Commenter response: my “sensationalistic” post about Mormons
Mormon Church in Oakland
Here was a response to an earlier post entitled:Can a Mormon be president? Is this a trick question?
lol. I just randomly stumbled upon this while searching for a statistic.
A wonderfully sensationalistic post.
Among other things, you forget that one of the reasons the mormons were so hated was BECAUSE of abolition. They were abolitionists, and harrassed and killed because of it.
The writings of bruce r mcconkie have nothing to do with church doctrine, or belief, and he was severely chastised for his bigotted statements. Ezra Taft Benson was referring to something that had nothing to do with race, but the socialistic/communistic agenda of martin luther king and friends. Take a look at his real history. His communist ties are irrefuteable.
Anything found in the journal of the discourses, is NOT doctrine, and is compiled from various notes and manuscripts from different sources.
Blacks were not able to hold the priesthood in the church for a period of time, for a whole different set of reasons none of which dealt directly with racism in the sense that the media throws the term around.
The quotations from the book of mormon you listed have -nothing-, I repeat -nothing- to do with race or skin color, and never have. You are obviously ignorant of the traditional hebrew symbolic speech along those lines. Where fair, and white is equated with clean, and dark and black was equated with dirt and corruption. Having NOTHING to do with race.
You’re perpetuating the same sensational misinformation and lies which led to the slaughter of mormons in the 1800’s. Now, you’re just attacking from the other side of the argument.
My response..
Let’s get real I have enough insight to understand that we, humans are creatures of habit and great limitations. Throughout history many atrocities have been committed by men towards other men, it is unfortunately in our nature to be destructive, harbor hatred and ignorance. Racism bigotry and hatred were cool back in the day.
Lot of people that are racist, will continue to be racist and will most likely teach their children to be racist.
Folks who come to this site I guess think that my reason for this site is to spread propaganda. I may be ignorant too much of what Mormonism stands for I still cater to the notion that where there is smoke, there is fire.
So as a black man, from my past experiences and reading, this blog is about my opinions, my experiences, and my take on the world.
Folks Google the phrase “are Mormons racist” or “Mormon racism”, “blacks and Mormons” whatever. There are tons of texts on the subject; I have read a great deal of it.
There are far more writing on the subject now than there were while I was in high school of course thanks to the internet. Today, being a racist bastard is not as fashionable as it use to be and now that a Mormon is running for president Mormons are now shouting WE LIKED DARKIES ALL ALONG, WE WERE JUST MISUNDERSTOOD! Plez.
I was part of a study group while in high school where we studied other religious philosophies. I was somewhat interested in the Mormon Church because of the big shiny building on the hill in Oakland.
All of the same crap I’m reading today, I read and heard about as a kid however you did not have nearly as many apologists then as you do now for all of the crap that was said by Mormon leaders. So I did not pull it out of my ass.
I will concede, while I posted the stuff about Mormons, I am under no delusion; all religions and churches have the stench of separatism and racism. It’s what gives atheists then main fuel for their fight against Christianity and it’s a legitimate beef.
Darkies worship with darkies and whites worship with whites. Mormons are no different. No society that continues to worship “separate” can claim the notion of a tolerant society.
The thing about Mormons was they just were not shy about voicing their disdain for darkies.
I’m sure there are many white Mormons that are truthfully against racism and discrimination but few chose to opposed their racists’ counterparts back in the day.
Nephi 12:23
“And I beheld, after they had dwindled in unbelief they became a dark and loathsome and a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations.”
Oh pay no attention to that, they were just kidding, we love darkies, no, really we do!

I’d almost laugh if that statement wasn’t so good at proving your point.
And assuming abolitionists weren’t racist is like saying blacks can’t be racist.
