Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing is not a damm protest song!

From Hot Air

The city of Denver has already begun to celebrate the Democratic National Convention, which officially begins less than two months from now.  Pre-events have included the Colorful Food Watch and the Festival of Unpaid Bills, and yesterday’s State of the City speech began with Leftist Patriotism on Display.  Instead of singing the national anthem as requested, Rene Marie replaced it with a protest song:

Mayor John Hickenlooper’s annual State of the City address may get more attention for what wasn’t included than what was.

At the start of the event Tuesday morning, City Council President Michael Hancock introduced singer Rene Marie to perform the national anthem.

Instead, she performed the song “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” which is also known as the “black national anthem.”

When she finished, the audience responded with mild applause. The national anthem was never performed.

But first folks, dead serious, I’m gonna tell y’all again and remember this is not some disgruntled Negro who does not want Obama elected. I said many months ago that I don’t give a shit who is elected. But if Obama is elected you are going to see Niggas act out and do crazy and stupid shit above and beyond normal Negrodom all because a darkie is occupying the White House.
If you have not watched the “A Warning to White America Video” I suggest you do so.

Having said that, someone please pass this on to Mr. Morrissey “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” is NOT a protest song.
In fact it is a beautiful song I get chills everytime I hear it, it just is not the our national anthem.
For some white dude to say this was a “protest” song is frankly insulting.

However as more stories like this are written people ignorant of the “Negro ways” will always take the more inflammatory route.
Yes I’m critical of Negros often and no this young lady should not have done what she did but Negro foibles are now going to be magnified as white folks will now have to “learn” about Negros in a small way because Obama’s skin pigmentation has highlighted Negrodom.

Here is an extended version…

Like I said when I sent you this one this morning:

Leaving aside what the Star Spangled Banner is about, when it’s from, and how those of us who’ve taken fire and watched friends die in defense of our country FEEL about the song…

    - At the end of the day, she was supposed to sing the National Anthem at an official government function - she agreed to - she didn’t.

She could’ve been a pre-crack Whitney Houston singing the most beautiful song she knew on the best day of her life, and it still would have been direspectful on levels difficult to count.

That being the case, I don’t give one red damn what she did sing or what it might do to Chris Matthews’ leg.

MD I agree 100%, don’t get me wrong, what she did was disrespectful, but no more disrespectful than Obama not putting his hand over his heart or fat ass Rosie howling the national anthem at a baseball game.

Shit I’ve been to countless football and basketball games where drunken rednecks are burping, farting and chanting USA! USA! during the national anthem.

My beef was dude saying it was a protest song, this is a small example of what we are going to have to deal with. As I said in the post, as more Negros engage in Negrodom showing out because the prez is a brotha, I’m gonna have to read shit from white folks who don’t know jack about black folks basically inflating someone not singing the national anthem into a “fuck you America” statement.

White people bitch and moan all the damm time about how rap and Negroness has taken over the popular culture and that gangstaness is having am uncomfortable large influence on “white” culture particularly the white bread suburban kiddies.
How many white people had even heard of the song? I’m like fuck so a few more white folks, the few that read this blog can listen and enjoy the damm song so see it is not a fight or war tune about Negros marching on the white kingdom and taking over the gubment, to me that was the implication of the post.

I’m as pro American as anyone but posts like this one are just the tip of the iceberg.
Just look at all the hoopla over the “fist bump” Obama and Michelle did.
WAS THAT SOME SORT OF BLACK THING!

I already know, it’s gonna annoy the fuck out of me in the long run.
Obama is going to have to give up eating fried chicken if he is elected because on some talking head show psychoanalysis will take place as the discussion will be about the large consumption of chicken by black folks and since Obama likes it will it lead to a global shortage of fried chicken!

  3. MuscleDaddy Says:

    First -
I don’t think we have to worry about Mr. Dainty Fingers eating too much fried chicken - at least not without asking the other countires in the world community if it’s okay first.

    Second -
It’s going to be kind of difficult to look at it as other than something deliberately ’separatist’, when the singer in question answers questions about it with:

“When I decided to sing my version, what was going on in my head was: ‘I want to express how I feel about living in the United States, as a black woman, as a black person’”

Whaddaya think - does that make it sound like it was SOME SORT OF BLACK THING?

    Third -
We may disagree about this one - but I find it even more disrespectful than the belching rednecks at the football games, because they weren’t invited.

She was invited to represent the City of Denver in singing the National Anthem at the opening of an official Government function and she accepted - before hijcking the event for her own personal reasons/agenda.

I know “Lift Every Voice” - I’ve sung in church - and I know that I wouldn’t have sung the National Anthem in its place.

Wrong song - wrong place - wrong time.

And I HELL-sure wouldn’t have sung it after promising to sing ‘Lift every voice’.

    - because THAT would have made it even more disrespectful.

    Just sayin’s all.

I read that article and didn’t know what to think. Never heard of the song before. When it stated “which is also known as the black national anthem” I did wonder who the hell that referred to. Who called it that? Who used it thus? I mean there was no explanation. So I thought it was strange. No background. Just a bald statement.

So I appreciate your input and the link for hearing it first hand.

I have a super slow dialup access, and it takes forever to download videos. So I’ll go cook dinner and about the time we’re done with that I should be able to see it.

Then about time for dessert I might be able to see the “Warning to White America” video.

I’m looking forward to being educated on that one.

disrespectful, but no more disrespectful than Obama not putting his hand over his heart

How much longer is that fucking lie gonna be told.BTW, fuck America(well the white racist part)The rest of it I love. You white racists bigots should be glad that “One Nation Under a Groove” wasn’t performed.black people are gettin’ tired of your nit picking. You white people what to know the truth Rev.Wright not a racist, but if you keep fucking with us saying he a black nationalist , you’re going to see real black nationalist. Oreilly said he was going to hang someone’s wife . You have no G-ddamn respect for black people.

  6. MuscleDaddy Says:

    Hmeh,

Snoop - you want to tell him or should I?

    - MuscleDaddy

  7. SylviaMarie Says:

Kid Funkadelic, when you say “how much longer is that lie gonna be told”, are you referring to the story that Obama doesn’t put his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance? I think the source of that story is the pretty well-known picture of Obama standing on a stage with other people who do have their hands over their hearts during the Pledge and Obama very clearly has his hands clasped at his waist.

I thought badly of him at the time, but I most definitely don’t connect that to his being black, and I don’t see why you do.

Anytime I’m personally in a group of adults saying the Pledge — most notably at my children’s school — and I happen to notice an adult in the crowd that doesn’t put hand over heart (or a man who doesn’t remove head covering), I definitely think they’re a jerk or, you know, a total putz, but I don’t remember ever appending to that thought anything about the color of their skin. Why do you assume it’s connected?

And BTW, why just “f**k America - the white racist part”? Shouldn’t we despise racists of any stripe? Are there blacks who hate Asians? Are there Hispanics who hate blacks? Unreasonable hate flies many flags. I reject white racists just as much as I reject black racists. Don’t you agree?

And as a last thought, you know what really puts me off having respect for someone and giving further respect to their arguments?

It’s the use of G-D. Plain and simple. You’re just gonna piss of God-fearing people by using that phrase. Now, I realize that when you want to say what you gotta say, it really doesn’t matter who a person pisses off. And maybe you just want to piss people off.

But if you want people to actually pay attention to the point of your thoughts, there is something to be said for civil discourse, for refraining from vulgarisms or, in this case, sacrilegious words. If you want to be taken seriously, if you want people to listen to and respect your opinion, speak with words of civility.

Truly, you will project self-respect when you refrain from offensive words and phrases.

The English language is chock full of words and phrases that can deliver a barb more potently poisonous than the average overused 4-letter word or the ultimate sacreligious tossed-off phrase. I find it a fun challenge to write with that in mind. Maybe you could try it too.

  8. Snoop Says:

Muscle Daddy you do the honors, LOL!!!!!

  9. MuscleDaddy Says:

    Hey Kid-Funk,

I realize you must be really attached to your ‘Obama-Opponents-Are-Just-White-Racists’ narrative - and it’s not unreasonable that you would be, since it’s easy, rolls off the tongue smoothly and requires no heavy-lifting (mentally, I mean).

All-in-all, good work, if you can get it.

Quick bit of advice for you though (and I’ll type this next part slowly, so you won’t have to read it too fast):

“Be Sure of Your Audience” - Why?

    First a quick recap:
    ============================

”You white racists bigots should be glad that “One Nation Under a Groove” wasn’t performed.”

”black people are gettin’ tired of your nit picking.”

”You white people what to know the truth Rev.Wright not a racist, but if you keep fucking with us saying he a black nationalist , you’re going to see real black nationalist.”

    - and my personal favorite…

”You have no G-ddamn respect for black people.”

    ============================

    Okay, so here’s the thing…
(lean in close to the screen here, Sparky - I’m going to type this next part real quiet-like..)

    **************************
    Snoop… is Black.
    **************************

As an aside, I myself am what is known in the ‘African-American Community’ as “Beige” - being ‘A-White-Person-Largely-Raised-by-Loving-Black Families-In-a-Predominately-Black Neighborhood’ - scratch the surface and the color just gets darker.

You came to the wrong place for that dumb-assed ‘White-Racism’ screed, spud.

    Hee-Hee!

You can’t tell a person race on the internet unless you have a camera.I know snoop he put out that fucked up picture of Dog the Brother Hunter on a cereal box eating “Nigger-O’s” .It on a racist site called “Death by a 1000 papercuts”. It connects to Stormfront, those people that are bitter and cling to their guns and nooses.Hello … or should I say shalom.I love “Lucky Number Slevin”,motion.

  12. Kid Funkadelic Says:

So you’re black and stormfront loves you. You have a confederate flag on a flask at the top of the page. You’re as black as Juan Williams, Jessie Lee Peterson, or Nigger and Roy Innis. As well as a brother ,could be undercover.

  13. Kid Funkadelic Says:

How can 13% of the country be racist. I guess all those Jews that are left in Germany are anti-Arian.

  14. MuscleDaddy Says:

“As well as a brother ,could be undercover.”

    ??

    What are you, twelve?
