I have to disagree with you on this one. At first I felt the same way you did. After some reflection my appreciation of Newt has risen again.

The other day I read this and was appalled.
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/ibdarticles.aspx?id=288920093794177
(To sum up, it's an Obama sponsored bill aimed at killing our sovereignty and increasing global redistribution of wealth)
I sent the link to a die hard conservative, an expert in politics. He's deeply enmeshed in the going-on in DC. He responded that he'd read the bill and that it was nothing to worry about, as it's just a report. He's wrong. It is something to worry about. Because in five years that report will be given the air of legitimacy because it's an "official government report," and used as a basis of justification for pushing through the global socialist agenda. He doesn't see that.

It's the same thing here. Republicans refuse to think strategically rather than tactically, and it's killing them. Newt has looked at the issue, seen where it's going, and is positioning himself to prevent Democrats wresting control of it, claiming high moral authority. Enough of the people are already concerned about the environment, and more will be as the propaganda continues.

Newt is making sure he (and hopefully other Republicans) can say they were in from the beginning of the policy examination, and therefore help to steer it in a sensible direction. The alternative is to end up painted yet again as evil.

Right now Newt is doing what a hell of a lot more Republicans should be doing. He is organizing nationwide, from the ground up, and looking past this election to the GOP's future. Stategy, not tactics, will win in the end. Democrats had it all throughout the 20th century, and look where it has put us. He should be getting as much support as we can give him.

"Republicans refuse to think strategically rather than tactically, and it’s killing them. Newt has looked at the issue, seen where it’s going, and is positioning himself to prevent Democrats wresting control of it"

Oh trust me Mell I understand what Newt is doing and he has explained this on a number of occasions.
I just strongly fundamentally disagree with his approach.

Global Warming, climate change however you want to phrase it is complete and utter hoax, period.

Pretending to have a dialogue and discussions and research on an issue that is completely and utterly a fraud is almost criminal in nature.

I’m tired of politicians, particularly Republicans who have been beat down to the point where they must try and legitimize this hoax by caving in to these climate change thugs in exchange for remaining politically viable.
It is well documented that Al Gore has a financial stake in promoting this bullshit I wonder how many of these Republicans have a stake in this hoax.

Researchers at universities when talking about this issue see dollar signs in the billions of dollars in research grants by promoting this bullshit. Climate change rhetoric is a cash cow.
This climate change bullshit is ultimately an attack on capitalism and we as tax payers will eventually pay dearly for the promotion of this fraud.

I believe that all human beings should be conscious of our effect we have on this planet and I believe that reasonable environments standards on businesses and effective common sense environmental practices is a good thing, but climate change thugs want to completely alter how average Americans live their lives.

This is not about “saving the planet” and by having someone like Newt who was seen as one of the leaders of conservative consciousness in this country insist that we need to have more “dialogue” on one of the biggest ideological, sociological and political frauds in this nations history is in my mind totally unacceptable.
Just like I do most issues what I always come back to is what does an individual gain by promoting a fraud. It’s either money or political relevancy or both.

Anthropogenic Climate Change is likely a global socialist fraud.

Climate Change is a natural occurrence, may be happening, but is being seized as part of a global socialist fraud.

A need to point ourselves in the direction of alternative energy sources, remaining ahead of the world in technology while weaning ourselves of the need for the oil owned by dictators and other scum is just a good idea. Better we help hold the reins so the issue doesn't run away with itself.

I really think you're being too hard here, even as you use an argument I very often make myself in regard to politicians. But more power.

"A need to point ourselves in the direction of alternative energy sources"

That’s just it Mel, right now there are no alternative energy resources on the horizon.
We can talk all day about wind or solar or food based fuels (which by the way is the reason for food prices being so high) but socialist liberals are preventing the US from 1) explore for oil in our own hemisphere and 2) not allowing the construction of new refining facilities. There is shit loads of oil, every other country else in the western Hemisphere is finding huge oil reserves in the gulf for example but socialists want to hog tie our hands when it comes to providing our own fuel resources

Schumer also said Bush is "plain wrong" about how to address the situation. In particular, he said, opening the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration will do nothing to alleviate high gasoline prices, noting it will take 10 years before new oil could be produced and then it would reduce the price of gas by only a penny a gallon.

A 1998 United States Geological Survey (USGS) study indicated at least 4.3 billion (95% probability) and possibly as much as 11.8 billion (5% probability) barrels (0.9 to 2.5 km³) of technically recoverable oil exists in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge 1002 area, with a mean value of 7.7 billion barrels (1.7 km³). In addition, in the entire assessment area, which covers not only land under Federal jurisdiction, but also Native lands and adjacent State waters within three miles (5 km), technically recoverable oil is estimated to be at least 5.7 billion (95%) and as much as 16.0 billion (5%) barrels (0.7 to 1.9 km³), with a mean value of 10.4 billion barrels (1.2 km³). Economically recoverable oil within the Federal lands assuming a market price of $40/barrel (constant 1996 dollars - the highest price included in the USGS study) is estimated to be between 3.4 billion (95%) and 10.4 billion (5%) barrels (0.5 to 1.7 km³), with a mean value of 6.8 billion barrels (1.1 km³).[3]

The 10.4-billion-barrel (1.65 km³) figure was used in publications by the U.S. Department of the Interior while it was headed by Gale Norton, a proponent of drilling in the Arctic Refuge.[11]

The U.S. consumes about 20 million barrels (3,200,000 m³) daily. If the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge oil reserves were used to supply 5% of the U.S. daily consumption -- most is imported from Canada (19%), Mexico (15%), Saudi Arabia (11.5%), Nigeria (10.5%) and Venezuela (10.5%)

1994 An Energy Bill authorized drilling in ANWR, Senate Democrats kept the measure from coming to a vote. In 1995, Republicans prepared to take up the battle again and included a provision for ANWR in the federal budget. President Bill Clinton vetoed the entire budget and expressed his intention to veto any other bill that would open ANWR to drilling.

Certainly one day through innovation we will come up with alternate resources, I’m all for coming up with alternative resources but let’s face it OIL IS IT for now.

Let me give you a quick example of why liberals piss me off on this.
I have a co-worker who organized a “climate change” presentation for the public.
During this presentation it was said by more than a few “Kansas Democrats” that they see the rising of gas prices as a good thing because it will force the debate on alternate energy resources.

She along with one other lefty who works for one of our congress folks said point blank that she would rather see $5 per gallon gas prices rather than see the US engage in more drilling in the gulf or ANWAR.

One day down the road, I will post audio portions of that event and let you listen to a number of Democrat liberals say they see no problem with the high gas prices.
One of our state Senators said she wanted to see increased gas taxes and even proposed a “penalty tax” on people who drive cars that don’t get a certain MPG.

This is the lunacy of liberal Democrats, but they won’t say this shit to the American public, they simply will have press conferences talking about oil companies gouging folks.

You are making huge leaps. I want ANWR open ten years ago.

I agree it is oil right now. MEANWHILE, just as Kennedy (empowered by his death) set in motion our arrival on the moon in less than a decade, we need, as I said, to POINT OURSELVES IN THE DIRECTION.

Yes, we should have more refineries, the end of different states having different blends, we should push for nuclear energy so the FRENCH aren't ahead of us by decades, we should drill ANWR and off our coasts and in the Dakotas, etc.

But we ALSO must prevent the global socialists from hijacking the future.

Why is this so hard to grasp? Tactics AND STRATEGY, not just tactics.

Mell seriously you and I really are not that far off on the “strategy” issue.
My point is those on the right (Newt) are not even bothering to refute the scam.
I personally don’t like the “lets hold hands with the left on this issue so the won’t hijack the debate.”

True conservatives should at the very least be pushing back not appearing in commercials and appearing at public events (like the one I witnessed) and act like a bunch of pussies.
What I hate as much as corrupt politicians are spineless pussy ass politicians who won’t stand on principles. Global Warming is a complete and utter farce, I can emphasize that enough. I personally won’t talk about the issue to anyone, particularly liberals because the topic is so far fetched and ridiculous for one and most liberals who attempt to talk about it can’t even have a logical discussion on the issue because they have been so fucken brainwashed by the MSM and other socialist thugs.

Bottom line, I don’t see any compromise or willingness to truly debate the issue. It’s all about promoting and profiting on a hoax.
I’m sorry but I personally just can’t get past that.
