Bloomberg Pushes Rangel for 2008

– said he would like to see Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., toss his hat into the presidential ring.

Speaking at a church in Harlem on what would have been the 78th birthday of Martin Luther King, Bloomberg referred to several potential presidential candidates and added: “My personal favorite, the person that I am going to endorse if he chooses to run as a New Yorker, is Congressman Rangel.”

Rangel campaigned in the Democratic primaries in 2004, and recently became chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

Said Bloomberg: “I think Congressman Rangel would be a great president.”
