate summary of his belief in “lower taxes,” the “sanctity of human life” and a “strong military”–before moving ever so swiftly on to the next question.

It was trademark Huckabee: Sounds great, explains little. It’s a strategy that has so far served him well, rocketing his campaign in recent weeks to the top ranks of the Republican presidential field. The question is whether he can continue to pull off that trick, now that he’s receiving belated media scrutiny. A few days following the candidate on the Iowa campaign trail suggests it could prove tough. If Mr. Huckabee does turn out to be everything Republicans “want” or “need” in a conservative, it will only be because the definition of a conservative has morphed to include tax hiking, protectionism, corporate scolding and an unserious approach to foreign policy.

What aren’t in doubt are Mr. Huckabee’s social-values credentials. He has an undisputed record on questions of abortion and gay marriage, and he’s spent no small portion of his limited advertising money making sure Iowa voters know it. Christian conservatives make up an estimated 40% of the state’s GOP vote, and by all accounts he’s slowly locking up that vote. That alone accounts for a fair share of his recent rise in the polls.

Mr. Huckabee is the charisma candidate. Like another man from Hope, Ark., the onetime pastor is an extraordinary speaker. He’s self-deprecating and funny, has perfect timing, and never struggles for an answer. He has that rare ability to pull out just the right story in response to any situation, and to deliver it in a folksy, Southern way.

Read the rest of this article here, but let me first just say this; Folks I’m angry, as angry as someone can be on Lexapro, and drinking Irish Cream on the rocks at 9:00a.m.
As this piece points out we are allowing people to redefine conservatism, this article focuses on Huck but the same can be said for 3 faux Republicans and what is worse far too many of you are allowing it.

As of today, December 18, 2007 I still have the utmost confidence that Fred Thompson will be the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States.
One reason why I believe that is because the major networks are completely ignoring him. Snoop WTF? I’ll explain.
Virtually every pundit on Fox goes out of their way to dismiss him and call him irrelevant. Republican pundits on interviews won’t even mention him.
I have even heard a couple of Democratic strategist say if he does not win South Carolina he will be out of the race.
Ask yourself this, if Fred Thompson’s campaign is in its final days, they why go out of your way to mention that?
Basically the media and the pundits are working awfully hard to discredit “an irrelevant” candidate.

Lets get real here; the Democrats do not want to run against Thompson, because he is not a closet liberal, because he has never advocated for big government, opening our boarders to illegal immigrants, reducing our military, backing away from the war against Islamic terrorist pimps, granting clemency to murderers and the list goes on.
He is not flashy, not a smooth talker, he looks like a worn out grandpa on most days, has this annoying clearing of the throat thingy he does, and dude needs to STILL get some good designer to have his suites tailored to fit him better.
But most of all I respect and admire an individual who is one of the Thompson’s campaigns most important individuals. I have said this before and I will say again, he has said to me that Thompson is a good man and a sincere man and could make a great president. He believes in him. From this individual, that is enough for me.

Every Republican pundit pulling for one of the three frauds dismisses him, because they want to avoid the conservative comparisons.
My anger comes from the people who claim to be Republican and some TV and blog pundits who proclaim themselves to be on the “conservative” bandwagon touting the faux conservative credentials of candidates like Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani? What the fuck are you people drinking in the morning?

We need to stop trying to redefine conservatism, maybe some of you need to go back and understand what that actually means.
If you people who have given your support to these frauds don’t wake up this party will be on the outside looking in the next 8 plus years, because you allowed fictitious poll numbers, Sunday morning Baptist preaching rhetoric, New York shyster slick talking points, and a lying ass LDS fraud to redefine conservatism.

Unlike a great number of bloggers and pundits who pimp for these campaigns, I’m not in Thompson’s pocket, I’m not paid to put a bunch of banner bullshit on my site, I don’t work for his campaign, not a family member, a friend from back in the day, has never been invited to interview or spend time with a candidate, I don’t have exclusive access to a campaign, never been invited to a campaign rally or party, not a pimp for the Republican Party.
Not paid to post my opinions on my blog or any other blog, do not receive one dime of money from blogging.
I do it because I love blogging, I have fun doing it, and I love to share my opinions. What you read and see is what I am.

If Fred does not get the nomination, the world will not end, I will be greatly disappointed, and I will be forced to support one of these frauds.
The only thing I can hope for is a Republican majority in one or both of the chambers.
Hopefully some Republican discipline will be administered.
Bottom line I’m just a brotha tryin’ to make sense of this campaign bullshit and seriously is not liking what he is seeing.

Are Rudy and Hillary related? They both have “shyster” in the DNA

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

Folks as a Republican let me honestly say I’m a bit worried. As of today the front runners in the party are a homophobic, big government, criminal coddling, scammer, former RINO Baptist preacher; a confused, flip flopping, lying ass, Mormon RINO; a prima donna, pretend 9/11 hero, liberal, with mountains of ethical and moral judgment issues.

I’m watching Meet the Press and listening to Giuliani and I feel sick to my stomach because this corrupt dude could be the nominee. Frankly if any of these dudes get the nomination it could be disastrous to the Republican Party.

Here is a clip from MTP, I’m not posting this particular clip to make a specific point.
For me I’m a person that makes a lot of decisions with my basic gut instincts.
I don’t tend to over process shit. When I watch interviews like this, unless a person says something appallingly stupid I tend to give him or her slight benefit of the doubt.
But Rudy is a shyster plain and simple. I would not trust this individual anywhere near the White House.

I guess you should never watch a political talk show on an empty stomach or without at least a good cup of joe, with a shot of Irish Cream, Yummy!

I’m gonna go do that, then scan through MTP again, to see if I change my mind.
I’ll post accordingly, but don’t hold your breath.
.

In case you missed what was said back in August. This is a good example why you should NEVER pay attention to poll numbers.

September 11th Is A Date Which Will Live In Infamy

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

From the blog Jeremayakovka

Partisan liberals are gearing up for their “stop Rudy” campaign. I can feel it.

Here are some choppily edited video clips, found at Dana Goldstein’s blog (who found it at Talking Points Memo), of Rudy Giuliani’s frequent invocations of September 11th during interviews, debates, and campaign appearances. Dana calls this a tick (as in, a nervous tick), whereas I would say it’s a tack — a strategy to remind Americans of his own leadership, certainly, and by extension of the leadership of many other Americans on that awful and awe-inspiring day.

People who take issue with a leading presidential candidate, one who oversaw the most intense locus of that day’s crisis — oversaw it more directly than either the president or vice president — should have to answer the following:

“September 11th is a date which will live in infamy.”
Do you agree , or disagree, with that statement? (Yes or No.)

Renaming The Tombs for Kerik bad move for Rudy Giuliani

Monday, November 12th, 2007

kerik1.JPGThe car takes the right off Centre St., comes to a stop beneath the pedestrian walkway connecting one building of The Tombs to the other. The correction officer behind the wheel rolls down her window, and as soon as you tell her you are from the newspaper, before you can even ask a question, she says, “Kerik, right?”"Where was his name?”

Now she points a finger toward the walkway above her.

“Right up there,” she says. “Been gone more than a year.”

There are two signs up there now, one on each outside wall, both reading the same way: “Manhattan Detention Complex.” It is one of the most famous jailhouses anywhere, and there was a time when its official name wasn’t grand enough for Rudy Giuliani, back when he was the hero mayor of New York and his police commissioner - the one indicted on 16 counts the other day - had to be a hero, too.

That is why Giuliani renamed The Tombs after Bernie Kerik in December 2001. Six years later, that is more interesting than ever, a jail being named after Kerik, just because one of these days he could end up inside one.

A sidebar……. let me say as a Republican, we are fucked. Now I’m not conceding anything to Democrats for 2008 because Hillary is floundering, Edwards can’t be trusted, Obama…well his name is Obama, dude is black, a presidential campaign death sentence,
(Oh wipe that shocked look off your face! You know I’m telling the truth, as I have said from the first day of his candidacy I’m just the only person with the ballz to be honest about it.)

Anywho, Republicans, being fucked, Rudy as the campaign wears on will have way too many skeletons both personal and professional to garner support.

The talk at Blogworld was that the Thompson campaign is dead in the water. Yes you heard me correctly; the universal phrase I heard over and over was that Thompson comes across as if he does not give a damm about his campaign.
So unless he comes up with some blockbuster performance at a debate or some major speaking engagement, my hope for him is fading.

McCain may be able to take advantage of this apathy. Romney, no. Huckabee, no. Paul, sorry people, no. Hunter, unfortunately no, although I like the dude at least from what I have been able to hear from him.
Bottom line is the campaign on the Republican side is as muddy as a Louisiana swamp.

On the left, although not an Al Gore fan, if dude would get into the race, he would instantly be the front runner and it would be fair to say he would be a shoe in for the Democratic nomination.

He may be rethinking his “not interested” status.

Christian Conservatives Consider Third-Party Effort

Monday, October 1st, 2007

rudy3.jpgAlarmed at the chance that the Republican party might pick Rudolph Giuliani as its presidential nominee despite his support for abortion rights, a coalition of influential Christian conservatives is threatening to back a third-party candidate in an attempt to stop him.The group making the threat, which came together Saturday in Salt Lake City during a break-away gathering during a meeting of the secretive Council for National Policy, includes Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who is perhaps the most influential of the group, as well as Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, the direct mail pioneer Richard Viguerie and dozens of other politically-oriented conservative Christians, participants said. Almost everyone present expressed support for a written resolution that “if the Republican Party nominates a pro-abortion candidate we will consider running a third party candidate.”
The participants spoke on condition of anonymity because the both the Council for National Policy and the smaller meeting were secret, but they said members of the intend to publicize its resolution. These participants said the group chose the qualified term “consider” because they have not yet identified an alternative third party candidate, but the group was largely united in its plans to bolt the party if Mr. Giuliani became the candidate.

Margaret Sanger of the Blogosphere

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

This from LaShawn Barber and her self described “radical” views on abortion. I would not call them radical, makes sense to me, she just chooses to get off the fence when most Americans sit on the issue.

abortion9a.jpgNo ExceptionsYou could call my views on child killing radical.

Even in cases of rape and incest, I do not believe the unborn baby should be killed. Is that clear enough? I’ll make it clearer. Even if a man rapes his 13-year-old daughter and impregnates her, the baby should live. He should not be “terminated” because of how and under whatever circumstances he was conceived. I see no justification, no matter how tragic the events, for killing the innocent, unborn baby.

It’s all black and white for me, no shades of gray. If you call yourself pro-life but make an “exception” in cases of rape and incest, you’re not pro-life. Dig?

I can see the e-mail now: “A child giving birth to her father’s child? You’re sick!”

Yes, I am sick. Sick of child killing, the self-centeredness, the disposable mentality, the lack of faith…

Margaret Sanger of the Blogosphere

Blogger Dawn Eden invoked the “feminist” Planned Parenthood founder and eugenicist in a post titled, “Margaret Sanger is alive and well and living in the blogosphere.” She linked to a blogger calling herself Radical Mother Mama  The blogger replaced the post with a Sylvia Plath poem. Had a feeling that would happen. Here’s a copy of the original post. who’s trying to convince a 15-year-old girl from a poor family to kill her baby. Dawn writes:

Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger had a simple solution to poverty: kill unborn poor children. Her spirit lives in blogger Radical Mama who, in a post called “Breaking the sanger2.jpgCycle,” boasts of her ongoing attempts to convince a 15-year-old girl to abort against her mother’s wishes.

Radical Mama knows the girl, Julia, through the 4-H group to which the teen belonged. “I am trying to think about this [pregnancy] objectively, but I just can’t,” the blogger writes. “This is one of my kids. Isn’t this why I volunteer? To prevent this sh– from happening?”

Inquisitive NH Voter Reacts To Giuliani Remark

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

.giuliani.gif

(WBZ) BOSTON - Link  - Giving the little people a chance to face off with “big people” is what makes the New Hampshire primary famous.Rudy Giuliani is the latest candidate to get caught off guard by a cut-to-the-chase question from a voter.I spoke with the Derry, New Hampshire woman who brought him up short, and she’s feeling the heat for her question.

Katherine Prudhomme-O’Brien says she was just curious about the apparent lack of support for their father’s candidacy by Giuliani’s son and daughter from a previous marriage, but that query and Giuliani’s dismissive reply have been the buzz of the political world all weekend.

“I asked him how he’d expect the American people to give him loyal fellowship if he was having a hard time getting it from his own family.”

Giuliani’s response: “There are complexities in every family in America. The best thing I can say is kind of leave my family alone, just like I’ll leave your family alone.”

Keller: What did you think of his answer?

Katherine: I thought it was a little defensive. I guess he’s still not ready to talk about the whole thing because it’s very uncomfortable for him.

Read the rest but let me give my two cents as to why Rudy is full of shit and this individuals question is relevant and should be addressed.

Years ago as a community activist I was involved in all sorts of issues from school funding and desegregation, to city budgets, infrastructure, traffic, neighborhood revitalization to business development.

One of my main issues at the time was juvenile incarceration and funding programs to help keep juveniles out of jail, from partnerships with the Y and Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Boys and Girls clubs.

I was an outspoken advocate of making parents accountable for their children and taking a more proactive role in their lives.
In addition, I was very much in favor of increasing the budget for the expansion of the county jail something most black folks was dead set against.

I was asked by a prominent (deep pockets) dude to run against a current congressman, but I had no desire to go to D.C. I did however eye the county commission seat.
At the time I could have run for damm near anything and against anybody and won, but there was one big problem, the damage I was doing to my own family.
All of the community accolades and awards, board seats and news exposure all was happening while, my son’s life in particular was spinning out of control.
>Bottom line I had to remove myself from any political consideration because it would have been hypocritical for me to run for public office when it was costing me far more, my relationship with my kids and wife, not to mention that my son had been arrested for some minor drug offenses and theft. That was on me.

Imagine the involved activist solving community problems, bemoaning family and social ills and fighting for change all the while at home not taking care of business at home, hugely hypocritical.

“Ok Snoop what does this have to do with Rudy”, well from everything I heard about Rudy is that he is a selfish and egotistical bastard and a huge prima donna.
He is seen as this “great” leader, still from the 9/11 crap, when I still say to people just what the fuck did he do? But I digress….
I met some of Rudy’s campaign staff at a conference a few months ago, and they too are assholes, dude is surrounded by egotistical fucks like him.
He is not, from all accounts a “good guy.” His kids’ dislike of him is an important barometer and something for voters to consider whether he likes it or not.

I don’t know about Rudy, but my kids support and acceptance of me would be important.
It’s clear that his kids not only don’t get along with dude, but they simply don’t like him as a person.

How could he look a person in the eye and say “I will work for families and children”, you know, the typical bullshit campaign rhetoric when his family is so jacked up.
Instead of attacking a potential voter on his family life maybe he should try to better address the issue, because like it or not, it is relevant.

Ya know I made some mistakes, well shit loads of them, but I know today that if I were to run for any public office I would have my kids support and even the support of my former wife.
I’m a flawed dude but a decent guy and of course I have grown up, well kinda…

I’m not a big Romney fan, well mostly because he is a Mormon, sorry folks I can’t get past the Mormon racist thing, but I admire his families’ loyalty and how all of they are working on their dads’ campaign.

Being a good dad today is important and I think an important quality for voters to consider when choosing someone to be president.
Character matters, and if your own family doesn’t acknowledge that you have any, how can we as voters ignore that.

Giuliani’s daughter shifts on 2008 pick

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007
rudy3.jpgWASHINGTON (link) - The daughter of Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani signaled she was supporting Democrat Barack Obama, then backed off when faced with questions. On her Facebook profile, 17-year-old Caroline Giuliani listed herself as a member of Obama’s Facebook group, “Barack Obama (One Million Strong for Barack).” She left the group Monday morning after the online magazine Slate sent an inquiry and later in the day, a spokeswoman said she did not intend to comment on the 2008 race.

“Before the presidential campaign got under way, Caroline added herself to a list on Facebook as an expression of interest in certain principles,” said the spokeswoman, Joannie Danielides. “It was not intended as an indication of support in a presidential campaign, and she has removed it.”

Her profile can be viewed by Facebook users who have access to New York City’s Trinity School or Harvard University networks. Caroline, who is Giuliani’s daughter with his second wife, Donna Hanover, recently graduated from Trinity and will attend Harvard in the fall.

Slate posted a screen shot of her profile, which uses a slightly different last name. She lists herself as having liberal political views.

Giuliani, campaigning in Iowa, declined to comment on his daughter’s political preference.

“My daughter I love very much,” he told reporters outside an Italian restaurant in Clear Lake. “I have great respect for her, and I’m really proud of her, and I don’t comment on children, because I want to give them the maximum degree of privacy.

“The best thing to do, if you want to ask the press to leave the children alone, the best way to do it is not to comment on them one way or the other, except to say you’re very proud of them, and you love them very much, which I do,” he said.

The Obama campaign did not have any comment.

Firefighters Rip Giuliani, Call Him ‘Urban Legend’

Thursday, July 12th, 2007
rudy.gif(CBS) NEW YORK The International Association of Firefighters has gone on the offensive against “America’s Mayor” Rudy Giuliani, releasing a 13-minute video that viciously rips into the former New York mayor, who has been using his leadership demonstrated on September 11th to urge people around the country to support him in his quest to become President of the United States.

The video, released early Wednesday evening, is titled “Rudy Giuliani: Urban Legend,” and offers testimonials from various members of the organization and family members of firefighters lost in the terror attacks.

“We have the remains of dead heroes at the garbage dump because of Giuliani and his administration and they’re still there today and they won’t remove them,” claims FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches on the DVD, which was released to CBS 2 HD before its public debut.

Giuliani’s campaign denounced the video, saying that the former mayor had a long history of supporting firefighters’ health and safety and that the international union releasing the video only supports Democratic presidential candidates.

Nobody and I mean NOBODY has ever been able to explain just what the hell Rudy did during 911 that was so damm “heroic.”

Meanwhile he is an expert on terrorism because his city was chosen as a “target.” Plez.

Rudy’s Twelve Commitments

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

rudy.gif

During a speech in Bedford, New Hampshire Rudy Giuliani unveiled something he calls “The Twelve Commitments” which, not surprisingly, is a list of 12 things Rudy says he is committed to doing as president.

Reading crap like this puts me in a pissy mood, because obviously political candidates continue to think the majority of voters are morons.

Shit I guess we should just clip out this list and take it to the voting booth.

My rant below is not specifically about Rudy, but politicians in general, just feel like venting.

1. I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.

Hmmm no problem, but let us read more.

2. I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation. BULLSHIT.

We can’t get the current congress to do one simple thing when it comes to illegal immigration, BUILD A DAMM WALL. We are not enforcing existing laws, bottom line there is no way anyone’s going to “end illegal immigration” in this country, let alone “identify every non-citizen in our nation. So my question for Rudy is what the hell are you talking about?

3. I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending. BULLSHIT

Any presidential candidate that promises that is a fucken liar. The members of Congress are masters at hiding political pork in every bill they touch as long as we have these corrupt bastards in congress there isn’t a damm thing Rudy or any other so-called candidate can do about “wasteful spending”

4. I will cut taxes and reform the tax code. HMMM

Sounds good on the surface, but until serious flat tax legislation or serious talk about tax code reform is forwarded this is a pipe dream. The IRS needs to be blown up, but that ain’t happening too many jobs are tied to people being screwed by the IRS.

5. I will impose accountability on Washington. BULLSHIT

Sounds like a fucken micromanager, you are running for president not king idiot!

I’m just thinking (and that is hard for me, LOL!) Who wrote this drivel to for this dude? How does a president do that exactly?

6. I will lead America towards energy independence. BULLSHIT

The environmental lobby is one of the biggest obstacles in obtaining this so-called goal of “energy independence” Huge oil reserves are on our own soil and in case some of you have forgot, we have not even build a refinery plant in the U.S. since 1976! Why, because of environmentalist.
Alternative energy resources are squashed because of big money corrupting sources, something a president can’t do a damm thing about.
We have scams like “global warming” leading to scams like carbon offsets that further screw this process up.

7. I will give Americans more control over, and access to, healthcare with affordable and portable free-market solutions. BULLSHIT

8. I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children. BULLSHIT, A PRESIDENT CAN’T DO THAT.

What is dude going to do, go visit Tiller the Baby Killer himself and hold a gun to his head to stop him from performing abortions?
Or is he going to pay visits to skanks across that nation and shame them into not having abortions? Who is he kidding.

9. I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges. BULLSHIT, CODEWORD.

This is just to make anti-abortion folks more receptive to him, Rudy is a Margaret Sanger fan. He is not fooling anybody.

10. I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters. BULLSHIT, A PRESIDENT CAN’T DO THAT.

The Federal government is broke and can’t take care of meeting the needs of law enforcement resources around the nation now, how could he possible do that?

11. I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents. BULLSHIT, A PRESIDENT CAN’T DO THAT

The most powerful political lobbyists are the teachers unions and school choice is not on their agenda.

12. I will expand America’s involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world. SCARY.

No doubt that Rudy would back that stupid Mexico superhighway and free trade project that RHINO’s are trying to back door around Americans, Plez!

Rudy Giuliani tied to ’superhighways’

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

nafta.jpg

Questions are being raised over Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani’s policy on terrorism, after a report revealed he has strong ties to two foreign investment consortia working to own or lease U.S. toll roads, including the Trans-Texas Corridor 35, which is identified as part of the I-35 “NAFTA Superhighway.”

Although he opposed NAFTA in 1993, Giuliani recently declined to call for building a fence on the United States border with Mexico, and he has supported a guest-worker program.

Columnist Michelle Malkin also has documented that while mayor of New York City, Giuliani kept the municipality a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, adhering to a policy first established by Mayor Ed Koch in 1989.

Now comes a new report about Giuliani’s involvement with public-private-partnership projects that include NAFTA Superhighway funding and his open borders record on immigration questions, all of which could undermine his otherwise tough policy on terrorism that has resulted from the 9/11 role Giuliani played in managing New York City’s response to the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Start Hedging The Views . . .

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007
rudy.gifJeez, what the hell am I doing here? Can’t say I wasn’t warned — former mayor of New York, a moderate Republican, pro-choice, married more than once, okay, more than twice. They said I was never going to get the Republican presidential nomination, but Judy said don’t listen to them. ‘Listen to me, honey, when I see you, I see president, chief executive, commander in chief. Pucker up, Mr. President, and put it right here.’ Got to admit it’s fun. Uh-oh, here comes another abortion question. Here I go.

“I think abortion ought to be illegal and legal, depending on the choice of the people involved and the state they live in. I would appoint judges who are strict constructionists to make sure all of that would happen. These were exactly my thoughts on 9/11 when I met the challenge and prevailed.”

Giuliani warns of ‘new 9/11′ if Dems win

But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.

Reversal: Rudy and Romney on Terri

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007
rudy3.jpgBy Ryan Sager - NY Sun - Link

Here’s a bit of a surprising story from LifeNews.com. Apparently, on a campaign swing through Florida, Rudy Giuliani said he supported the efforts of the Florida legislature and governor (that would be one Jeb Bush) to keep Terri Schiavo on life support.

“I thought it was appropriate to make every effort to give her a chance to stay alive,” LifeNews.com quotes him as saying at the campaign stop.

Mitt Romney, meanwhile, said last month that he disagreed with the state’s actions. “I think it’s probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts,” Mr. Romney said.

Of course, this is something of a reversal of the normal order of things. It is usually the formerly pro-choice Mr. Romney pandering aggressively to pro-life groups. Mr. Giuliani, on the other hand, has been pursuing a take-me-or-leave me approach, which has so far included reaffirming his longstanding support for taxpayer-funded abortion.

Now, there are certainly distinctions between abortion and the Schiavo incident — one’s position on one hardly dictates one’s position on the other. But this seems like an odd position for the former mayor to take.

It’s also a bad move if it’s pure pandering. It’s not going to gain him an inch with pro-lifers. At the same time, the Schiavo intervention marked a low point for the Bush administration, and was tremendously unpopular with swing voters and libertarian types.

Giuliani’s Abortion Problems Continue

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007
sanger2.jpgRudy Giuliani’s campaign is fighting to defend the mayor on abortion today at National Review, but the opposition is coming from the editors of NR themselves. After Giuliani said last week that abortion is a constitutional right and as such must be publicly funded, NR’s editors said his position “makes neither logical, moral, nor political sense.” In response today, Giuilani adviser Bill Simon responded in a letter that first cited Univ. of Alabama professor Michael New’s claim that abortions in NYC under Giuilani declined at a rate greater than the national average at the time. Simon goes on to reiterate Giuliani’s opposition to changing the Hyde Amendment which prohibits federal funding of abortions (except in cases of incest, rape or danger to the mother’s life). Finally, Simon pledges that Giuilani would appoint “strict-constructionist judges who will follow in the philosophical footsteps of Justices Thomas, Alito, and Scalia, and Chief Justice Roberts” if elected president.

The editors had a stinging comeback:

Like Bill Simon, we admire Professor New. Let’s quote him some more on abortion trends during Giuliani’s mayoral terms: “I cannot attribute this decline to any actual policy Giuliani implemented.” Note also that New York City’s abortion rate had a long way to fall: Even after its decline, it remained much higher than the national average. Should Mayor Giuliani get credit for that fact as well?

Rudy…… Abortion…..

Friday, April 6th, 2007
Mayor Giuliani has tied himself in knots. His position makes neither logical, moral, nor political sense. Many conservatives are disappointed, and hope that their disappointment is not going to grow as the campaign wears on.

Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions

Thursday, April 5th, 2007
rudy.jpgTALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.”Ultimately, it’s a constitutional right, and therefore if it’s a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected,” Giuliani said in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash in Florida’s capital city.

Read the rest but why bother, hey Rudy stop the charade and just flip political parties.
No true conservative would even jokingly entertain the notion that we should have taxpayer sponsored baby killing.

Wow, I see your poll numbers shrinking as I type this….

“lay off my wife”

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007
judith.jpg

(CBS) NEW YORK Several candidates for president are on a fast pace for fundraising. Democrat Hillary Clinton has set a record and Republican Rudy Giuliani isn’t far behind. But it’s what Giuliani said Monday that will likely steal the headlines.

The former New York City mayor is fending off increased media scrutiny of his third wife — the former Judith Nathan. Rudy is now asking the media to back off.

“Attack me all you want,” Giuliani said. “There’s plenty to attack me about. Please do it. But maybe, you know, show a little decency.”

That’s a tough sell for a man who suggested he might invite his wife into cabinet meetings.

As for the fundraising race — we’re still waiting on figures from Sen. John McCain — but this is looking like a new era in money politics. A total of four candidates — Sen. Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama, Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney have broken the old record for this point in a presidential campaign.

The New Yorkers in the 2008 presidential race apparently know where the money is. Both Rudy and Hillary are raking in big bucks although Hillary is clearly in the lead money-wise.

New York’s junior senator pulled in $26 million in her first quarter of fundraising, nearly tripling the previous record set by Al Gore in 1999.

Giuliani said Monday he knows what he’s up against. One of his Republican rivals — Romney has shaken up the GOP field by reporting a Hillary-like war chest of $23 million. Rudy on the other hand has raised $15 million, but insists he has the GOP momentum.

“We raised almost all of it in March and what that says if we can keep doing March that way we’ll have over $100 million,” Giuliani said.

Clinton was in New Jersey Monday to pick up the endorsement of Gov. Jon Corzine.

“I’m running for president because I want to get back to setting goals for our country,” Clinton said during her first campaign appearance in the Garden State.

Hillary has one eye on Democratic rival Obama, who is thought to be close on her fundraising heels.

Testimony by Giuliani Indicates He Was Briefed on Kerik in ’00

Friday, March 30th, 2007
rudy3.jpgRudolph W. Giuliani told a grand jury that his former chief investigator remembered having briefed him on some aspects of Bernard B. Kerik’s relationship with a company suspected of ties to organized crime before Mr. Kerik’s appointment as New York City police commissioner, according to court records.

Mr. Giuliani, testifying last year under oath before a Bronx grand jury investigating Mr. Kerik, said he had no memory of the briefing, but he did not dispute that it had taken place, according to a transcript of his testimony.

Mr. Giuliani’s testimony amounts to a significantly new version of what information was probably before him in the summer of 2000 as he was debating Mr. Kerik’s appointment as the city’s top law enforcement officer. Mr. Giuliani had previously said that he had never been told of Mr. Kerik’s entanglement with the company before promoting him to the police job or later supporting his failed bid to be the nation’s homeland security secretary.

“Rudy and I have both been married three times,” Oooooo shameful!

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

rudywives.jpg

Rudy Giuliani’s wife, Judith, made a shocking revelation yesterday that stunned even those close to the White House hopeful - he isn’t her second husband, but her third.

“Something I will share with you is that, since I haven’t done [many] interviews . . . Rudy and I have both been married three times,” Judith told The Post.

It was the first time she has publicly disclosed the bombshell information.

Several longtime Giuliani supporters said they had thought he was her second husband, and profiles about Judith Giuliani - who has revealed little about herself publicly before - have always referred to her as twice-married.

“We both married young,” she told The Post yesterday in an interview. “And then we were both married again. And it took us until this stage in life to realize and find the person that we eventually wanted to grow old with.”

She continued, “And so hopefully, by the time you’re 52 years old . . . you have figured out how important marriage is to you if you chose to get married again.”

Rudy Giuliani, 62, learned about his wife’s first husband early in their relationship, she and her aides said.

The revelation comes at a time when the former mayor’s political opponents are attempting to make an issue of his marital history, especially among social conservatives.

Read more if you care I just don’t understand why this is a “bombshell.”

Rudy Causes Confusion in GOP

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007
rudy3.jpgOne of the early — and quite amazing — sidelights of the race for the Republican nomination for President in ’08 is how so many prominent conservatives are lining up behind Rudy Giuliani, who has perhaps the slimmest conservative credentials of any of the major GOP hopefuls.

The Republican Party has had a strong pro-life plank in its national platform since 1980, but the former New York mayor still characterizes himself as “pro-choice” and has never reversed his oft-stated 1990s opposition to a ban on partial-birth abortion.  When I questioned him during the recent California Republican convention about his support of gun control while mayor and his Bush-like support of a guest-worker program for illegal immigrants, Giuliani again declined to change his past, non-conservative stances.  He did, though, refuse to use the term “guest-worker program,” instead describing his position as favoring “immigration, assimilation and Americanization.”

While never actually endorsing gay marriage, Republican Giuliani broke with the President and most GOP members of Congress by opposing a constitutional definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.  During his stint as mayor from 1993-2001, Giuliani actively courted the gay community by appointing gays to various city offices and marching in gay-pride parades. “How could we not be for Rudy?” is how James Vaughn, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, responded when I asked him who his group would support in ’08.

Many New York Republicans still bitterly recall how Giuliani, while New York’s first elected Republican mayor in nearly 30 years, endorsed Democratic Gov. Mario Cuomo in Cuomo’s losing bid for re-election in 1994.
