His arrogance is astouding. Not only does he brazenly threaten to stop all local spending in any district of any congressman who challenges him, he refuses to even comment on the scandal.
He’s John Murtha — he was a Marine. He doesn’t have to explain himself to the public.
The CNN story concludes, “The Democrats promised reform, and it’s not happening.”
That seems to understate it. It seems to be far worse.
I first read the name “Carol Swain” while scanning a 2004 Boston Globe column by Cathy Young, who’d written about a panel discussion that took place around the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education – the Supreme Court case that outlawed government-mandated racial segregation in government schools.
Swain, a professor at Vanderbilt University Law School, talked about subcultural factors that impede the academic progress of black students, such as a lack of parental involvement in schools, the “acting white” phenomenon, and lowered standards and expectations. Quoting Swain, Young wrote that these factors “created a negative incentive structure for African-Americans who have either internalized societal messages about inferiority or have chosen an easier path of not exerting themselves too vigorously.”
While Swain probably wouldn’t describe herself as politically conservative, her ideas certainly are atypical of many liberals. She’s written about the negative effects of illegal immigration on low-income black Americans and the Congressional Black Caucus’s (CBC) stunning silence on the issue.
Because the CBC has “elected to organize as a racial caucus,” Swain wrote in a Washington Times op-ed, members have “placed upon themselves the obligation to represent the interests of the millions of black constituents who have faithfully and repeatedly sent them to Washington.”
Swain cites statistics that show the national unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in April 2007. For Hispanics, it was 5.4 percent. For blacks, 8.2 percent. For black men, the rate of unemployment was 9.7 percent.
Swain accused the race-centric, taxpayer-supported caucus of turning a blind eye on a mounting pile of data that reveals illegal immigration is harming low-income, low-skilled black Americans. In a new book of essays, Debating Immigration, Swain contends that lax enforcement of immigration law helps businesses hire wage-suppressing illegal aliens at the expense of citizens.
But the CBC couldn’t care less. The group hasn’t listed immigration reform as a legislative priority, according to Swain, and it mentioned illegal immigration in only one press release out of close to 100 on the web site. Instead of focusing on the well-being of constituents, the CBC is forming a black-brown coalition with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to “create a task force to study immigration issues and provide information about the impact of immigration reform on the black and Hispanic communities,” according to The Hill.
The CBC’s lower-income constituents don’t need a task force to “provide information” on illegal immigration’s “impact” on them. They live it. A national black-brown coalition is nothing more than an excuse to waste even more tax money studying the obvious. And it’s all for show, anyway. Hispanics are just as race-conscious as blacks, and they have no interest in forming a meaningful partnership with another racial minority.
Speaking of which, one government policy affected by the surge of illegal aliens is race preferences, purportedly put in place to make amends for slavery and Jim Crow. Hispanics are benefiting from this odious policy, and Swain scoffs at historical comparisons between Hispanics and blacks. “Most illegal immigrants have willingly left their homelands to seek their fortunes in a more prosperous nation. They were not brought in chains,” she said.
The battle between blacks and Hispanics for preferred minority group status is only beginning. But blacks don’t need to look to pencil-pushing politicians to “lead” them on this issue. All that is required is common sense and the will to demand that elected officials support immigration law enforcement and oppose any bill that grants the blessing of American citizenship on people who have no regard for this country’s laws.
Americans — at least really stupid Americans like George Bush — believe the natural state of the world is to have individual self-determination, human rights, the rule of law and a robust democratic economy. On this view, most of the existing world and almost all of world history is a freakish aberration.
In fact, the natural state of the world is Darfur. The freakish aberration is America and the rest of the Anglo-Saxon world.
The British Empire once spread the culture of prosperity around the globe — Judeo-Christian values, tolerance, equality, private property and the rule of law. All recipients of the British Empire’s largesse benefited, but the empire’s most successful colony was the United States.
At the precise moment in history when the U.S. has abandoned any attempt to transmit Anglo-Saxon virtues to its own citizens, much less to immigrants, George Bush wants to grant citizenship to hordes of immigrants who are here precisely because they are fleeing cultures that are utterly dysfunctional and ruinous for the humans who live in them.
Yes, this country has absorbed huge migrations of illiterate peasants in the past — notably Italian immigrants at the turn of the last century. But also notably, half of them went back. We got the good ones. America was not yet a welfare state guaranteeing room and board to the luckless, the lazy and the incompetent from cradle to grave.
FBI officials are reporting that violent crime is still on the rise. Youth violence, gangs and gun crimes are largely to blame. In the first six months of 2006, violent crime rose 3.7 percent nationwide.
Now, wouldn’t you like to own a gun in self-defense?
But wait! There’s more! In a study done in summer of 2006, illegal aliens—or should I say criminals — were linked to the rise in criminal activity in our country. Now … get this: There is an average of 8 arrests per incarcerated illegal alien in this country. And these aren’t just first offenders. Almost every single last one of them already had more than one arrest. And they are committing more than just one offense when arrested. You can average about 13 offenses per illegal alien. And then once they are arrested, American tax dollars are footing the bill for their incarceration. I am paying to house a criminal that isn’t even a citizen of this country.
OK … so you read that last paragraph, and you said: “No way Boortz. You’re wrong. Either you’re lying or you just misread the research.” OK .. you have a few choices here. You can click on this link. It’s an article written by Jim Kouri, a vice-president of the National Association of Chiefs of Police. Or you can just read this paragraph I lifted out of his article:
In the population study of a sample of 55,322 (incarcerated) illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990.
Seal the borders. Get crime under control. Don’t grant amnesty to million of criminals, many of which are contributing to the rise in violent crime in this nation.

(Story Link) BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder Valley School employees who were involved in a school assembly where sex and drugs were encouraged have received verbal reprimands, the district superintendent said Wednesday.
Dr. George Garcia, superintendent of Boulder Valley School District, said he now agrees that mistakes were made at a Conference on World Affairs panel held at Boulder High School on April 10, 2007.
“I am going to encourage you to have sex and encourage you to use drugs appropriately,” said clinical psychologist Joel Becker at the conference.
The topic of the conference was titled “STDs: Sex, Teens and Drugs.” There was no talk of abstinence in the 90-minute presentation, with panelists assuming students were already using drugs and having sex.

Here’s a fascinating story. This is out of Mexico City. “One man jumped to his death from a moving railway car and a boy had his leg cut off by the train’s wheels today as Mexican agents staged a sweep of undocumented migrants who had hopped the freight train in southern Mexico. The train is on a route heavily traveled by Central Americans heading north across Mexico in a bid to reach the United States. Honduran migrant Luis Carlos Hernandez, 14, said he jumped from the train to avoid capture by law enforcement agents who had climbed aboard the convoy, but fell under the wheels and lost his right leg. ‘We were all on top of the train, when the police began chasing us,’ Hernandez said from his hospital bed in the Gulf coast port city of Veracruz. ‘A lot of us began to jump off the cars.’ An unidentified man jumped off the car but fell on the tracks, where the wheels of the train decapitated him, said Juan Luis Trujillo, a spokesman for the National Immigration Institute in Veracruz state.”
The Mexicans, you dare to venture in their country, and they’ll have trains run over you! They don’t care. They will do whatever it takes to get you out of the country. “Agents detained 133 migrants, all Central Americans…” Do the Mexicans not care that these are future voters? Do the libs in Mexico have no interest in this? “Some of the detainees have already been sent back to their countries of origin, and others will be repatriated on Tuesday, Trujillo said.” Like that, folks. Like that, they are gone. They are out of there.
Report: Fred Thompson To Launch “Testing The Waters” Committee Ryan Sager reports that Fred Thompson will officially launch a Presidential committee early next week, possibly as soon as this Sunday. Sources close to Thompson characterize it as a “testing the waters” committee, one step short of an exploratory committee — it will allow Thompson to raise money and hire staff, but he will not yet be able to advertise, publicly refer to himself as a candidate, raise money that could be transferred to other candidates, or raise money to get on state ballots.
Thompson To Officially Declare On July 4
Meanwhile, The Politico reports that Thompson will officially declare his candidacy on July 4, and also announce “that he has already raised several million dollars and is being backed by insiders from the past three Republican administrations.” And as for what his actual campaign will be like, his old red pickup truck gimmick that he bought for his 1994 Senate race will be making a comeback.
Just talked to a Thompson source I’ll call “TA3″ (Thompson Associate 3). Much more coming shortly, but the first word was, there will not be a presidential announcement from Fred Thompson on July 4.
TA3: “There will be no July 4 announcement… There was some discussion of a June 4 beginning of fundraising; that’s the date checks will be collected. I suspect that’s where there was some confusion.”
The forthcoming announcement will be that Thompson is “testing the waters.” While Thompson is in that not-quite-announced-candidate stage, he will be able to complete previously commmitted paid appearances and speeches and continue work his work on ABC radio and filling in for Paul Harvey. He is not lining up additional paid speeches or appearances.
The United States government is on the verge of approving a mass amnesty to millions of illegal aliens — a plan pushed aggressively by meddling Mexican officials who reap billions of dollars in remittances (illegal aliens’ earnings sent back to Mexico) without having to lift a finger to clean up their own country.
And the thanks we get? Internationally televised public humiliation.
On Monday night, the beautiful young woman who represented America in the Miss Universe pageant was booed and mocked as she competed on stage in Mexico City. Rachel Smith, 22, did her best to respond with grace and dignity during the Top Five finalists’ interview segment as the audience disrupted the event.

Smith soldiered through her answer, describing an educational trip to South Africa. Catcalls and whistles nearly drowned out Smith’s reply until she wrapped up with “Buenos noches, Mexico.”
I wouldn’t have been so polite.
None of Miss USA’s fellow Americans participating in the interview segment — neither Minnillo, nor macho co-host Mario Lopez, nor the dashing Romo — came to Smith’s defense. Instead, Minnillo pleaded briefly with the unruly mob: “Okay, una momento, por favor .” Lopez stood mute with a dumb grin on his dimpled face. Pathetic.
In fact, Smith was subjected to anti-American hatred throughout the week-long event. Last week, during the contestants’ national costume fashion show, Smith smiled bravely as a rowdy outdoor crowd hissed and booed at her. According to pageant observers, no other contestants received such treatment.
Pitifully, Donald Trump and his Miss Universe officials are downplaying Smith’s experience — ignoring the fact that the last time the pageant was held in Mexico, Miss USA was abused in similar fashion. 1993 Miss USA Kenya Moore was infamously heckled when chosen for the semi-finals that year.

Newsbusters is all over it. It’s not clear what the overarching reason is: the preamble laments Hasselbeck’s dangerously inaccurate war propaganda — ahem, ahem — but also makes a point of noting her penchant for committing the worst of sins in the “View” catechism, being a bad friend.

We should immediately stop holding pageants, NFL football games, MLB games NASCAR anything “American” in Mexico.

Professors outside the arts at major research universities are supposed to have Ph.D.s. The phantom Ward Churchill does not. How he was hired, promoted, and tenured without a doctorate is a mystery — the equivalent of a high-school teacher credentialed with an AA degree, or a medical doctor operating without an M.D.
Ward Churchill proclaimed that he is a Native American of various tribal affiliations; he is not. Even his ridiculous costumes, occasional threats, and puerile rants cannot disguise that fact.

Facts, not nativism, account for conservative opposition to the Senate’s immigration bill.
To observe the sentimental fantasy and ruthless political calculation that fuels the Bush administration’s immigration plans, one need only turn to Michael Gerson’s most recent Washington Post column. Former Bush speechwriter Gerson was a powerful voice in the White House, especially on the matter of injecting faith into policymaking; his May 25 column provides a window into how the administration deals with facts.
Gerson accuses opponents of the Senate’s recent amnesty proposal of a nativist fear of illegal immigrants. Such a fear, he argues, will hurt the Republican party’s electoral chances and miss an opportunity to make the country even more religious. MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it’s time to replace an “on your own” society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.
The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an “ownership society” really is an “on your own” society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.
“I prefer a ‘we’re all in it together’ society,” she said. “I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none.”
That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.
“There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed,” she said. “Fairness doesn’t just happen. It requires the right government policies.”
Clinton spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.
“We have sent a message to our young people that if you don’t go to college … that you’re thought less of in America. We have to stop this,” she said. “Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school.”
Beyond education, Clinton said she would reduce special breaks for corporations, eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and open up CEO pay to greater public scrutiny.
Clinton also said she would help people save more money by expanding and simplifying the earned income tax credit; create new jobs by pursuing energy independence; and ensure that every American has affordable health insurance.
Democratic Party, the ‘Party of Women,’ Says Martha Burk

(CNSNews.com) - Women’s rights activist Martha Burk is urging presidential candidates to pay attention to women, who she said will decide the 2008 presidential election.
Burk is best known for having failed several years ago to force the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, site of the Masters tournament, to extend membership to women. At the time, she chaired the National Council of Women’s Organizations. Today, she is part of the presidential campaign team of New Mexico Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson.
“Today, women are the majority … women are the majority of voters, those that are registered and those that actually show up at the polls,” Burk said at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. “Women can control any election. Women have different priorities from men, and it does make a difference in who gets elected and in public policy.”

“All of the Democratic candidates are better than any of the Republican candidates for women,” she said. “The Republican Party has steadily - for the last 20 or 25 years - become more and more a party of men. The Democratic Party is becoming more and more a party of women.”
But Kellyanne Conway, president of the conservative Polling Company, said “Women were a majority for the last 10 presidential elections, only three of which were won by Democrats.”
“Women were a majority of the electorate when Richard Nixon was elected and re-elected, when Ronald Reagan was elected and re-elected, when George Herbert Walker Bush was elected, when George W. Bush was elected and re-elected and when the Republicans took over the Congress and a majority of the governorships and state legislatures in 1994 and continued to do so until last year,” she told Cybercast News Service.
“With the exception of [former vice presidential nominee] Geraldine Ferrarro [in 1984], the Democrats have run nothing but white men for president, forever,” Conway said.
“The Democratic Party had a historic opportunity in 2004 to elect the first woman and the first black American president, but they left Carol Moseley-Braun - a former ambassador and a former senator - off the debate stage. They dismissed her as foolish and controversial.”
“In the 18th Century, England could send its ne’er-do-wells to Australia. It was a viable option to the death penalty. My variation on that is simple: send them to Antarctica. Send them there with a parka, a tent, a sleeping bag, and a week’s worth of MRE’s [meal, ready to eat]. They can kill each other for food for all I care, and their life (or death) is up to them and their own survival skills…Couldn’t happen soon enough in my opinion.”

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t advocate the death penalty for animals who rape children.
“We can’t do that,” people would say. “If a man can be put to death for raping someone, what’s to stop him from going ahead and killing the person if he’ll get the same penalty?”
I can see the logic. Sentencing a rapist to death certainly seems disproportionate to the crime of rape, but I’m willing to suspend logic when it comes to the violation of children. I hope capital punishment for child rape becomes law in all states.
