The Edwards ‘08 Campaign for President has quietly refunded almost $4 million to individual contributors, a number of them, bundlers and big backers. This should be news to Warren Buffet who recently mused that Edwards’ supporters should get together and file a class action suit. It seems another “class” has already had their contributions refunded–and it’s not the “grassroots” little guys.

We had no idea the campaign was handing out refunds until we happened to come across the information while perusing the site OpenSecrets.org and the data supplied to the Federal Election Commission by the Edwards’ campaign.

We were baffled, how did the Edwards’ campaign manage to refund that much money, almost $4 million, and no one notice? We hadn’t seen any mention of the refunds elsewhere, not on the web, not in the MSM, and not on the Edwards’ campaign website.

We found it interesting, at a time when Warren Buffet on CNBC This Morning (courtesy Mickey Kaus at Slate) mused whether Edwards’ contributors should file a class-action suit to get their money back, there’s a whole other “class” of individuals who’ve received their refund. And what an interesting “class” we found:

Out of 667 “bundlers” or designated fundraisers, 276 or 40%, had received a refund of their individual contributions. Not only did the individual bundlers get their money back but in some cases so did their family members.

WASHINGTON - Joe Biden has always been one of those people who can talk themselves out of trouble. He may at last have found the predicament that’s too tough for that.

In high school, the future senator and presidential candidate used a quick tongue to compensate for not doing homework. An old classmate at Archmere Academy, David Walsh, told the Arizona Republic this spring it was Biden’s “God-given gift.“

At the University of Delaware, he was a mediocre student - 506 out of 688 in the class of 1965. He was “trying to be the complete Joe College,“ wrote a history professor, ranking Biden average in “intellectual achievement“ but high in “command of English language.“ The professor nonetheless recommended the former football and baseball jock for admission to law school “on grounds of personality and general promise.“

But Biden soon ran into trouble at Syracuse Law. He was accused of plagiarism after lifting five pages from a law review article for a course paper. But his pleading - “I implore you, don’t take my honor“ - convinced the dean to let him stay in school, take the course over, and wipe the slate clean.

Another law dean later told a prospective employer that Biden, who finished 76th in a class of 85, had been an academic “disappointment.“ But the dean said Biden’s “confidence,“ “general physical appearance“ and “general speaking ability“ would help make him a natural trial lawyer.

These gifts ultimately would propel Biden to the U.S. Senate and into the 1988 presidential race. He turned to them again last week when plagiarism allegations threatened his campaign.

But this time, the more he talked the worse it got.

Buried in the 94-page document is a noble-sounding proposal to create a “Social Investment Fund Network.” The program would provide federal money to “social entrepreneurs and leading nonprofit organizations [that] are assisting schools, lifting families out of poverty, filling health care gaps, and inspiring others to lead change in their own communities.” The Democrat Party promises to “support these results-oriented innovators” by creating an office to “coordinate government and nonprofit efforts” and then showering “a series of grants” on the chosen groups “to replicate these programs nationwide.”

In practice, this Barack Obama brainchild would serve as a permanent, taxpayer-backed pipeline to Democrat partisan outfits masquerading as public-interest do-gooders. This George Soros Slush Fund would be political payback in spades. Obama owes much of his Chicago political success to financial support from radical, left-wing billionaire and leading “social entrepreneur” Soros. In June 2004, Soros threw a big fund-raiser at his New York home for Obama’s Illinois Senate campaign. Soros and family personally chipped in $60,000. In April 2007, Obama was back in New York for a deep-pocketed Manhattan fund-raising soiree, with Soros lurking in his shadow.

John Edwards specifically wanted his interview to be on Nightline so he could delay the media blitz (And protect Obama, he is in Hawaii to avoid the media blitz, good timing!) and now Elizabeth “I have cancer, feel sorry for me” Edwards posts this bullshit apology on the ultra left Daily Kos, classic liberalism good move cater to your lunatic left fans first because they are the only ones dumb enough to give your idiot asses money and buy any propaganda shit you fraud fucks will say.
Liz knows only the loony left would be sympathetic to her situation and since she is going to stand by her man this simply political cover for the Edwards.
She is as much a fake and a fraud as her husband and if the Breck Girl’s words are true and he told her back in 2006 about the affair but she still went to campaign for this idiot fuck and scammed millions of idiot liberals out of their money she is just as much a crook fraud as her husband. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards is pulling the plug on a scholarship program he started at an Eastern North Carolina high school — a program he once promised would be a model for the nation under an Edwards presidency.
Edwards’ presidential hopes have evaporated. And he recently informed Greene County officials that he would end the pilot program at Greene Central High School.

Just taking the Edwards current statements at their words, I am left with a very uncomfortable truth — both John and Elizabeth Edwards cynically used their marriage as a means to help John Edwards win an election. Right now, they are hoping that the emotional goodwill that they built up from their supporters will carry them through.

I’m sure I’ll get some angry comments here but if you’re an Edwards supporter, let me put this bluntly; if you gave John and Elizabeth Edwards time, money, support, or goodwill, they played you.

They made a conscious decision to make their relationship a focus throughout the campaign. That emotional goodwill you feel for them? They not only let you feel, they took actions and made statements specifically so you would feel it.

More Photos In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.  WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

The walk had been planned by the President’s media advisers as part of an overall attempt to reshape the President’s image as Commander in Chief, a mantle that had never rested comfortably on his shoulders. The event, staged as carefully as a small movie, was duly noted in the White House press schedule of the day: “6:15 C.E.T. President Clinton visits Omaha Beach with the American veterans of that beach. Note: no remarks are planned during this walk.”

The President and the three men who had fought on the beach walked slowly along, talking in hushed tones among themselves, as a dozen or so photographers and television cameramen walked backward in front of them, recording the scene. After a few minutes, White House aides pulled the veterans off to one side, so that the President could continue his beach walk in Kennedy-esque solitude. At a certain point, where some beach stones had been gathered into a small pile to form a marker, the President stopped, and the photographers took up their positions so that he was nicely framed by the hulks of the old warships in the sea behind him.

The President stood for a moment, staring silently out to sea. Then he knelt down, his knees not quite touching the ground, in a pose that suggested worship. He reached for the pile of stones in front of him and slowly began rearranging them into the shape of a cross. A journalist who was there watching the scene recalls “getting that sick feeling you get sometimes with him, thinking ‘Oh God, please don’t do this.’ “

As the cameras clicked and rolled, the President bowed his head as if to pray. Later, White House aides said the moment of silence had been planned, but that the cross of stones had been entirely the President’s own idea.

His campaign staff placed the rocks there ahead of time, there are no damm rocks on the beach!

(CNSNews.com) - Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) dismissed Democratic claims of obstructionism and expressed outrage last week over a government report that shows the majority of bills that have passed in the Democrat-controlled Senate of the 110th Congress have done so without any debate or even a vote.

“The U.S. Senate has a nine percent approval rating, because the American people believe that much of our work is done in secret with no debate, no transparency and no accountability,” Coburn told reporters at press conference Wednesday at the Capitol.

“This report shows that the reality is worse than the public’s fears. Instead of encouraging open debate, I’m disappointed that Majority Leader Reid often chooses secrecy or demagoguery,” he added.

Coburn was referring to a non-partisan study released on June 10 by the government’s Congressional Research Service (CRS), which indicates that 855 of the 911 bills passed by the Senate of the 110th Congress have been streamlined by Democratic Party leadership with a procedural tactic known as Unanimous Consent (UC), which requires no debate or even a vote.

With the Senate’s traditional August recess about to start, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has repeatedly accused Republicans, however, and especially Coburn and DeMint, of blocking UC on legislation that he says is critical to the well-being of many Americans.

Coburn and DeMint have a reputation for reading and objecting to bills that would have otherwise passed without debate or objection, Bryan Darling, director of Senate relations for the conservative Heritage Foundation, told CNSNews.com.

It’s the top story in Pennsylvania. Twelve Democrat state leaders facing corruption charges in a massive scandal dubbed “Bonusgate.” If it were twelve Republican state leaders, I guarantee you would have heard all about it by now. Via the Philly Daily News:

A SORDID TANGLE of corruption, cash and sex rocked the Statehouse yesterday in a political scandal that left one current and one former legislator and 10 current and former staff members facing criminal charges.
Among the accusations leveled by two state grand juries: Former top legislative staffer Mike Manzo got his lover, a twenty-something former rural beauty queen, a $29,000 job and $7,000 bonus mostly for doing her schoolwork.

State Attorney General Tom Corbett announced the charges against the 12, all Democrats, in a news conference in Harrisburg.

“It’s a very sad day in Pennsylvania,” Corbett said.

The long-running investigation began with a Harrisburg Patriot-News story about secret bonuses to legislative employees. The 12 are accused of using public funds to finance political activities, a vacation, meals for friends and Manzo’s no-show job for his girlfriend.

OAKLAND, Calif. (Link)  – California is making it mandatory for cars to be labeled with global warming scores, figures that take into account emissions from vehicle use and fuel production.

The law requiring the labels goes into effect at the start of next year for all 2009 model cars, though its expected the labels will be popping up on cars in the coming months.

The labeling law forces cars for sale to display a global warming score, on a scale of one to 10, which is based on how vehicles in the same model year compare to one another. The higher the score, the cleaner a car is. The score takes into account emissions related to production of fuel for each vehicle as well as the direct emissions from vehicles.

The score will be displayed next to the already-required smog score, which also rates cars one to 10 for how many smog-forming emissions they emit. For both scores, an average vehicle will have a score of five.

California is the first state of pass such as law, and a similar law will take effect in New York for 2010 model year vehicles. Global warming scores will be included on the state’s DriveClean website.

While this law is intended to help consumers take into account emissions while purchasing cars, a proposed law in the European Union would require E.U. public sector bodies put a price on emissions.

A law endorsed by the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety would make governments put a monetary cost on the emissions of vehicles they plan to purchase, and add that to expense calculations. The law would exclude certain types of vehicles, such as ambulances and fire trucks.

(CNSNews.com) - As Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) apparently moves toward the political middle, he has offended one of the more influential liberal voices in the new media.

Markos Moulitsas, founder of the highly popular Daily Kos blog, denounced Obama for voting for the domestic surveillance legislation that provides limited immunity to telecommunication companies and for criticizing the left-wing activist group MoveOn.org.

“There is a line between ‘moving to the center’ and stabbing your allies in the back out of fear of being criticized. And, of late, he’s been doing a lot of unnecessary stabbing, betraying his claims of being a new kind of politician,” Moulitsas wrote on his site. “Not that I ever bought it, but Obama is now clearly not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base to prove centrist bona fides.”

The critique from the Daily Kos founder is significant in that the blog has become the bible of the left in recent years, has sponsored events where Democratic presidential candidates speak, and played a potentially significant role in Obama’s nomination as the blog was decidedly against New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and centrist Democratic policies.

After former President Bill Clinton’s two terms, it appeared the centrist Democratic Leadership Council had gained greater influence in the party. That was until the grassroots effort led largely by Daily Kos and MoveOn.org led to the reemergence of the party’s left wing.

The nation was outraged this week when Justice Kennedy sided with the liberal members of the United States Supreme Court to decide Kennedy vs. Louisiana. So outraged, even Barack Obama took the public’s side on this case.

Obama said

I disagree with the decision. I have said narrow circumstances for the most egregious of crimes. The rape of a small child, 6 or 8 years old, is a heinous crime and if a state makes a decision that under narrow, limited, well-defined circumstances that the death penalty can be pursued, that that does not violate the Constitution.

But let us put some perspective on how Obama’s rhetoric matches up with his actual legislative history.

In 1999, Barack Obama was the only member of the Illinois State Senate to vote against a bill that prohibited convicted criminal sex abusers from getting early release. The amendment to the “County Jail Good Behavior Allowance Act” provided that a person in a county jail may not receive a good behavior allowance if he is convicted of criminal sexual assault against a minor who is also a family member or if the criminal were to be convicted of criminal sexual abuse or aggravated sexual abuse.

The legislation, S.B. 485 (IL 1999), passed 54-1.

Sewage backs up into kitchen sinks. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale – a score so bad the buildings now face demolition.

Grove Parc has become a symbol for some in Chicago of the broader failures of giving public subsidies to private companies to build and manage affordable housing – an approach strongly backed by Obama as the best replacement for public housing.

The campaign did not respond to questions about whether Obama was aware of the problems with buildings in his district during his time as a state senator, nor did it comment on the roles played by people connected to the senator.

Among those tied to Obama politically, personally, or professionally are:

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama’s presidential campaign and a member of his finance committee. Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which managed Grove Parc Plaza from 2001 until this winter and co-managed an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems.

Allison Davis, a major fund-raiser for Obama’s US Senate campaign and a former lead partner at Obama’s former law firm. Davis, a developer, was involved in the creation of Grove Parc and has used government subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,500 units in Chicago, including a North Side building cited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments.

Antoin “Tony” Rezko, perhaps the most important fund-raiser for Obama’s early political campaigns and a friend who helped the Obamas buy a home in 2005. Rezko’s company used subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,000 apartments, mostly in and around Obama’s district, then refused to manage the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitable.

Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers – including Jarrett, Davis, and Rezko – collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obama’s campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obama’s own accounting.

If you’re going to promise “new politics,” it would probably be wise to eschew the same old Beltway cronies and insiders who have served past presidential nominees of yore.

And if you’re going to attack political opponents for playing “textbook Washington games,” it would probably be best not to play them yourself. If you do, you’ll end up tongue-tied in front of the cameras, hung by your own holier-than-thou rhetoric, and faced once again with the decision to throw another bad choice under the bus.

Yes, Barack Obama, we’re talking about you. Again. It’s getting mighty crowded under that bus, isn’t it?

Last week, D’Oh-bama announced the appointment of D.C. denizens Jim Johnson and Eric Holder to head his veep search committee–along with a Kennedy (Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg) thrown in for glamorous good measure. John McCain supporters rightly jumped on Johnson and Holder as shady Washington operators. Holder was the Clinton Justice Department official in the middle of the sleazy pardon for fugitive financier Marc Rich.

Johnson, who has advised past failed Democrat nominees Walter Mondale and John Kerry, was CEO of the beleaguered, government-backed mortgage giant, Fannie Mae. Over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported that Johnson accepted more than $7 million in below-market-rate loans from scandal-plagued subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. The company’s CEO, Angelo Mozilo, had set up a very special loan program for his high-powered pals. Johnson had named Mozilo to Fannie Mae’s national advisory committee more than a decade ago and they maintained a cozy friendship.

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller today asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, how he could “rail against Countrywide Financial Corp as an example of insiders and today’s economy while your VP search is headed by someone who got questionable loans from Countrywide?” (This is an issue we wrote about earlier today.)

“And in addition,” Miller continued, “another person on that same VP search team – Eric Holder — has also been involved in the Marc Rich scandal.”

“Well, look,” Obama said, “the, the, I mean - first of all I am not vetting my VP search committee for their mortgages, so you’re gong to have to direct — “

“But shouldn’t you?” asked Miller.

“Well, no,” Obama said. “It becomes sort of a, um, I mean, this is a game that can be played - everybody, you know, who is tangentially related to our campaign, I think, is going to have a whole host of relationships — I would have to hire the vetter to vet the vetters. I mean, at some point, you know, we just asked people to do their assignments.

“Jim Johnson has a very discrete task,” Obama continued, “as does Eric Holder, and that is simply to gather up information about potential vice presidential candidates. They are performing that job well, it’s a volunteer, unpaid position. And they are giving me information and I will then exercise judgment in terms of who I want to select as a vice presidential candidate.

“So this – you know, these aren’t folks who are working for me,” Obama said. “They’re not people you know who I have assigned to a job in a future administration and, you know, ultimately my assumption is that, you know, this is a discreet task that they’re going to performing for me over the next two months.”

Did I read that correctly? Did Obama claim that Johnson and Holder — two of the three people heading up his VP search committee — aren’t “work”ing for him?

I suppose that’s because they’re unpaid, but my stars, that’s a lot of high-level, time-consuming sensitive effort to not be considered “working” for Sen. Obama.

Y’all have to check out the video. I know this is slightly unfair but the more this man speaks without the aid on notes or a teleprompter (yes, I’m beating a slightly dead horse) dude simply comes across a dolt. It would be painful to watch if I were not already vastly under whelmed by his perceived intellect.

I’ll freely admit that I butcher the kings English often here on my little vent site. My mind processes at a far greater clip that I am able to translate to typed words and being a shitty typist does not help. However when you read descriptions about Obama even the back handed comment made by Joe Biden last year about dude being the first “clean and articulate” Negro presidential candidate I still trying to understand why people think this dude is so fucken smart.

Dude is a deceitful shit and when he does not have a clear answer his speech is laced with tons and tons of ums and stuttering.
Again I thought dude was considered to be the smartest Negro on the planet!? WTF!?
