Like most people in Mingo County, West Virginia, Leonard Simpson is a lifelong Democrat. But given a choice between Barack Obama and John McCain in November, the 67-year-old retired coalminer would vote Republican.“I heard that Obama is a Muslim and his wife’s an atheist,” said Mr Simpson, drawing on a cigarette outside the fire station in Williamson, a coalmining town of 3,400 people surrounded by lush wooded hillsides.Mr Simpson’s remarks help explain why Mr Obama is trailing Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival, by 40 percentage points ahead of Tuesday’s primary election in the heavily white and rural state, according to recent opinion polls.
A landslide victory for Mrs Clinton in West Virginia will do little to improve her fading hopes of winning the Democratic nomination, because Mr Obama has an almost insurmountable lead in the overall race.
But Tuesday’s contest is likely to reinforce Mrs Clinton’s argument that she would be the stronger opponent for Mr McCain in November, and raise fresh doubts about whether the US is ready to elect its first black president.
Occupying a swathe of the Appalachian Mountains on the threshold between the Bible Belt and the Rust Belt, West Virginia is a swing state that voted twice for George W. Bush but backed Democrats in six of the eight prior presidential elections.
No Democrat has been elected to the White House without carrying West Virginia since 1916, yet Mr Obama appears to have little chance of winning there in November. Recent opinion polls indicate that Mrs Clinton would narrowly beat Mr McCain in the state but Mr Obama would lose by nearly 20 percentage points.
West Virginia is hostile territory for Mr Obama because it has few of the African-Americans and affluent, college-educated whites who provide his strongest support. The state has the lowest college graduation rate in the US, the second lowest median household income, and one of the highest proportions of white residents, at 96 per cent.
A visit to Mingo County, a Democratic stronghold in the heart of the Appalachian coalfields, reveals the scale of Mr Obama’s challenge – not only in West Virginia but in white, working-class communities across the US. With a gun shop on its main street and churches dotted throughout the town, Williamson is the kind of community evoked by Mr Obama’s controversial comments last month about “bitter” small-town voters who “cling to guns or religion”.
“If he is the nominee, the Democrats have no chance of winning West Virginia,” said Missy Endicott, a 40- year-old school administrator. “He doesn’t understand ordinary Americans.”

By Kathy Kiely and Jill Lawrence - LINKHillary Rodham Clinton vowed Wednesday to continue her quest for the Democratic nomination, arguing she would be the stronger nominee because she appeals to a wider coalition of voters — including whites who have not supported Barack Obama in recent contests.
“I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,” she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article “that found how Sen. Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me.”
“There’s a pattern emerging here,” she said.
Clinton’s blunt remarks about race came a day after primaries in Indiana and North Carolina dealt symbolic and mathematical blows to her White House ambitions. The Obama campaign, looking toward locking up the nomination, stepped up pressure on superdelegates who have the decisive votes in their race.
In both states, Clinton won six of 10 white voters, according to surveys of people as they left polling places.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton said that in Indiana, Obama split working-class voters with Clinton and won a higher percentage of white voters than in Ohio in March. He said Obama will be the strongest nominee because he appeals “to Americans from every background and all walks of life. These statements from Sen. Clinton are not true and frankly disappointing.”
Clinton rejected any idea that her emphasis on white voters could be interpreted as racially divisive. “These are the people you have to win if you’re a Democrat in sufficient numbers to actually win the election. Everybody knows that.”
Larry Sabato, head of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said Clinton’s comment was a “poorly worded” variation on the way analysts have been “slicing and dicing the vote in racial terms.”
However, he said her primary support doesn’t prove she’s more electable. Either Democrat will get “the vast majority” of the other’s primary election votes in a general election, he said.
Clinton lost North Carolina by 15 percentage points and won Indiana by 2 points after competing full-out in both states. She had loaned the campaign $6.4 million in the past month. She said she might lend more.
“We should finish the contests we have and see where we stand after they’re over,” she said, referring to the six remaining primaries that will end June 3.
There were signs of unrest Wednesday, even among Clinton allies. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein wondered to The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, “whether she can get the delegates that she needs.” Former South Dakota senator George McGovern, whose 1972 presidential bid gave Clinton her first political experience, switched his support from Clinton to Obama.

“Do you know how difficult it is for women to stand up and say we are the best at anything? The Democratic Party has to know that women are the core, women have to be at the table and women are going to be heard as we continue in these contests until they finally end.”– Hillary Rodham Clinton

Shoreham Hotel in Washington. The women gave her “a thunderous and extended standing ovation.” And why not? She is the women’s candidate. She represents us. She is opening doors for us. In the short span of her historic presidential campaign, Hillary Rodham Clinton has taken a lifetime of venomous misogyny and she has taken it for all of us. If she has not reawakened the long dormant feminist movement, no one can. If she wins, we win. If she loses, we lose:
“I’ve been counted out more than once. But thanks to all of you I’ve come back. When I was counted out in New Hampshire, it was the women of New Hampshire who came back and said, ‘No, she’s not finished yet.’ When I was counted out before Super Tuesday it was women from California to Massachusetts who
came and said ‘No, we’re not finished yet.’ When I was counted out before Ohio, before Indiana, we have always come back.” And it’s not so much about my comeback it is about our comeback.

NBC Promotes Misogyny by Selling ‘Hillary Nutcrackers’ in Airport Shops
Sphere: Related ContentAs pretty well the whole world knows now, NBC is a corporation bursting at the seams with misogyny. So are you surprised to discover that NBC’s quest to promote sexism is on display in the nation’s airports?Apparently, CNBC stores — like this one at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC. — are where you need to go to purchase sexist jokes like “Hillary Nutcrackers.” Is there an adult sign on this store? Because I seriously doubt that parents relish the thought of explaining the “Hillary Nutcracker” to their daughters and sons.
Can racists find their toys at NBC stores too? Is NBC an equal opportunity hater?

Another Hillary blogger cries on Blue Hampshire :
I just got back from a vacation, and I had a layover in Washington, DC. Across from where I sat lay the CNBC store, proudly sporting that NBC peacock we’ve come to know so well. . . I wandered over to grab a newspaper or a magazine, and this is what I found in the center of the store, facing outward from the cash register. Did you get it? Did you get the joke? Because strong women hate penises. Strong women want to “bust men’s balls” because let’s face it, they’re envious of our balls. They are all, you know, menopausal and uptight. And we dudes, we’re just hanging out, when they come around cracking our nuts…

Sphere: Related ContentDemocrats seem intent on nominating Barack Obama, in the face of mounting evidence that Hillary Clinton would be the stronger candidate against John McCain in November. And they only have themselves to blame.Yes, the Clinton camp made strategic blunders that allowed Obama to score heavily in Republican states where few Democrats vote. But the real culprit is the party’s stupid, self-destructive nominating system, which has two major flaws.
First, it was designed to anoint a nominee by early February, far too early in the process. The result: Obama built up an insurmountable lead at a time when he was still largely unblemished, untested and unscrutinized. The past six weeks have brought tougher media coverage, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s tapes, the candidate’s ill-considered comments about “bitter” voters and a wave of second thoughts among key groups like union members and white Catholics.
Second, the nominating system was completely incapable of reflecting these shifts. Not only were few states remaining on the calendar, the rules of proportional representation made it almost impossible for Clinton to catch up.
Since Feb. 19, seven states have voted. Clinton has won four — Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island –building up a popular-vote margin of 483,000. Yet her total gain in delegates was exactly five. In Texas, she won by more than 100,000 votes, but because of that state’s ridiculous rules, she actually came out five delegates behind.
How can that outcome possibly be fair? How can it possibly benefit the party?
Wait, it gets worse. Obama built up sizable margins in small states that Clinton was foolish enough to concede. His delegate advantage in Idaho, Kansas and Louisiana — three states that will never vote Democratic — was a total of 38. By contrast, Clinton handily won three large swing states — Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio. And yet, because of party rules, her combined marginal gain amounted to 28 delegates.
How can it make sense for Idaho, Kansas and Louisiana to have a bigger impact on choosing the Democratic nominee than Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio? Add in the exclusion of Florida and Michigan, two crucial states that favor Clinton, and there’s only one word for the Democrats’ system: crazy. And Republicans are gleeful.Three months ago, they were convinced that Clinton was the easier candidate to beat, and she’s hardly an ideal choice, not when more than half of all voters tell ABC pollsters they don’t like or trust her. But many GOP insiders now see her as a tougher, more tenacious rival, and the latest polls support that judgment.
The Associated Press-Ipsos survey gives Clinton a 50 percent to 41 percent edge over McCain, while Obama ties his Republican rival. As GOP pollster Steve Lombardo told the AP: “This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now — that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can’t seem to get his footing back.”
One of those strategists, Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma, added that Obama “is by any definition very liberal, to the left of Hillary Clinton, in a center-right country. That is very, very helpful to us.” Already Republican candidates in North Carolina and Louisiana are running ads linking Democrats to Obama and his “very liberal” policies. And that’s only the first trickle in a tidal wave to come.
Obama can make some strong counterarguments. While Clinton might be the better candidate in traditional swing battlegrounds, he can “expand the map” by bringing in new voters, mainly young people and blacks, and making the Democrats competitive in red states like Colorado and Virginia.
The election map, however, has been starkly static during the Bush years, with only three small states switching sides between 2000 and 2004. Winning Ohio with Clinton is a safer bet for Democrats than capturing Colorado and Virginia with Obama.
So why don’t Democratic leaders and superdelegates face these facts and shift to Clinton? One reason is race. It’s true, as Obama says, that being black in America has hardly been a political asset, given the fact that he’s the only African-American in the U.S. Senate.
But at this time, in this party, being black is an enormous asset. Given America’s long, torturous path toward racial justice, many Democrats simply cannot imagine denying the nomination to the first serious African-American candidate for president.
From a moral perspective, that’s a noble judgment. From a political perspective, it could cost Democrats the White House.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Fallout from President Clinton’s controversial pardons of 16 members of a Puerto Rican nationalist group last summer prompted Republicans Tuesday to introduce a measure to reform the pardon process and require input from victims and their families.
At a Capitol Hill news conference, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Vito Fossella (R-New York) announced the introduction of a measure requiring the Office of Pardon Attorney in the Justice Department to notify victims or their families of key events in the clemency process and allowing them to voice their views. It would also require law enforcement agencies to provide information on the potential impact from a grant of clemency.
President Clinton was widely criticized after he granted clemency to the FALN members over the objections of law enforcement officials, and after the Justice Department consulted representatives of the FALN prisoners, but not the victims.
Hatch and Fossella were flanked by the widow of one victim and the son of a second victim killed in the 1975 FALN bombing of a New York restaurant.
Justice Department officials say the proposed measure is unconstitutional because it would restrict powers granted exclusively to the president.
The sponsors insist the changes would not interfere with the chief executive’s decision making.
“The president will still be able to disregard the Pardon Attorney’s reports, use another agency, ask anyone in the world for advice, or exercise the ‘pardon power’ without anyone’s counsel, Hatch said.
Hatch said he expects the Justice Department to oppose the measure, but hopes to gain support from Democratic lawmakers.
Fossella rejected the notion the legislation is being introduced to embarrass Hillary Clinton’s bid for a Senate seat from New York.
“As far as Mrs. Clinton is concerned, this has nothing to do in my opinion with her candidacy for the Senate. This has everything to do with the privilege and power vested with the president of the United States that will long survive this campaign for the Senate,” Fossella said.
Joseph Connor, son of Frank Connor who died in the New York bombing, said he hopes something good finally comes from his father’s death.
“We’re hoping that we have made a difference here, and I believe we have through this bill. And maybe it can be a part of his legacy,” Connor said.
Diana Berger Ettenson whose husband was killed in the blast said she too hoped the measure would gain bipartisan support.
“I would urge people on both sides of the aisle to come together to do the right thing, and I would also urge future candidates for the office of president to think very carefully regarding this awesome power that is placed in their hands. This power of clemency is like no other power,” she said.

Between 1974 and 1985 the FALN (Puerto Rican Armed Forces of National Liberation) organized 120 terrorist bombings in the United States. Many Americans were killed in those bombings, and many more were crippled. In 1983, another Puerto Rican terrorist group known as the Macheteros, attacked and robbed a Wells Fargo armored car in Connecticut. The Macheteros intended to use the money to finance a terrorist campaign against the United States. Working under the cover of Puerto Rican nationalism and claiming to act on behalf of the “oppressed people of Puerto Rico,” the FALN and the Macheteros are nothing but Communist revolutionaries. Both groups were organized by Fidel Castro’s secret police. The ultimate goal of the FALN and the Macheteros is the creation of an independent Marxist-Leninist dictatorship on the island of Puerto Rico.
While Timothy McVeigh awaits execution and has no chance of receiving a pardon for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing, President Clinton has seen fit to pardon 11 FALN terrorists and five Macheteros who have been serving prison sentences in the United States. Some people are wondering why Clinton did this. It was not a popular move. What pressing political reason did Clinton have for releasing 16 Communist terrorists and revolutionaries from jail?
I’m bored so I’m still cataloging some more Hillary Clinton stuff.
I’ll be very honest, after watching her interview with Bill O’Reilly the other day all it did was piss me off to no end. I lost all respect for O’Reilly because I don’t think he took the interview seriously and spent most of his time flirting with her like a little bitch.
I’ve been reading a lot of Hillary stuff in the last few days I have been reading multiple sources of materials on her mainly to refresh my memory on the specifics of her background.
Although I knew about most of her baggage it strikes you just how fucked up and manipulative she is and I am convinced that no “reasonable” individual that is familiar with her total history of lies and distortion can support her.
Unless a specific newspaper writer, TV political pundit, political crony or prominent political blogger has a specific stake personally and or financially to her obtaining the presidency they can’t possible look someone in the eye and honestly say that they believe Hillary Clinton should be president and do so in good conscious.
Anyone who knows Hillary’s history and would still say to anyone that she has the moral character to lead this nation is either a bold face liar or has major moral judgment issues.
The vast majority of politicians lie through their teeth on a daily basis, but Hillary with the guidance of Bill has made political deception into an art form.

Hillary Clinton Fired For Lies, Unethical Behavior: The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.
“…When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career. Why? “Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”
Senator Clinton’s Latest Judgement Call - Hire Sandy Berger. He who stole highly classified terrorism documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and lied to investigators, is now an adviser to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. This is raising eyebrows even among Clinton’s admirers. “It shows poor judgment and a lack of regard for Berger’s serious misdeeds,” said Jonathan Alder.
… On several occasions, Berger stuffed highly classified documents into his pants and socks before spiriting them out of the Archives building in Washington, according to investigators. On one occasion, upon reaching the street, he hid documents under a construction trailer after checking the windows of the Archives and Justice Department buildings to make sure he was not being watched. Berger came back later and retrieved the documents, taking them home and cutting them up with scissors. Two days later, he was informed by Archive employees that his removal of documents had been detected…
Hillary Caught Lying About Ohio Hospital Denying Healthcare: (New York Times) Over the last five weeks, Hillary Clinton has featured in her speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee. Turns out, she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured. Also, as reported by ABC News “The hospital, which was never named in Clinton’s speeches, objected this weekend, saying it wasn’t true and demanded that Clinton stop telling it.”

The statement — which author Benjamin Barber witnessed and wrote about in his book, “The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House” — was prompted by another speaker raising the difficulties of reaching “Reagan Democrats.” It stands in stark contrast to the attitude the New York Democrat has recently taken on the campaign trail, in which she has presented herself as the one candidate who understands the working-class needs.
“I don’t think [Obama] really gets it that people are looking for a president who stands up for you and not looks down on you,” she said this week.

Cattle Futures & Conflicts of Interest
In 1979, Hillary Clinton’s trades in cattle futures contracts generated criticism regarding conflict of interest and allegations of disguised bribery. Her initial $1,000 investment generated $100,000 when she stopped trading ten months later. Furthermore, in his book Devil Take The Hindmost : A History Of Financial Speculation, Edward Chancellor noted that Clinton made her money by betting “on the short side at a time when cattle prices doubled.” Marshall Magazine, a publication of the Marshall School of Business, found that “Two-thirds of her trades showed a profit by the end of the day she made them and 80 percent were ultimately profitable.” According to the Washington Post, “[w]hile Clinton’s account was wildly successful to an outsider, it was small compared to what others were making in the cattle futures market in the 1978-79 period.” However, the Post’s comparison was of absolute profits, not necessarily percentage rate of return.
Chicago Mercantile Exchange records indicated that $40,000 of her profits came from larger trades initiated by Clinton’s lawyer and friend, James Blair, an experienced futures trader and outside counsel to Tyson Foods. According to exchange records, Robert L. “Red” Bone, the commodities broker that facilitated the trades on behalf of Ray E. Friedman and Co. (Refco), reportedly because Blair was a good client, allowed Clinton to maintain her positions even though she did not have enough money in her account to cover her activity. For example, she was allowed to order 10 cattle futures contracts, normally a $12,000 investment, in her first commodity trade in 1978 although she had only $1,000 in her account at the time. Refco was fined for violating Chicago Mercantile Exchange rules governing margin trading. Leo Melamed, a former chairman of the Mercantile Exchange who reviewed the records for the White House, said in an interview that Clinton violated no rules in the course of her transactions.

The New York Times, which endorsed Hillary Clinton, criticized her in a blistering edit published online tonight for running a nasty PA campaign. The piece was, not surprisingly, circulated by Barack Obama’s campaign.
NYT: The Pennsylvania campaign, which produced yet another inconclusive result on Tuesday, was even meaner, more vacuous, more desperate, and more filled with pandering than the mean, vacuous, desperate, pander-filled contests that preceded it.Voters are getting tired of it; it is demeaning the political process; and it does not work. It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election.
If nothing else, self interest should push her in that direction. Mrs. Clinton did not get the big win in Pennsylvania that she needed to challenge the calculus of the Democratic race. It is true that Senator Barack Obama outspent her 2-to-1. But Mrs. Clinton and her advisers should mainly blame themselves, because, as the political operatives say, they went heavily negative and ended up squandering a good part of what was once a 20-point lead.
On the eve of this crucial primary, Mrs. Clinton became the first Democratic candidate to wave the bloody shirt of 9/11. A Clinton television ad — torn right from Karl Rove’s playbook — evoked the 1929 stock market crash, Pearl Harbor, the Cuban missile crisis, the cold war and the 9/11 attacks, complete with video of Osama bin Laden. “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” the narrator intoned.

Sphere: Related ContentHillary Clinton refuses to die. Having been given up for dead after losing Iowa, she rebounded in New Hampshire. Then a string of 11 straight consecutive losses - followed by a win in Ohio and a tie (in delegates) in Texas. Now, she’s won Pennsylvania.Problem is, it doesn’t mean anything.
Because of the Democratic Party’s arcane proportional-representation rules, her win stands to give her a net gain of 10 to 15 delegates when all is counted. That means that Barack Obama will fall from a lead of 161 in elected delegates to about 145 or so. Big deal.
The primaries coming up in the next two weeks - Indiana and North Carolina - are likely to give Obama back a goodly portion of those delegates. By the time all the primaries have been held, after June 3, there is no doubt that Obama will lead by more than 100 elected delegates, and likely 150. From there, it will be an easy route to the nomination.
The Democratic superdelegates aren’t about to risk a massive and sanguinary civil war by taking the nomination away from the candidate who won more elected delegates. If they ever tried it, we’d see a repeat of the demonstrations that smashed the 1968 Chicago convention and ruined Hubert Humphrey’s chances of victory.

Because she knows that the beer drinking, gun toting, racist hillbillies in Pennsylvania would just LOVE to nuke them some Sand Niggers!

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, the New York Democrat apparently is positioning herself to the right of some Republicans, vowing that if Iran attacks Israel with nuclear weapons, she would respond in kind against Tehran, with the ability to “totally obliterate them.”Clinton’s remarks came during an interview airing tomorrow morning on the ABC News show, “Good Morning America.”
ABC’s Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons, according to the network.
“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president we will attack Iran,” Clinton said. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”
