Thompson Watch

As y’all know I’m a BIG Thompson supporter with a personal connection to the campaign.
I have a good vibe about him and I do believe he will make a fine Prez.
BUT…BUT this debate today is an important one, and I have to be honest it will be the first debate I will watch in total, not because any of the previous candidates are going to say anything worth a damm, but Thompson has to kick ass, he needs to bitch slap these other worthless candidates.
I am still pissed that losers like Brownback and Paul are participating it is a waist of time and energy to have to listen to them.
Paul should just drop out of these debates and run as a Libertarian candidate, shit he is raising the money and his crazy supporters are rabid enough to make him an effective vote stealer. Frankly, the fact that he says he will NOT run as a Libertarian shows me he is not as serious on the core issues that fires up his supporters as he says he is.

Anywho, Thompson must have a superior showing or else he may be doomed.
I may be wrong, (I DOUBT IT, I’M RARELY WRONG ON SUCH THINGS) I called on his candidacy long before rumors of it started flowing, a strong showing can all but eliminate Romney and McCain. As far as I’m concerned it’s between Rudy, Fred and Mike. YES MIKE.
A weak or lethargic performance by Thompson, will just cause more tumult within the GOP ranks.

I hope his campaign staff has him ready, I hope he is ready.
I’ll take aspirin or I will have a Long Island at lunch in order to deal with Chris Matthews irritating voice.

Here is what others are posting on Fred:

GOP Vixen

Fred Thompson — who starred with Albert Brooks in “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World,” above — seems to have little trouble commanding the screen, but is having a few more problems commanding a campaign trail. He’s described as “low-key” on the campaign trail, but you can be too low-key — aka boring. I basically felt all the excitement over a Thompson candidate fizzle even before he officially announced he was running, when Thompson said, “I’ve never craved the job of president, but I want to do some things that only a president can do.” That just translated into really not giving a hoot. Or someone who wants power without a whole lotta responsibility. Or someone who’s just, well, boring. more

My problem with Fred Thompson is that I think he has been overhyped. He’s someone I wanted to like - I really did. And I don’t use past tense to suggest I never will like him, but at this stage in the game I don’t see him as presidential material, and I say that as someone who hasn’t warmed up to Romney or Rudy, either, although Romney initially sounded appealing. I’m still in the undecided camp.Thompson’s nice enough and I do believe he is bonafide conservative, but what he offers in speech after speech and interview after interview is little more than platitudes without specifics. On Blogs for Thompson, live blogger conference call with Fred Thompson’s campaign manager, Bill Lacy

Lacy, speaking for himself, believes that the Republican Party is at a crossroads, and Thompson believes in taking in a “Goldwater direction,” with emphasis on government reform. He has done a number of mock debates and a lot of prep. He said that he learned in 1994 that one good thing about Thompson is that he was a very successful trial lawyer and knows how to prepare himself for debates.

Lacy doesn’t see him directly going after Giuliani or Romney tonight. It’s going to be focused on defining him, and may not be a time to throw darts.
