New York rapper Nas has joined a protest against FOX News.

Citing what he calls “race baiting” and “Obama smears” by FOX, Nas will join ColorOfChange.org and MoveOn.org to deliver more than 620,000 petition signatures demanding that the network end its “pattern of racist attacks against black Americans,” among them presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

In a statement to media, Nas, ColorOfChange.org and MoveOn.org announced the petition will be delivered to FOX’s Manhattan offices on July 23 at 2 p.m. ET.

In joining the protest, Nas cites FOX’s portrayal of the Obamas as outsiders, as well as an on-screen graphic referring to Michelle Obama as “Obama’s baby mama” and the confusing of Obama and Osama by a pundit, who joked that they should both be assassinated. In February, Bill O’Reilly talked about a “lynching party” to deal with Michelle Obama.

“FOX poisons the country with racist propaganda and tries to call it news,” Nas said in the statement.

A Canadian woman who describes herself as a white nationalist lost custody of her children after sending her daughter to school twice with a swastika drawn on her arm, the CBC reported.

TALLAHASSEE — A black Republican group has put up billboards around Florida — including Pinellas and Hillsborough counties — and in South Carolina saying the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican.

Black leaders say the claim is ridiculous.

The National Black Republican Association’s billboards show the civil rights leader and the words “Martin Luther King Jr. was REPUBLICAN.”

Told of the billboards, the Rev. Joseph Lowery let out a soft chuckle that grew stronger as he began to think more about the idea.

“These guys never give up, do they?” said Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with King. “Lord have mercy.”

Seven billboards have gone up in six Florida counties and another in Orangeburg, S.C., said Frances Rice, the group’s chairwoman. Part of the group’s mission is to highlight what she said is the Democratic Party’s racist past.

“I knew the King family well. We were all Republicans,” said Rice, 64. “There was no way Dr. King would have wanted to be in the party of the Ku Klux Klan.”

The King Center in Atlanta says there is no proof that King was ever a Republican. Rice stands by her claim. She said she was asked by the King Center to take down the billboards, but she refused. “I said, ‘If you want us to stop, sue us.’ But they don’t want to come into court because they know they’ll have to tell the truth,” Rice said.

Rice said the group plans more radio ads in the areas where the billboards are as well as a mail campaign, and T-shirts and buttons with the message.

In Tampa, Clarissa Robinson, sat in her car directly under the billboard and looked up at it.

“Why’d they put that up there?” said Robinson, 22, who is black and a Democrat. “So nobody (will) vote for (Democrat Barack) Obama. They’re trying to make us vote for the other guy.”

Lowery, who knew King well, said there is no reason why anyone would think King was a Republican. He said King most certainly voted for President John Kennedy, and the only time he openly talked about politics was when he criticized Republican Barry Goldwater during the 1964 presidential campaign.

“It’s purely propaganda and poppycock,” Lowery said. “Even if he was, he would have nothing to do with what the Republican Party stands for today. Do they think Martin would support George W. Bush and the war in Iraq?”

In The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr., published after his death from his written material and records, King called the Republican national convention that nominated Goldwater a “frenzied wedding … of the KKK and the radical right.”

The Republican Party of Florida refused to discuss the billboards.

OAKLAND, Calif. (Link)  – California is making it mandatory for cars to be labeled with global warming scores, figures that take into account emissions from vehicle use and fuel production.

The law requiring the labels goes into effect at the start of next year for all 2009 model cars, though its expected the labels will be popping up on cars in the coming months.

The labeling law forces cars for sale to display a global warming score, on a scale of one to 10, which is based on how vehicles in the same model year compare to one another. The higher the score, the cleaner a car is. The score takes into account emissions related to production of fuel for each vehicle as well as the direct emissions from vehicles.

The score will be displayed next to the already-required smog score, which also rates cars one to 10 for how many smog-forming emissions they emit. For both scores, an average vehicle will have a score of five.

California is the first state of pass such as law, and a similar law will take effect in New York for 2010 model year vehicles. Global warming scores will be included on the state’s DriveClean website.

While this law is intended to help consumers take into account emissions while purchasing cars, a proposed law in the European Union would require E.U. public sector bodies put a price on emissions.

A law endorsed by the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety would make governments put a monetary cost on the emissions of vehicles they plan to purchase, and add that to expense calculations. The law would exclude certain types of vehicles, such as ambulances and fire trucks.

Watermelons contain an ingredient called citrulline that can trigger production of a compound that helps relax the body’s blood vessels, similar to what happens when a man takes Viagra, said scientists in Texas, one of the nation’s top producers of the seedless variety. Found in the flesh and rind of watermelons, citrulline reacts with the body’s enzymes when consumed in large quantities and is changed into arginine, an amino acid that benefits the heart and the circulatory and immune systems.

“Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it,” said Bhimu Patil, a researcher and director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center. “Watermelon may not be as organ-specific as Viagra, but it’s a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side effects.”

Todd Wehner, who studies watermelon breeding at North Carolina State University, said anyone taking Viagra shouldn’t expect the same result from watermelon.

“It sounds like it would be an effect that would be interesting but not a substitute for any medical treatment,” Wehner said.

This is the creed of July 4: No matter what it costs us, no matter how it scares us, no matter how foolish it seems to a cynical world, America should stand up for human rights.

No, not even the brave men who picked up a quill, dipped it in ink and signed the parchment that summer day in Philadelphia lived up perfectly to the creed. But they did something extraordinary, founding a new nation upon a vow to oppose all the evil habits of tyranny.

That is why history still honors them.

But what will history think of us, of how we responded to our great challenge? Sept. 11 was a hideous evil, a grievous wound. Yet, truth told, it has not summoned our better angels as often as our worst.

We have betrayed the July 4 creed. We trample the vows we make, hand to heart.

Don’t imagine that only the torturer’s hand bears the guilt. The guilt reaches deep inside our Capitol, and beyond that - to us.

Our silence is complicit. In our name, innocents were jailed, humans tortured, our Constitution mangled. And we said so little.

We can’t claim not to have known. The best among us raised the alarm. Heroes in uniform, judges in robes, they opposed the perverse logic of an administration drenched in fear, drunk on power.

But did we heed them? Hardly. Barely . . .

We were so busy. Soccer practice at 6. A credit card balance to fret. The final vote on Idol.

We left it to those in power to keep our precious selves from harm. Whatever it took.

We took the coward’s way.

The world sees this, even if we are too dim to grasp it. We’ve lost respect. We’ve shamed the memory of Jefferson, Adams and Franklin.

And all for a scam. The waterboarding, the snarling dogs, the theft of sleep - all the diabolical tricks haven’t made us safer. They may have averted this plot or that. But they’ve spawned new enemies by the thousands, made the jihadist rants ring true to so many ears.

So put out no flags.

Sing no patriotic hymns.

We deserve no Fourth this year.

Let us atone, in quiet and humility. Let us spend the day truly studying the example of our Founders. May we earn a new birth of courage before our nation’s birthday next rolls around.

So, J.C. Watts thinks the Republican party is neglecting the black community. Hmm. That’s funny, because when I interviewed him in 2004, during an African-Americans for Bush event at the Waldorf Astoria in NY, (video here) and asked him what the Republican party could do to attract more black voters, he said they should just keep doing what they’re doing. He didn’t indicate there was any room for improvement and he disputed my assertion that doing what we’ve been doing hasn’t worked. I read the article and was just stunned at the colossal ignorance of these so called Negro conservatives.

“I don’t necessarily like his policies; I don’t like much that he advocates, but for the first time in my life, history thrusts me to really seriously think about it,” Williams said. “I can honestly say I have no idea who I’m going to pull that lever for in November. And to me, that’s incredible.”

So Negros who supposedly are conservatives and who are suppose to be mature enough to have developed the mindset of being colorblind when it comes to politics are actually considering voting for a liberal Negro because they themselves are color struck!?

I don’t know how long some of you folks have been peeping my little blog but you notice I rarely quote or post anything from many of these faux Negro conservative types because I have always regarded many of them as phony conservatives, with the exception of Thomas Sowell who I regard as the only “thinking” black conservative out there.
No true conservative would ever consider voting for an individual as liberal as Obama I don’t care how black he is suppose to be.

You know what is funny, If Obama manages to con enough white people into voting for him black folks will be no closer to the White House than they are now.
You actually think that Obama will appoint more minorities to the courts, or have more darkies in his administration, or even have any darkies amongst his staff or closest advisors. FUCK NO!
His election will not raise educational standards, curtail black on black crime or reduce baby daddy drama.

Obama was hand picked by someone or a group of folks (certainly all white) to try and wrestle the control of the Democratic Party from the grip of the Clinton’s and he has succeeded.
Obama if elected will owe a lot of people favors and I can guaran-damm-tee you people he won’t owe any darkies shit. Hell they did not support him initially anyway they only jumped on the bandwagon after a few victories.

This is why I find it kinda funny on the one hand but sad on the other.

An Obama election victory will somehow validate their existence or finally make them feel proud.

I am far more interested in black folks who run corporations, who are in a position to create wealth and jobs.
If Negros have this constant need to be “proud” of the accomplishments of darkies shit how about folks like John Thompson, chairman and CEO the computer security firm Symantec; Chuck Phillips, co-president of database giant Oracle, Myrtle Potter, President biotech company Genentech and others like
Richard D. Parsons, CEO of Time Warner, Kenneth I. Chenault, CEO of American Express, E. Stanley O’ Neal, CEO of Merrill Lynch.
These are just the few I know about. If Negros want to be impressed at the advances of Negrodom look at people like these folks who have impressed white people enough to entrust them with their money and potential profits.

Are people still that fucken clueless about the actual impact of a damm president? I don’t ever have to see a Negro President to understand just how far Negros have come in such a short time.
I’ll trade the election of a Negro for President for more young black youth graduating from high school, or fewer gang related crimes or fewer dead beat fathers and fewer ghetto fabulous welfare queens.
If all of these black folks including these retarded Negro conservative frauds were voting for Obama based on tangible evidence that his election will cure all the ills in Negrodom, I’d be all for it. But no, dude “looks like one of us” so lets vote for him.

Robert Schulz told police that the sudden, sharp pain in his head while driving Tuesday afternoon was followed by a “chest freeze.” Schulz said he had just purchased the flavored, frozen drink from a Sonic restaurant and was drinking it while driving at 3:45 p.m.

But he was hit by the painful sensation that often comes after a big swallow of cold liquid. Schulz said his car then went out of control, left the street and slammed into the front steps of a house.

An ambulance took Schulz to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was treated and released

(CNSNews.com) - At a time when congressional Republicans are pressing for expanded domestic oil drilling to boost supply, Republican Sen. John McCain says the goal of his energy policy is to move Americans away from oil. He also said oil companies “absolutely” should be giving something back to the consumer.

Americans “have to” move away from oil, McCain said Wednesday, not only because of soaring gasoline prices, “but also because of greenhouse gas emissions.”

His energy plan says nothing about oil drilling. Instead, McCain is pushing for alternative forms of energy — especially an expansion of nuclear power.

“We have to embark on a national mission to become energy independent — and nuclear power has to play a big role in that,” he told NBC’s “Today” show on Wednesday.

Asked if there’s anything he or Sen. Obama could do to ease soaring gasoline prices, McCain said “We could give them (American consumers) a bit of a break for this summer.”

McCain says that suspending the federal gasoline tax (18.4 cents a gallon) between Memorial Day and Labor Day might help a little bit. He also says he would temporarily halt new oil infusions into the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

But between now and November, McCain said he doubts gasoline prices will go much lower than they are now — and they “could go higher.” The situation won’t get much better than it is now, given that a finite supply of oil is controlled by a cartel.

Oil company profits

At a time of record oil prices and record profits — when oil companies are getting various tax breaks and financial incentives from the federal government — shouldn’t those companies “be able to give something back to the consumer?” NBC’s Matt Lauer asked McCain. “Absolutely,” McCain replied.

“And they should be investing in alternative energy and they should be giving back to the consumer and they should be embarking on research and development that will pay off in reducing our dependence on foreign oil,” McCain said.

“The point is, oil companies have got to be more participatory in alternate energy, in sharing their profits in a variety of ways, and there is very strong and justifiable emotion about their profits,” McCain said.

On Tuesday, Senate Republicans prevented a vote on a Democratic bill that would have imposed a 25 percent windfall profits tax on oil company profits. The motion to cut off debate and proceed to a vote failed by a 51-43 margin. Neither McCain nor Sen. Barack Obama cast a vote on the cloture motion.

But both presumed presidential candidates support a windfall profits tax.

Last month in North Carolina, McCain said, “I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere — and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax — that’s not what bothers me — but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.”

We happened to be watching this program when it aired.While the sentiments of this young lady are understandable, even laudable, the end of the interview gave us this exchange:

Neil Cavuto: So if he put Hillary Clinton on that ticket as his Vice President — a lot of Vice Presidents have gone on to become President — you’re still saying no?

Christie Atkins: What I would do is I would vote for McCain as President and then I would vote for Hillary Clinton as Vice President.

Neil Cavuto: Wow. Okay, well, you’ve been consistent Christie.

It is somewhat disturbing that neither Ms. Atkins nor Mr. Cavuto seem to be aware that since the rise of the two party system one cannot vote for a President on one ticket and a Vice President on another.

But such abject ignorance is more the rule than the exception at Fox News and of course the media in general.

Listen to any of the seemingly endless parade of (admittedly, usually toothsome) pundits and strategists who are given air time.

They, like our citizenry at large, are pathetically unschooled in even the most basic knowledge of civics and history.

Which is how we have ended up with candidates like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — and, alas, John McCain.

I have heard about this clip, but just watched this morning. Jaw dropping.

This morning, a Boston-born performance artist, Yazmany Arboleda, tried to set up a provocative art exhibition in a vacant storefront on West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan with the title, “The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama,” in neatly stenciled letters on the plate glass windows at street level.

By 9:30 a.m., New York City police detectives and Secret Service agents had shut down the exhibition, and building workers quickly covered over the inflammatory title with large sheets of brown paper and blue masking tape. The gallery is across the street from the southern entrance to The New York Times building.

The police officers declined to answer any questions, and at first would not permit reporters to speak with Mr. Arboleda, who was wearing a black T-shirt and making cellphone calls from inside the makeshift gallery.

Later, Mr. Arboleda, who is 27, said in an interview: “It’s art. It’s not supposed to be harmful. It’s about character assassination — about how Obama and Hillary have been portrayed by the media.” He added, “It’s about the media.”

Mr. Arboleda said the exhibition was to open on Thursday and run all day.

The interview was abruptly ended as Mr. Arboleda was led off to the Midtown South police precinct for what he called an interrogation.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama admitted on Tuesday he was wrong to say his uncle helped liberate the Nazis’ Auschwitz concentration camp after Republicans said Soviet troops freed the camp.

Obama’s campaign said the candidate meant to say that his great-uncle, Charlie Payne, had helped liberate a part of the Buchenwald camp, not Auschwitz.

“Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Burton said in the statement that Obama’s great uncle served in the 89th Infantry Division that entered Germany in 1945 and on April 4 overran Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp.

Obama had made the Auschwitz reference in a Memorial Day speech on Monday.

More than 1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed at Auschwitz, an extermination camp in Poland. Buchenwald in Germany was mainly a forced labor camp, where some 56,000 people are believed to have died.

“I had an uncle who was … part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps,” Obama said.

“And the story in our family was is that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn’t leave the house for six months,” he said.

The Republican National Committee quickly pointed out that the Red Army had liberated Auschwitz in 1945, not American forces.
