Bill Sammon reports that President Bush is quietly advising top Democratic presidential contenders in an effort to help them preserve the credibility that would be required to continue to prosecute the war in Iraq. The President recognizes that there’s a difference between being a candidate, and then winning the office — and having to make the tough decisions that come with it. As a result, he’s reaching out to ensure that there will be continuity (and hopefully, some sanity) even under a Democratic president.
It will be interesting to see how forcefully Clinton, Obama et al repudiate this story — because, of course, they will be required to by the nutty netroots that have increasingly come to dominate the party. Too bad, too — to the extent that either of them are willing actually to listen to the President, it would be heartening sign that they understand that the war is an American security matter, not a partisan one.

I remember going to the rally in D.C. back in March and there was this sign-up table where anybody who walked up to the table could construct their own sign. There was also an assortment of manufactured signs to choose from.
I remember a group of homeless folks gathered around this liberal chick as she barked instructions to these folks telling them where to hold the signs and instructing them to make sure they were in full view of the TV cameras.
Now these homeless folks were promised free hot dogs and fresh baked bread so they would have carried signs saying “Kill Bush” if it would have meant free food.
Anywho, when I see the moonbats patrolling the grounds with anti-American, Hugo Chavez loving, socialist pimping signs I oft wonder if free tasty dogs were behind the slogans.
The first part of my day I stewed about the Democrats role in 9/11. Just kidding,
I became pissed that Bill Clinton allowed Osama Bin Ladin to blow up the World Trade Center thereby depriving me of a second chance to take beautiful pictures of Mrs. Snoop with the backdrop of the World Trade Center towers. (That’s right, is is all about me.)
A photographer by trade, somewhat, I took advantage of the incredible surroundings and two architectural treasures to take some cool pictures of Mrs. Snoop with towers one and two behind her.
I took pictures from virtually every angle. I love my Mrs. Snoop but I wanted to make sure the Towers were prominently displayed in each shot.
Before the trip I purchased a couple of these disposable cameras so I was not nearly as guarded when we boarded trains headed to Saratoga Springs for an attorney’s conference Mrs. Snoop was attending.
As we departed the trains, I was surprised by the tranquil surroundings and small town feel. I felt immediately comfortable.
When we arrive at our hotel room I realize that I don’t have the cameras, I search frantically but to no avail. I realize that more than 100 pictures on Mrs. Snoop (well not quite all of them) were on the train in a bag, with various snacks. FUCK!
So what did I do the morning the WTC towers fell, reminisce of a wonderful trip to the NYC with Mrs. Snoop.

All I can think of was happier times with a backdrop of America that I took for granted.

Shit, I remember how massive those building were and even I thought to myself, “damn we is good” referring to the feeling you get when you process how awesome this country is. Yes there are buildings taller, more modern, more awe-inspiring but virtually no building represented the strength of this nation as WTC Towers 1 and 2.

An e-mail sent out about helping low-performing students at Ozen High School caused some confusion Monday.Assistant Principal Elvena Colbert sent out an e-mail stating that all black male students were to sit on the front row in classrooms.Principal James Broussard later sent out an e-mail urging staff to disregard the one distributed by Colbert.
Broussard’s e-mail explained that the intent was to identify students who received low Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills scores.
Then, teachers would have those students sit toward the front of the class or change the seating chart so they could be more easily engaged in classroom discussions, said Willis Mackey, Beaumont assistant superintendent.
He said teachers have tried to brainstorm ways to help student succeed.
“People want to beat (students) down and talk down at them,” he said. “We need to have the ones who are not successful and put them on the front row. Kids who are not excelling need special attention. … Why are we letting kids sit on the back row and fall asleep or look out the window?”
He said it is not a black and white issue but one about economically disadvantaged students.

An NAACP leader said Michael Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL, preferably the Atlanta Falcons, after serving his sentence for his role in a dogfighting operation.
“As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football,” said R.L. White, president of the group’s Atlanta chapter. “We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.”
White said the Falcons quarterback made a mistake and should be allowed to prove he has learned from that mistake.

On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.

The civil rights organization said animal rights groups, talk radio and the news media were vilifying the embattled athlete, and that his team and corporate sponsors were prematurely punishing Vick.
White said the Atlanta chapter supports Vick’s decision to accept a plea bargain if it’s in his best interest, but he questioned the credibility of Vick’s co-defendants, saying an admission of guilt might be more about cutting losses than the truth.
“At this point, you’re not looking at guilt or innocence,” White said, referring to the possible harsher sentence Vick could have received had he taken his case to trial and been found guilty. “You’re thinking, ‘What I better do is cut my losses and take a plea.’ But if he saw this as the best thing to do at this point for his future, then I think he made the correct choice.”
White said he regretted that the plea deal will mean all the facts of the case might never be known.
“Some have said things to save their own necks,” White said. “Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he had killed a human being.”
White said he does not support dogfighting and that he considers it as bad as hunting.

News audiences are ditching television and newspapers and using the Internet as their main source of information, in a trend that could eventually see the demise of local papers, according to a new study Wednesday.
“As online use has increased, the audiences of older media have declined,” Harvard University professor Thomas Patterson said in a report on the year-long study issued by Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy.”In the past year alone… newspaper circulation has fallen by three percent, broadcast news has lost a million viewers,” said the study, entitled “Creative Destruction: An Exploratory Look and News on the Internet.”
Meanwhile, the numbers of people using the Internet as a news source have increased — exponentially, in some cases.
The story notes that traffic to websites that post news produced by a third source, which includes sites like Google News, Yahoo News — and, of course, blogs like this — increased across the board between April 2006 and the same month in 2007. In fact, sites like Google News and Yahoo News get 100 million visitors a month. The websites of the major television network (ahem…the MSM)? A mere 7 million a month. Sites like The New York Times and Washington Post? About 8 million a month. Worse news for “medium-sized” newspapers, like … um… well, a paper I once worked for in Southern California:
But newspapers in medium-sized to small cities saw either a drop in or no change to the numbers of visitors to their websites, which have already taken readers from hard-copy editions.
The authors of the study predict that many small newspapers could have difficulty holding on to even their web audience, and counsel that they include “national and international news in the mix.”
I don’t think even that will save such publications. Stated simply, medium and small newspaper sites are wholly irrelevant in their current constitution. Yeah. If some blockhead in a small town does something super interesting to get into the international police blotter, that makes news. But not on the local site — but only after Drudge gets it from the wire services, not the local paper.
The slow death of newspapers has been undersold. In 10 years, they’ll be glorified PennySavers and crossword books.

The number of truck bombs and other large al-Qaeda-style attacks in Iraq have declined nearly 50% since the United States started increasing troop levels in Iraq about six months ago, according to the U.S. military command in Iraq.The high-profile attacks — generally large bombs hitting markets, mosques or other “soft” targets that produce mass casualties — have dropped to about 70 in July from a high during the past year of about 130 in March, according to the Multi-National Force — Iraq.
Military officers say the decline reflects progress in damaging al-Qaeda’s networks in Iraq. The military has launched offensives around Baghdad aimed at al-Qaeda sanctuaries and bases.
“The enemy had the initiative and the momentum in ‘06,” said Jack Keane, a retired general who is a chief architect of the increase in troop levels and mentor to Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq. “We’ve got it now.”

Three years ago things looked bleak for the Democratic Party. George Bush had just won a second term while his party consolidated its grip on Congress. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay crowed about a “permanent Republican majority,” and Beltway Democrats acquiesced as Republicans built their unchallenged (and lawless) unitary executive.
Democrats appeared to be on the run, disorganized and demoralized. But outside of Washington there was hope. Grass-roots Democratic activists had seen the future of our politics in Howard Dean — plain-spoken and unapologetic. His presidential candidacy had come up short, but its fresh, optimistic approach — predicated on offering clear contrasts between the two parties — was poised to redefine the party.
Dean was elected chairman of the Democratic Party despite predictions of electoral doom by the usual suspects in Washington, including the Democratic Leadership Council. In the House, Democrats chose Nancy Pelosi to lead them over current DLC Chairman Harold Ford, who warned of disaster if Pelosi won. Calling her a “throwback” who practiced a “destructive and obstructive” style of politics, Ford proclaimed, “I don’t think Nancy Pelosi’s kind of politics is what’s needed right now.” Today, Nancy Pelosi is the first female speaker of the House.
Ford, like his fellow Washington insiders, grossly misunderstood the American electorate. He and Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley continue to do so [” Our Chance to Capture the Center,” op-ed, Aug. 7]. Convinced that this is fundamentally a conservative nation, Ford demanded that Democrats unceasingly inch toward the right or risk electoral irrelevance. As then-DLC official Ed Kilgore put it in 2005, “If we put a gun to everybody’s head in the country and make them pick sides, we’re not likely to win.” But we who live outside the D.C. bubble — in all 50 states, in counties blue and red — were hearing voices at odds with the Washington consensus. People wanted real choices at the ballot box. And given the disastrous rule of the Bush administration, they wanted a Democratic Party that stood tall and pushed back like a true opposition.
The new leadership responded. A concerted grass- and Net-roots effort, bridging online activists and the labor movement, forced Democratic officials to reject any “compromise” with right-wing interests seeking to gut Social Security. Democratic poll numbers rose in the wake of this victory as Bush’s fell. Standing strong for a core Democratic program was not only good for our country, it was smart politics.

Fontova discussed with Cybercast News Service his new book and what he describes as the real Guevara - the man who directly helped Castro put into place a communist regime responsible for at least 102,000 deaths and which has cycled 500,000 people through its gulag.

Splitting Hairs, Edwards’s Stylist Tells His Side of Story

For four decades, Joseph Torrenueva has cut the hair of Hollywood celebrities, from Marlon Brando to Bob Barker, so when a friend told him in 2003 that a presidential candidate needed grooming advice, he agreed to help.
The Beverly Hills hairstylist, a Democrat, said he hit it off with then-Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina at a meeting in Los Angeles that brought several fashion experts together to advise the candidate on his appearance. Since then, Torrenueva has cut Edwards’s hair at least 16 times.At first, the haircuts were free. But because Torrenueva often had to fly somewhere on the campaign trail to meet his client, he began charging $300 to $500 for each cut, plus the cost of airfare and hotels when he had to travel outside California.
Torrenueva said one haircut during the 2004 presidential race cost $1,250 because he traveled to Atlanta and lost two days of work.
“He has nice hair,” the stylist said of Edwards in an interview. “I try to make the man handsome, strong, more mature and these are the things, as an expert, that’s what we do.”
The Edwards camp should just pack it in. When a candidate’s hairstyle is the biggest attention getter you know your campaign is doomed.
I was shocked to find that the Washington Post would even do this article; I thought it was a joke.
The Edwards campaign clearly went into clown mode when Liz Edwards had to play bully protector to her husband because he was too chicken shit to take on Coulter himself in a shameless fund raising ploy. Another hair story I guess to explain themselves, but why?
