Interesting about speaking out and societal suicide. I didn’t realize that.

I hope it works out for your daughter. My step-son is finally getting his act together. I’ll join your rant on that one, in his case it should be filed under, “dumb ass white people.”

One thing I’ve noticed about criminals is the immaturity. The idjits is brats. I’m all for sentencing until “Capable of behaving as a mature adult.” Type of crime of doesn’t matter, when you can act like a grown up you get out.

As to being denied one’s “blackness”. Back when I was growing up in the 50 and 60s the negroes of the day were up in arms not because whitey was denying them the right to be black, but because whitey refused to treat them as people. Whenever you have two populations living together the two will eventually merge unless the smaller one takes steps to keep themselves separate. The Jews do this, and they have developed positive traditions to keep their separation active. The Black community has traditions too, but negative traditions. From what I’ve seen, those who espouse the glories of “Blackness” do so in reaction to white stereotypes, and emphasize those behaviors that will reinforce those stereotypes. A case of, “I you’re going to call us lazy, then we’ll show you how lazy we can be.” It could well be a case of people accepting as true what their enemies say of them, and behaving in a manner that fits the invective.

Well, that was longer than I thought it would be. BTW, the next time your daughter is over for dinner do the dishes together afterwards. Even if you’ve got a dishwasher. It’ll give you a chance to talk. But keep it low key and calm. She is 20, and that’s nowhere near as mature as society likes to think it is.

Snoop already knows about this book, but for his new readers may I suggest you pick and read a copy of “black rednecks and white liberals”. This, and other books like it, trace some of what is now commonly thought of as “American Black culture” clear back to its origins. In the slums of 1800 England and Scotland. That’s right. The typical stereotypes (lack of personal responsiblity, slurred speech, lazy work habits, easily angered, etc.) are all behaviors taught and learned from white immigrants who owned or socialized with slaves.

A sense of community and belonging are great things. As long as I live, I will probably have a soft spot for a good German food fest - even though I have never personally visited the mother land. I still have some sentimental attachment to customs practiced by my grandparents. So that type of connection can be a good thing.

But behaviors or attitudes that keep a person (or people) from assimilating into the dominant society when its needed are behaviors and attitudes that prevent them from becoming sucessful and accepted.

If you want to be different, fine. But don’t expect that others will like or understand it. And please, if you adopt a particular culture as your own, know its origins. As a German American I am sure glad my family did not adopt ALL of that culture’s customs!

Over here in the white community - I’m talking StuffWhitePeopleLike whites, not Deliverance rednecks - the kids who don’t listen to their elders end up as Communists and Troofers. They don’t cause a lot of pregnancies but I daresay they make up for it in spreading STDs. They also seem to enjoy heaving cinderblocks into shop windows during “anti violence love ins”. They go to college - to take degrees in “International Studies” under Noam Chomsky (selling drugs would at least teach them economics). Speaking of drugs, they do almost as many as Keith Richards (hell, Richards is one of them) but daddy bails ‘em out (so the cops have to harass someone else to make quota - guess who?). Worst of all - they vote.

But yeah, this doesn’t seem to get talked about much in polite society - that the arrogance on display at StuffWhitePeopleLike does “get visited on the second generation”…

Brave blog, by the way. I’d even say it was a good blog except that Jeremiah Wright tells me I’m not allowed to. ;^)

Damn, you are a bad person. Dont you even feal a bit of sympathy for the 9 or 10 people you must have beaten the common sense out of and kept for yourself? I mean with common sense is such short a supply as it is, and here you are hording it like barrels of oil waiting for a gasoline crunch. You should be ashamed. Seriously, as a white boy, Im sure I do not totally understand why more blacks do not stand up like yourself and speak out against the community. But I work in an incrediably liberal environment, and as a staunch conservative, whenever I dare open my mouth to offer another view (a sane one) Its like the flood gates of New Orleans (levies) open and my words are crushed under 3 metric tonnes of stupid. When I do dare to reveal myself as a young white male conservative, it completely changes the way my compatriots at work treat me. I have one lady (with whom I thankfully do not have to work with regularly) who has not spoken to me since she found out that I (begrugingly) voted for George Bush. I strongly believe in the will of the people, but certain people in large groups are very, very dangerous.

Don’t give up all hope. My own daughter has done some things and made some choices that I would not have made for her, she ended up with 2 kids and no education.
She sucked it up and asked me if I would take her in, then she went to school and got her GED. Then she moved out and went to college, full time, while working 2 jobs and keeping her kids. She’s a good mother, BTW. She did it by sacrifice and losing a lot of sleep.
Of course she says she has no talent.
I wrote about her on my blog, she’s an inspiration to me and I’m very proud of her.
So, like I said, don’t give up hope.
And try not to smirk when she says “Dad, you were right and I should have listened to you.”
It doesn’t help. Really.
