WTF!? Black and single: Is marriage really for white people?
A career she enjoyed, a nice home, two adorable children and a husband. She shared her tools for success with me at an early age. She went to college, got married and waited until she was 26 to have her first child.
The perfect life. The perfect plan. It was one I decided to model.
My aspirations for both a career and family were set at the age of 12. I knew I could accomplish what Mrs. Allen, my fifth- and seventh-grade teacher, had. But as I approach 30 and measure the goals I had at 12 against the reality of life, the only thing I can check off that list is a college education.
I am a statistic.
And there are millions more like me. Forty-five percent of black women in America have never been married, compared with 23 percent of white women, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in 2006. Articles like the one published in the Washington Post two years ago could lead me to believe that it’s because “Marriage is for White People.”
Folks feel free to read the rest of this article, I started to comment but for the first time I am censoring myself from saying what I really think about the article. I am just fuming at the retardation of such a premise.
Just an FYI I watched most of the program Black in America last night and I was just as embarrassed as I thought I would
be.
I’m curious as to what the rating were for this show, the lower the better because if any other ethnic group were to watch it they would be no doubt be saying “Niggas are pathetic.” From highlighting the alarming rate of sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV, to the numbers of children in poverty from the millions of single moms, the incarceration rates of men, the growing educational gap of black women versus black men yada, yada, yada and the whole time I was watching and thinking and CNN thinks having a program highlighting these deficiencies is a good thing particularly when they know damm well that Niggas were not likely watching because they either watching that stupid Baldwin Hill reality show or the equally retarded Flavor of Love.
There was one segment they showed where this girl started a program called “Marry Your Babies Daddy Day.”
I’ve said before although we black folks have this innate sense caring for our fellow brotha or sista watching programs like this seriously erodes this mindset.
