Cut and paste of a comment I made elsewhere:
First of all, good marketing on the part of Absolut. I salute them. I wish them and their product, which I will never purchase, well.I would also like to thank them.I’m sure Absolut researched this to no small degree. Ads, especially an ad with such a bold statement as this, normally involve experts spending the time and dollars to do significant research into what the customer wants. (Sure, companies make mistakes. There have been some pretty funny ones that offend the locals of different countries. I don’t expect anyone beyond the usual trolls to play that distraction on this. Absolut knew what they were doing and saying with this ad.)All that time and money taught Absolut the average Absolut drinking Mexican believes a huge portion of the United States should belong to Mexico. I don’t think your average “they just come to the US to feed their families,” “rioting over the rising cost of tortillas (thanks ethanol!),” Mexican is the average Absolut drinking Mexican. Absolut is not the cheapest brand of vodka available, and certainly not of alcohol. There are cheaper tequilas for the common man, as well as beer. I can’t imagine a lot of people here arguing the guy who takes the arduous journey across the border to make five bucks an hour to feed his family buys Absolut. Absolut was marketing to the upper middle class and the elites.Absolut, having spent time and research, came to find the elites of Mexico, that is those not “crossing the border for a better life,” believe a large portion of the United States is rightfully Mexico’s.Is anyone familiar with any level of racism in Mexico, say having to do with the percentage of Spanish blood one has, and how that may relate to income? (random amusing article. Feel free to look for yourself. It’s easy to verify.) For anyone who may be interested, economic status in Mexico is usually directly related to race, I believe.Meanwhile, it’s the obvious policy of Mexico at every level to encourage illegal immigration into the United States. The government has even printed cartoon guidebooks to help them along. Mexico’s previous President Fox said in a speech once in Spain regarding immigration, roughly, “Moreover, to continue speaking Spanish in the United States is to serve your country.” It’s a little more complicated than that, but that should do. Please note, he referred to the language as “castellano,” not “español.” It’s an important difference, as he was speaking in Spain, rather than to mere Mexicans. This all seems to combine to an obvious conclusion. The white elite of Mexico are pushing their poor lowly brown people across the border in the pursuit of the reconquest of what they see as their land. Absolut, in one simple ad, seems to have confirmed pretty clearly exactly what so many keep denying.Interesting stuff. Thanks Absolut.

Your right about the fact that these ads are not random or by accident. A lot of time, money and research goes into these ads.

I’m getting sick of these companies putting out what I would call “anti-gringo” ads which only further inflames the border and illegal immigration debate.

You put out ads to get attention. The company is simply gambling on what kind of attention.

This story is getting a lot of play. I heard a couple of news stories on this via the radio.

I don’t buy the brand anyway, Mrs. Snoop’s choice of vodka is Skyy anywho!
