You know what I have to say about Barack Obama calling the Tennessee GOP “low-class” and “unacceptable” on Good Morning America because of its ad answering Michelle Obama’s lack of pride in her country?Barack, sweetie, your conversation with ABC News’s Robin Roberts insisting that your wife’s public remarks on the campaign trail be exempt from public criticism doesn’t help my children.

The proud Obamas claim they want to talk about the “issues,” rather than “distractions.” But when the candidate puts his bitter half on stage and his chief public surrogate, what comes out of her mouth is an issue.

Michelle Obama was asked about the ad on “GMA,” but her husband said, “Let me just interject on this.”“The GOP, should I be the nominee, I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,” Obama said. “I’ve been in public life for 20 years. I expect them to pore through everything that I’ve said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That’s what they do.”

“But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable,” he said.

We know how his wife and his pastor feel about America. It’s finally dawned on Barack Obama that they have been undermining his glow of HopeNChange. The Baltimore Sun notes an interesting moment at a press conference he gave yesterday:

Barack Obama avoided questions on the teachings of his long-time pastor in a press conference here, promising to address racially tinged comments made by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in a speech on race in America Obama plans to deliver Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Obama on Friday denounced as “inflammatory and appalling” comments Wright made that were circulated on video clips. Among them, Wright said blacks should sing “God damn American” instead of “God bless America.” Obama said he was not present when Wright made those comments.

But reporters at the press conference sought to probe Obama on his understanding of Wright’s views about white America and why he chose to raise his children at Trinty United Church of Christ, where Wright was pastor until recently.

Obama has had a long and close relationship with Wright, crediting the pastor with leading him to embrace Christianity and taking the title for his book “The Audacity of Hope” from one of Wright’s sermons. Obama was married by Wright and his children were baptized by Wright.

At a rally shortly before his press conference today, Obama uncharacteristically ended his remarks with the phrase “God bless America.”

Who Started the “Hussein” Business?   [Andy McCarthy] (Link)

I didn’t know this until I read Bret Stephens’ WSJ column yesterday.  Who said the following?

“Well, I think if you’ve got a guy named Barack Hussein Obama, that’s a pretty good contrast to George W. Bush.”

Answer:  Barack Hussein Obama. 

Bret recounts:

Sometime before Barack Obama’s middle name slipped into the realm of the unmentionable, it was supposed to be a selling point of his candidacy. “Well, I think if you’ve got a guy named Barack Hussein Obama, that’s a pretty good contrast to George W. Bush,” Mr. Obama told PBS’s Tavis Smiley on October 18, 2007. “If you believe that we’ve got to heal America and we’ve got to repair our standing in the world, then I think my supporters believe that I am the messenger who can deliver that message.”

In Cincinnati, Bill Cunningham, according to the Los Angeles Times, introducing presidential candidate John McCain at a rally Tuesday, “ridiculed Democratic contender Barack Obama for his intention to meet with ‘world leaders who want to kill us’ and pointedly referred to the Illinois senator as ‘Barack Hussein Obama.’” John McCain repudiated Cunningham’s low tactics and said that using the middle name like that three times was “inappropriate” and would never happen again at one of his rallies.I want to say something about Barack Hussein Obama’s name. It is a name to be proud of. It is an American name. It is a blessed name. It is a heroic name, as heroic and American in its own way as the name of Gen. Omar Nelson Bradley or the name of Benjamin Franklin. And denigrating that name is a form of racial and religious bigotry of the most vile and debased sort. It is a prejudice against names deriving from Semitic languages!

Christian, Western heroes have often been bequeathed Middle Eastern names. Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, the medieval Spanish hero, carried the name El Cid, from the Arabic al-Sayyid, “the Lord.”

Barack and Hussein are Semitic words. Americans have been named with Semitic names since the founding of the republic. Fourteen of our 43 presidents have had Semitic names (see below). And American English contains many Arabic-derived words that we use every day and without which we would be much impoverished. America is a world civilization with a world heritage, something Cunningham will never understand.
