I think the only role technology has to play in all of this is there is now a place for the fucked up people to showcase themselves. Are we getting worse as a society? I am of two minds on this myself. On the one hand I agree they have always been there and always will be unfortunately, YouTube, Myspace, Black planet etc give them a place to show themselves. Is society getting worse? I also think this is also true do to the reward for lack of responsibility via ACLU, lawyers etc. How often do we look the other way when we see unacceptable behavior? Why do we do it? I'm sure the biggest reason is fear of retaliation. I am 42 y/o and I remember when I was a kid having an adult threaten to tell my parents was enough to make me knock whatever I was doing off. Now adays that's not a threat, it's almost a dare.

I believe that the only way for a civilized society to survive is by the civility of the populace. Once that goes so does the society. Parents are the primary problem, broken homes, shitty attitudes, get what you can and to hell with the consequences, denial, refusal to pay attention to their kids who adopt the parents shitty attitudes and the cycle repeats. We don't have to look much further than the political blood sport we as a society engage in constantly to see more examples of poor behavior rewarded.

Advocating and requiring responsibility for actions has to start somewhere to regain civility.
