Al Sharpton: Black Voters Should Punish GOP
(From Newsmax) Civil rights leader Al Sharpton said Thursday black voters should punish Republicans who fail to show for presidential candidates’ forums hosted by the National Urban League and the NAACP.”We can only assume you weren’t courting us,” Sharpton said. “Republicans have to lay out their policies and court the African-American vote. We need to have our interests debated in the market place.”
Sharpton noted there won’t be another NAACP or Urban League conference before the presidential primaries.
“When I was in high school, I may not have gone to the prom with the girl I wanted, but with the girl I could get,” he said, suggesting Republicans leave black voters little choice but to vote for a Democrat.
Sharpton was among a panel of black leaders, political strategists from both major parties and journalists who discussed the black vote in the 2008 presidential election at the Urban League’s national conference here.
Five presidential candidates - four Democrats and one Republican - are scheduled to address the conference Friday. Among them are top-tier Democrats Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, and John Edwards. The lone Republican is Rep. Duncan Hunter of California.
Earlier this month, all eight Democratic candidates participated in a forum at the NAACP meeting in Detroit. The only Republican was Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a long-shot candidate.
Shannon Reeves, director of state and local development for the Republican National Committee, said his role in the RNC was to get them to understand the black community.
“There are some in our party who don’t want to associate with our community,” he said to groans from the crowd. He added that “black folks had to kick the door open. The Democratic Party didn’t open it wide and say come on in.”
Urban League president Marc Morial said black voters deserve more than “drive-by politics and last-minute appeals to churches.” But, he admitted, “sometimes we aren’t good about getting out to vote.” He said no candidate has talked about black economic development, which is the civil rights organization’s major thrust.
(Snooprant:) I don’t know if white folks truly understand the dilemma black individuals like me are in when it comes to being on the polar opposite sides of the societal and political fence with those with whom you share similar pigmentation.
Now those of you white people who insist on baking yourselves in the sun or the “Easy Bake human oven” to achieve the ultimate Negro tan, you don’t count.
We all know that 90 percent of Negros vote Democrat. No P.R. firm could ever turn that around for Republicans and frankly I am resigned that I won’t see that change in my lifetime.
Democrats invest heavily in the Negro vote, because they absolutely know they can’t win without it.
So when do black folks like me say to themselves “ ya know fuck em, those stupid Negros deserve what they get for following these idiot ass niggas like Sharpton.”
As a black individual it is difficult to stray from that identity that is defined by your skin color.
Because of where I live 24/7 I’m inundated by white people. Here in the Midwest you can go a week and not see any black folks.
Some may argue well people are people, but when you are white, everyone you see, everywhere you go, every social situation, ever work situation YOU see people and not white people.
We see both, not in all cases, hell I’m not obsessive about it, but you do think about it.
What makes it more prevalent is when you enter social situations white people unconsciously let you know how they feel about someone of another color invading their territory.
I know it sounds nuts folks but most of us black folks process this shit. SO when we go to a community where there are actually black people participating in world around you, there is some comfort that comes with that.
We can’t help that.
While in Maryland a few months ago, Mrs. Snoop and I went to visit a good friend of mind. It was cool to see upscale black folks, looking nice, not ghettoized, driving nice cars not acting a fool. There, yes it felt comfortable to me. Now Mrs. Snoop on the other hand, well, the roles were reversed, proving we all (or most of us) have that “racial” chip on our shoulders.
NOW, with ole Snoop that is easily erased when I see ghetto ass Negros with busted weaves, saggy paints, gold grills and 1980’s perms.
While in LA, Mrs. Snoop and I went to this neighborhood grocery story around the corner from our hotel to get a salad.
I was at the food bar when this black dude came around the corner and said “whoa a brotha in the hood, right on!” I turned around and said “you too” basically as if to say hell I’m as shocked to see you and you are me.
On occasion in the white world if you see another black person you give them the extra kinship nod for extra recognition that whew, if a riot breaks out I got one brotha on my side. LOL!
So it is sometimes painful to see the damage that corrupt Niggas like Sharpton, Jackson and other liberal Democrat scam artists inflict on the black community and it is even more painful to see that it is all self inflicted because Negros can’t get of the Democrat plantation, most are conditioned to think in very narrow terms. We are not still in the 1960’s.
“Republicans are racist,” you mean less so that Democrats!? It’s just silly.
It’s painful because even as Conservative and as unapologetic I am about my politics you can’t just say “fuck em”, because like it or not you are identified with the very people you criticize.
Bottom line, no matter how Republican I am, no matter my knowledge of Reagan politics and Conservatism, whether I listen to Rush or agree with Newt to some white folks I’m still just a nigger. They don’t give a fuck about your politics, social status, or place of employment.
So because of that you cling to that racial or I mean (hey there’s another Negro) recognition thing.
So black folks like myself are stuck in “neither-world” we are on occasion confused about balancing racial identity vs. political and social reality.

i’ve learned alot about this whole ‘race’ thing from reading your blog. As a white dude, so much of it just confuses the crap out of me. I don’t get the concept of ‘black leaders’ and ‘black history’. I was always like, we all have the same leaders, and our history is our history no matter what color you are - that shit happened whether you were white or black or dead or whatever. Same with this Sharpton crap - wtf is the ‘African American vote’??? Dont black folks want the same thing I do? Don’t they want a good life? Is the basic need of a person different if you’re white? Or black? Or whatever else? Whatever perceived difference has GOT to be because of assholes like Sharpton. I’ll see this jagoff on TV and I cannot BELIEVE what I hear him say. I refuse to believe that he speaks for anyone…who the hell would listen to this idiot? Republicans don’t freaking hate black folks… WTF? I don’t get why conservatives are ‘assholes’ b/c they want you to be responsible for yourself.

Oh Hans, I am SURE there are Republicans who “Hate” black folks. Racism creeps up in the darndest places and people. But it really has less to do with political affiliations (IMO) then it does with a person’s (a) core value sysetm and (b) lack of information.
Anyone who is racist is (a) courting evil and (b) being stupid (most of the time).
There iusually an ecomomic (read greed) motive attached to a lot of decisions that are decried as racist. However, there’s also some classism and just plain old fear when it comes to understanding someone who may look (or act) or even BE different from you.
Most hard core conservatives KNOW that race based governmental policies not only fail 9 times out of 10, but often have (at their core) an element of paternalistic condensension that is offensive to anyone playing attention; “You poor poor people….Here let me “help you” all to often really means (or becomes) “You are not smart enough or good enough to help your own darn self!
As far s me not counting…. I think that’s a good thing. I have long been very comfortable in my skin - but also very comfortable with people who do not look like me. I just wish more people would try to keep an open mind when it comes to meeting a specific new person for the first time. I rarely make assumptions based upon looks alone!

Hans I STRONGLY recommend you read a book by Thomas Sowell called “Black Rednecks and White liberals.
To understand my politics read anything by Thomas Sowell.
But frankly all black people need to read his book, without going into a lot of detail seriously get a copy of his book and you will understand the politics of black folks real well.
I was turned on to Sowell by Rush back when I first listened to his radio show in Sacramento before he went national (August 1, will be 19 years) I have been listening to him for a bit longer than that.
But Sowell gets it and cuts through the bullshit, some may argue but I think and Rush said long ago and I agree that Sowell is the greatest conservative “thinker.” not some hack columnist or fake ass political “insider.” I did not get my conservatism from him but he made me understand it better.
Black intellectual types HATE him because he exposed their crap, which is why except for Townhall.com you never hear about him.
If Sowell were mainstream and the black and white liberal establishment would be turned upside down.
You asked: “wtf is the ‘African American vote’??? Dont black folks want the same thing I do? Don’t they want a good life? Is the basic need of a person different if you’re white? Or black? Or whatever else?”
Sure they do, but in order for Democrats to maintain power they have to have an enemy, a nemesis. In order for blacks to succeed some white person must die, or suffer or be hurt or ridiculed or be told they are racist and evil.
“Black leaders” are created in the minds of black folks because they are constantly searching for the next Martin Luther King, totally ignoring the fact the MLK was a leader of ALL people not just black people.
People like Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan are good at manipulating “the flock” fucken sheep!
In order for them to maintain their bogus celebrity status they must deliver votes to Democrats at all cost, unfortunately to the detriment of blacks themselves.
Delivering those votes don’t involve assessing what is “good” for people or black people, it’s what can we wrestle from whitey, i.e. slavery reparations. Scamming for votes is a business and people from Sharpton to big name rappers, black comedians entertainers, small time Negro politicians and black intellectuals are all in it together.
Hence you get black folks voting 90 plus percent for one political party.
Do you actually think 90 percent of any group thinks the same on any issue? Of course not.
No other racial or ethnic group votes in that large of a majority for either party, it’s not logical.
Sorry for the rant, but bottom line is this, black folks generally are conservative in nature, most black folks “in private” will say they oppose abortion, are pro national defense, anti-illegal immigration, want school choice, they want their neighborhoods safe, know damm well we don’t deserve reparations (but shit if you white people want to send me a check I’ll take it!) and they sure as hell don’t trust the GUBMENT.
So how do you get where 90 PERCENT of Negros votes opposite of their true leanings on issues? Because they have been “programmed” to believe that Republicans are racist, and to pay no attention to them if an (R) is after his/her name, no matter how much sense they make.
Let’s get real, ya think black folks don’t like tax cuts?
I come up to a brotha on the street and I say “hey I’m the prez and I’m a Republican, ya know what, fuck it, I’m gonna give you some money,” because frankly you deserve it, but more than that it was your money in the first place! Fucken Democrats want to take that money I gave you and spend it themselves, on shit that has nothing to do with you.”
Now what do you think the brotha on the street is gonna say when you put it that way!?
Fuck a Democrat, gimmie my money!

Man, that was great. I really appreciate the input. I’m going to look into reading this book cuz…I gotta say…this is one of those things that I really want to understand. Thanks for the tip! And love the rant as always…very funny - ‘gimme my money!’

What this country is suffering is a corruption of ideas. Conservatism, Liberalism, racism, have all become soundbite fodder in a pissing contest for nielsons or click-throughs or what the fuck ever latest media traffic measure will come along in the next six months.
PS - This town is the whitest place I have ever lived in. It’s kind of creepy if you’re not used to it, and I’m not used to it.
PPSS - Mrs. Snoop has a quality that looks like, but goes beyond, naivete. She expects the best from people, and is always surprised at anything less. I admire that, although I can’t imagine ever being that way.
July 30th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Just wanted to let you know that I took your suggestion and ordered that book on Amazon.com. Thomas Sowell seems to be a pretty accomplished guy - I’ve been reading up on him and I’m very much looking forward to reading this book. Thanks, Snoop!
Will contact you w/ commentary when I get through the book or to bounce some ideas/questions off of you.
July 30th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I may scan through it again between these books I;m reading now, I’ll look forward to hearing your comments on it.
I think every young black person should read this book, not that they should agree with all that is in it, but we really need to be exposing young black youth to a different way of thinking. As long as they follow poverty pimps, black folks are fucked.
If you check out folks like Walter Williams, Shelby Steele, John McWhorter you will get a completely different take on politics from a black persons perspective that what most folk are use to hearing.
My point being we all don’t think alike, but liberal Democrats want you to believe that we do. But then again 90 percent of black folks vote Democrat, so they must be right.

twodots: “She expects the best from people”
I love her for that cause I sure as hell don’t.
I generally think all people are fucked up until proven otherwise. LOL!
