I knew all that before hand, but you said nothing about Obama EXCEPT you reject his message of hope. If you've consigned yourself to cynical politics so be it. I can't say that I'm not also cynical. If you want a goddamn idiot in office, it's your vote, go and get 'im. But the fact of the matter is, if you genuinely believe that the president is nothing more than a figure head, that he is a symbol, an icon for the nation, a fucking doll meant for nothing more than adorning the oval office--then STILL you're missing an opportunity. Yes because he's black, yes because he is the descendant of an immigrant, yes because he has been engaged in social work, etc. and etc--these types of facts can change the very nature of foreign policy. I completely understand shunning savior figures, but you have two contradicting perspectives here--your fundamental opinion of the role of the president, and your overall expectations of the president. If you want a figurehead, fucking get some. But if you get a little extra, don't be mad. I'm not about to begin to choke down the idiocy of some political mannequin; some self-righteous moron who can't see past his red tie. I understand that you're ultimate goal is to avoid the potential energies of the dedicated, but don't forget that the "radical Right" is plenty dedicated--to the dumbest shit on Earth. The "radical Right" gave birth to Reaganomics, the "radical Right" fucked around and landed us in Iraq, the "radical Right" believe in the absurdity of "trickle-down economics" as if when my boss gets a fat bonus he's ever gonna think of giving me a nickel. No sir, I am no nigga--history continually proves that the president is not some action figure "with the kung-fu grip." The president, for all the bs he has the potential to spew, equally has the power to fuck some serious shit up. And when that same president is in command of one of the most influential nations on Earth--and the most technologically advanced and well equipped militaries--I can't help but give due respect to the role. Your perspective could land us with Nero or Caligula. My perspective has the potential to land us with Socrates or Confucius--not to suggest that Socrates was a political leader. Your response says to me that you are afraid of having a leader that is smarter than you--and rightly so, I mean, Hitler was no moron--but that just means that you, being the "independent thinking, beat of thy own drummer cranky ranting fuck" that you profess to be need to keep on your toes. Literally speaking, your problem is not with Obama, but with his potential--positive and negative. It sounds as though you would rather have America move gradually--positive or negative--because it makes YOU feel as though YOU have a greater amount of control over the state of the nation. But a gradual negative adds up--especially when its on the level of this last 8 years. Just like Reaganomics added up, and here we stand. Hell, poke and prod and "finger wag" the black community all you want. I'll thank you for it, sometimes (lately, pretty often) we need it. (I can't stand the absurdity that is "Flava of Love" either.) But please, please, please, keep the cynicism out of the voting booth.

Oh, and one more thing: You know damn well that Obama's speech is reminiscent of MLK. I don't even know why you invoked that man's memory. I could go all day making parallels between MLK and Obama AND MLK and Reverend Wright (rev. wright only if I were in the same country as all of my books containing his speeches, America really does try to promote some mythology about MLK--and his more radical comments have been pushed into online obscurity but I've referenced them here before, and so have you). You only wrote that to frustrate me, man.

Snoop - I love your rants! One of the things that really bothers me about Obama's candidacy is the insinuation that if you don't like him, you must be a racist, and if we don't vote for him for President, then the USA is a racist country. I feel like he is trying to guilt Americans into voting for him.

Oh, and another thing - when Obama speaks, he sounds like a black preacher, there is a certain cadence and tone in his written speeches. I don't like that I don't think our president should preach at us from the pulpit.

I'm with you, I want the Congress and president to do as little as possible. That is why partisan politics is so great. I don't know why anyone thinks it is a good idea for both parties to just get along.

If the republicans and democrats joined forces, they would just take more of our hard-earned money for their little projects - from a museum celebrating the drug culture at Woodstock, to a bridge to nowhere in Alaska - and they do it so they can get re-elected by us.

Keep ranting, Snoop!
