Why Don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses Vote? Guess… LOL!
Thursday, August 14th, 2008
This is an old article that I somehow missed, mostly because I don’t usually troll leftist Negro websites. I’m not going to even get into my opinion of Jehovah’s Witnesses folks in general but lets just say that after some very opinionated conversations I had with them early on. Soon after that I managed to keep them away from any house I ever lived in. I must have been on some “stay the fuck away” list.
Quick story; I got pissed one day when they were on patrol in my hood and they usually travel in pairs, two white folks and two black folks. Well the white pair started up the walkway but when I opened the door the white pair backed off and the black pair stepped up.
I said “what the fuck, y’all prejudice or something” seriously.
They were caught off guard so both pairs stepped up to the door and explained to me that “many time people are uncomfortable speaking to others who are not like them.”
Needless to say to you Poop readers I went fucken off.
Now on this story well I guess ignorance is a blessing to some. People still have this retarded notion that if they DON’T participate in the electoral process that they are neutral. WRONG…. because not voting is as much a statement, like it or not you are indeed effecting the process and thereby making a statement.
You can throw all of the religious bullshit you want on it, but the fact remains you are effecting the outcome.
I’ve never understood this logic. You will purchase property, pay taxes, send your kids to public schools, drive on public roads, worship in a building or participate in a religion recognized by the gubment thus are allowed tax breaks and participate in all of the activities and functions of a civil society and yet you would say “I’m an ambassador for God, so I shall stay neutral.” Plez.. y’all must share some of that mean green y’all are smoking!
Now I have no numbers on the amount of people who fall into this “me religious, me no vote” category but hey some of these people may be doing us a favor by being a “participating neutral.” They are more likely to be Democrats anyway, LOL!
Just kidding….well maybe not.
Serena Williams told reporters at Wimbledon on Wednesday that she’s excited about Barack Obama’s candidacy but won’t vote for him because Jehovah’s Witnesses “don’t get involved in politics.” Her sister Venus—who is also a Jehovah’s Witness—wouldn’t even comment on the presidential election. Why don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses vote?
Because of John 17:14 and other passages in the Bible. In that verse, Jesus says of his followers: “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” Jehovah’s Witnesses have interpreted that statement as a call to remain neutral in all political matters. (In some of the sect’s literature, members are described as “representatives of God’s heavenly kingdom”; they are thus obligated to stay out of local political affairs in keeping with the behavior of ambassadors.) Witnesses also refrain from serving in the military, running for public office, and pledging allegiance to the flag.
Voting is not expressly prohibited, but it is discouraged. The Watchtower, the official publication of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, ran an article in 1999 suggesting that the decision whether to vote was one of personal conscience, although it carefully laid out reasons for staying out of the voting booth.
LOL!
