Artificial stupidity

college.jpgBy Thomas Sowell - on Townhall

A recent news story about a teacher who assigned her students to write anti-war letters may have seemed like just an isolated episode, but teachers using students for their own little ego trips is by no means uncommon. Perhaps the worst recent example was a teacher who unleashed her venom on the children of military personnel who had gone off to fight in Iraq.Just last week I received a bundle of letters from students who have apparently been given an assignment to write to me by a teacher in an English class in Flat Rock High School in Flat Rock, Michigan. This was occasioned by a column of mine that said some things that were not politically correct.

The first of these letters was from a girl who informed me, from her vast store of teenage wisdom, of things that I knew 30 years ago, and closed by telling me that I needed to find out about poverty. Since I spent more years in poverty than she has spent in the world, this would be funny if it were not so sad.

With American students consistently scoring at or near the bottom on international tests, you would think that our schools would have better things to do than tell kids to write letters to strangers, spouting off about things they know little or nothing about.

Flat Rock High School’s envelopes, in which the students wrote their assigned letters, have the motto: “Where Tomorrow’s Leaders Learn!” Sadly, they are learning not to be leaders but to be sheep-like followers, repeating politically correct notions and reacting with snotty remarks to anyone who contradicts them.

It is bad enough when someone takes the position that he has made up his mind and doesn’t want to be confused by the facts. It is worse when someone else makes up his mind for him and then he dismisses any facts to the contrary by attributing bad motives to those who present those facts.

Creating mindless followers is one of the most dangerous things that our public schools are doing. Young people who know only how to vent their emotions, and not how to weigh opposing arguments through logic and evidence, are sitting ducks for the next talented demagogue who comes along in some cult or movement, including movements like those that put the Nazis in power in Germany.

At one time, the educator’s creed was: “We are here to teach you how to think, not what to think.” Today, schools across the country are teaching students what to think — whether about the environment, the war, social policy, or whatever.

Even if what they teach were true, that would be of little use to these young people in later life. Issues and conditions change so much over time that even the truth about today’s issues becomes irrelevant when confronted with the future’s new challenges.

If students haven’t been taught to think, then they are at the mercy of events, as well as being at the mercy of those who know how to take advantage of their ignorance and their emotions.
Classroom brainwashing is not new. I wrote about it a decade ago in my book “Inside American Education.” Hearings at the Department of Education brought out the same things a decade before that.

When will the voting public get the message? Where are the parents of these children? Do parents in Flat Rock, Michigan, want their children’s time in school wasted on their teachers’ ideological hobby horses, instead of being used to prepare an intellectual foundation for their further education?

In the long run, the greatest weapon of mass destruction is stupidity. In an age of artificial intelligence, too many of our schools are producing artificial stupidity, in the sense of ideas and attitudes far more foolish than young people would have arrived at on their own. I doubt whether the youngsters in Flat Rock, Michigan, were brought up by their parents to say and do the silly things their teachers have assigned them to do.

Weapons of mass destruction in the hands of an avowed enemy can destroy many Americans, but they cannot destroy America, because we are too strong and too capable of counterattack. Only Americans can destroy America. But too many of our schools have for years been quietly undermining the values and abilities that are needed to preserve any society — and especially a free society.

Looney Liberal Rant: “Why we’re existing in a police state.”

Monday, September 24th, 2007

superretard.jpg

By Archangel M - The Daily Kos - Post Link

The recent assault, torture and arrest of University of Florida student Andrew Myer by campus cops is but the latest example of what has become an increasingly frequent phenomenon in the United States of America. When ass-kissing chickenshit David Petraeus lied his ass off before Congress about the failed “surge”, capitol hill police tackled and arrested a pentecostal minister, damaging his ankle in the process. His “crime”? Trying to get in to watch and listen to the hearings.

As reported in the Nation magazine, sixty-year old Carol Trainer — a Vietnam veteran — was arrested and hauled away as the mayor of Louisville, Kentucky sat and glared at her.

looneyleft1.jpgLast November, a student at UCLA was assaulted, tasered and arrested by campus cops, for failing to show his identification. A blogger who wrote about this abuse of power also pointed out how, in Houston, Texas that same month, a bunch of striking union workers were trampled by police on horseback, arrested, and subjected to what amounts to torture.

If you think America isn’t undergoing the same slide into fascist dictatorship today as Germany did in the 1930s, you’re kidding yourself. Each of the six examples of police brutality I cited, all of them against nonviolent students and protesters, has taken place within a roughly ten-month period. But where is the outrage in the mainstream media? Why aren’t the steps of the Capitol Building and the gates of the White House being flooded with protesters demanding accountability for abuses of executive power that has so permeated society that it infects our local police departments?

And therein lies one reason why this is happening. Although there has been some dissent, some outrage, it has been largely confined to the blogosphere and political discussion forums. People dare not stand up publicly against these police state tactics to silence dissent. They dare not risk being beaten down. Another reason, pointed out by the Rude Pundit, is that there are those in American society who not only actually approve of this shit, but go so far as to cheer it on! “Yeah!” they think. “Show them what they get for stepping out of line!”

Those two reasons, more than the brutal assaults on people and the First Amendment, are why America is devolving into a bad replay of Nazi Germany. The lack of national outrage, to the point we do something about it; and the support of it by mindless groupthinkers in society who are so stupid they think it’s a good thing that we’re being subjected to tyranny.

God help us all.

Warning! Snoop rant:

protest82.jpgOk this is funny, after reading this it reminded me of Ahmadinejad’s recently completed incoherent propaganda rant.

All hell, how many times and how many ways can I say “liberals have issues!”

Again this is an example of not necessarily giving a shit about what this moronic dude has to say only to point out the exorbitant level of ill logic exhibited by these people.

The bad thing about the Daily Kos site these days is there are so many of these people writing diaries and I believe that in order to get noticed they write crazier and zanier entries ranting like little children in order to get attention.

It’s one thing to have a valid political point, it is quite another to pull out the vestiges of a truly evil time period where the shadow of a murderous dictator loomed over the entire world.

Here we have some young jackass supposedly educating the rest of us dolts, no doubt living with his parents or barricaded in some college dorm or dank dark apartment complete with video games galore and no doubt the latest Halo, stale pizza, cigarette butts acting as carpeting reeking with the stench of your typical discharge accident from too much alcohol consumption.

I’m a 43 year old black man and it would be disingenuous of me to write entries talking about the evils that existed back in the true Jim Crow era, whites only signs, segregated hotels, restaurants, drinking fountains or to try and process the pending threat that was Hitler and communism.
How the fuck could some young mentally challenged individual even begin to process the notion that America is slipping into this fascist state, when I just finished watching some pinhead moronic dictator speak at one of this nations most prestigious universities not to mention that the event was simulcast on FOX NEWS!

The University of Florida student was a prankster and a typical college aged jackass, brash, arrogant spoiled pricks. I see all too often these self-absorbed frat boy sorostitutes types wandering the university grounds, cell phones stuck to the ear paying little or no attention to the world around them or that car about the strike them.
This generation of emotionally challenged individuals find it difficult to respect those outside of their entourage.
As much as I detest John Kerry, he and that audience deserved respect, but college aged pranksters have hindered free speech by acting like a bunch of ignorant fucks which is precisely why few right leaning types venture to college campuses anymore.
Foolish and moronic behavior is the norm.

Here in Lawrence we have an institution where national and world leaders not to mention prominent political figures and Pulitzer Prize winning columnists regularly speak and the only time you see students attending is when they are offered “extra credit” or some incentive for attending.
When the speaker does not fit the typical liberal ideology the talk is ether ignored or some phony protest with the stereotypical passing out of “fact” sheets with erroneous information.
Liberals are not interested in acquiring knowledge only promoting their twisted spin on the world and crying when the would does not fit in their little bow wrapped gift box.

I’ll give you one example: Recently while speaking to a student, very nice young lady, smart, motivated in the process of getting her masters, we were discussing Iraq and setting aside the particulars the point I want to focus on was she said she “hated George Bush for getting us into this war.”
Now I never want to get into a debate on the semantics of whether or not we should or should not be in Iraq with folks, what I always focus on when speaking to a young person is “when does your history on Iraq begin?”
You see to me if you want to tell me we should not have been in Iraq, and only want to focus on the history while G Dub has been in office and totally ignore anything prior to G Dub taking office, there is nothing to discuss.
This young lady is 24 and knows nothing about what was said prior to Bush’s presidency.
There are tons of clips on You Tube feature Mrs. Bill’s ever changing stance on Iraq and virtually every Democrat morphing views on the issue.lawdc011sm.jpg
All I asked of her was to truly study the issue. While listening to her all she could do was regurgitate Democrat clichés, she was ridiculously clueless on the issue other that what she read in the New York Times (she said it) or what was discussed in her political science class.

The point is do liberal choose to be ignorant of all the facts. Many choose not to acknowledge what was said before or simply choose to only put political blame on a policy that no one individual can carry out.

Liberals selective ranting is all political. Think about it. If you believe in gay marriage and you somehow think that by berating the current president on an issue that you really don’t give a shit about, can get you closer to electing an individual with your political values, then why not join the “Iraq is wrong, impeach Bush” bullshit.
Who cares if pussy ass Democrats doesn’t have the balls to stop funding.

Bottom line when you read liberals rant about whatever, you always have to ask yourself what is their real motive?

Referring to a 4 star general as an “ass-kissing chickenshit” tells you everything you need to know about the absence of logic that exists in the minds of most young liberals today.

This dude is unlikely to give a shit about the growing fascist state of America while attending a pep rally for his favorite college sports team or licking the tequila and salt off the stomach of some skank in a bar.

Keep in mind that the Democrats actually courts this twisted moronic demographic.

This just in: Snoop is not part of the blog elite - Blogging Elitism

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

eliteblog.jpgI found this piece on the blog Outside the Beltway

For some years now, bloggers have been portrayed (and have portrayed themselves) as grass-roots outsiders, rebels storming the privileged bastions of the journalistic elite. I’m not sure that image was ever accurate, and the hierarchy of the blogosphere is probably becoming more elitist every day, as more establishment organizations seek to carve out a place in the medium. (source)

McCain notes that even the original Wonkette, Ana Marie Cox, has degrees from Chicago and Berkeley.
Almost all the top bloggers have graduate or professional degrees, mostly from elite schools. As I’ve noted many times over the years (see, for example, “Professionalization of the Blogosphere“), it stands to reason that the blogosphere would be dominated by academics and lawyers, who tend to have both the intellectual training and the time available to spend large chunks of their day processing information and churning out interesting commentary on it. The pure hobbyists like John Amato and Ed Morrissey, who have achieved huge readership simply through passion and hard work, are exceptional, indeed.

Take a look at the rest of the Atlantic’s bloggers, and see if you can’t discern a certain pattern in the educational pedigree:

Ross Douthat — Harvard.

Matthew Yglesias — Harvard.

Marc Armbinder — Harvard.

James Fallows — Harvard, graduate degree from Oxford.

Andrew Sullivan — Oxford, with master’s and Ph.D. from Harvard.

Caution Snoop rant: I’m slightly cranky today so keep in mind as you decipher this rant…

To first be amongst the blogging elite you must be able to;

1 - Type proficiently, that goes without saying.

2 - Avoid vitriolic attacks against those with whom you may disagree.

3 - Be fair and accommodating to your readers.

4 – Don’t say shit, fuck, damm, motherfucker, the N word in your posts.

5 – Be white… yes, be white. No I’m not being racial AGAIN, but it tis a fact.

The blogsphere is quickly turning into an extension of the MSM where you must be part of the good ole white boyz network for your opinions to matter.

This is the same reason why all talking head shows feature the same ole rhetoric spewing bobble head old white dudes on all networks.
The blogsphere has this closed inner circle of self promoting types pimping each other to keep readership up and ads revenues flowing.

I see way too often on blogs “blog polls” with an exclusive circle of approved bloggers to promote like minded thought or these “my favorite blog” rankings of approved blog resources.

I consciously try to make an effort and read some of the smaller blogs with interesting, funny and witty commentary. It not just about how many people are reading a particular blog. Hell if certain blogs are all pimping each other of course readership will inevitable increase and stay strong.

Blogging should be more defined by the raw thought and emotion that comes from your average Jane or Joe and not some cheese eating, wine sipping faux political insiders.

Besides, me, I’m not that deep, when it comes to assessing the colossal stupidity of some folks and politicians sometimes a good ole “You are a fucken idiot” is sufficient, although intellectual types might cringe at my unabashed barbarianism.
It’s clear a PhD is not writing this blog. No degrees of higher education clutter my office walls. Although I do have some cool pictures of political folks, jazz prints and a nice view any PhD type would envy.

People who are paid to blog are not bloggers in my opinion. It is unfortunate that media establishments and political campaigns are hiring these elite types’ to impersonate bloggers and blurring the line between raw passionate political and societal dialogue with canned partisan commentary.

Academics Give Millions to Put Democrat in White House

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

.academia.jpg

(CNSNews.com) - Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama received about $1.5 million in contributions this year from college professors and others in the education field, outpacing the party’s front-runner, Sen. Hillary Clinton, who got $940,000 from academics.Still, Clinton’s near-$1-million second-place finish was almost as much as academia’s total combined donations to leading Republican candidates Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. (See Complete Candidate Breakdown)

That many college professors and academics lean to the political left is no surprise — 76 percent of their donations went to Democratic candidates in the first two quarters of 2007. But the volume of their donations is increasing, according to an analysis by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), which tracks money in politics.

“College professors and others in the education field have contributed more money than the oil industry and drug makers, with the nearly unanimous goal of putting a Democrat in the White House,” the report said.
