Well, they’re at it again. It’s 2006, and this country’s longtime fascination with the very public denigration of black American men continues, undaunted. The usual suspects, namely noted black psychologists, (BLOGGERS LIKE SNOOP) sociologists, journalists trying valiantly to make names for themselves and now even black Hollywood celebrities like Bill Cosby, daytime television’s “Judge Mathis,” Les Brown and others are all front and center, steadily beating the drum of impending black male doom.

Interestingly, these highbrow personalities and others now find themselves in virtual lock-step with lower-profile grassroots activists, manning the TV and radio airwaves, and saying whatever they have to about black men to keep their names in bold headlines. In eerie unison, they speak authoritatively, and are being quoted extensively predicting black men’s imminent demise. The tired, repetitive “scholarly statistics” as usual are being weighted against us, while newspaper columnists, black and white, are all but writing our final chapter. Even The New York Times has weighed in this time, backed by “research” from prestigious Ivy League institutions including Harvard, Columbia and Princeton Universities.

It’s an annual, sometimes bi-annual ritual, and we of all people should be accustomed to it by now. The only problem is, they’re not even being creative about this year’s onslaught. It’s the easiest, laziest type of journalism, if it can even be called that. Irresponsible, yes, but it plays quite well in the press for at least a couple of months each year. The rhetoric is decades old, and the tactic, similarly, is woefully dated. Of course, rarely are there offered any solutions to our supposed plight. Yet the purveyors of black male slander, posturing themselves as “experts,” usually go on to win lofty honors and awards at black-tie chicken dinners for “reporting on the African American condition.”

Yes, slamming men of African descent. It’s a cottage industry that virtually drives itself. No other race of people so cavalierly demeans its men, nor does any other culture harbor such a readiness to do so. It’s as if America has moved on from the sinister Tuskegee experiments of 1932, to a more calculated, insidious assault on our collective psyche “with certain black peoples” (SNOOP’S) help. What’s more, so long as it still pays, no one black will ever step forward to address it for what it is. EBONY magazine latently inaugurated this tradition nearly a quarter-century ago, with its August 1983 “Crisis of the Black Male” special issue. Since then, virtually every black magazine, talk-radio show and web site, virtually every year, has followed suit with such hopeless editorial faire.

Ya know I first read this and was all worked up for a bit and initially had a much longer response (believe it or not), but I said to myself screw it.
When I see shit like this I know whoever writes these types of articles are simply being intellectually disingenuous. *cough* Michael Dyson *cough*
They are simply placating to a specific audience.

Ya see I have no blog ads, I’m not trying to make money off this blog.
I don’t write for a major publication, (what am I saying) a minor one for that matter.
I’m not trying to please anyone, win friends or influence anyone.
So as I have said countless times, I am perfectly willing to be 100 percent honest with the visitors to this site.

Any black individual who refuses to acknowledge the issues surrounding black men is a fucken fool.
Black folks are killing each other at record rates “Where’s the outrage over black-on-black killings?”
My former home Oakland set a murder record again and yes most of the victims were YOUNG BLACK MEN.

On a personal note, I remember one time when I was watching Boyz in the Hood I broke down in tears at the end of the programs as the text flashed on the screen about the fate of Doughboy. Not sympathizing for that particular character, but I grew up with some “Doughboys”

I was born in L.A. raised on South LaSalle Street in Inglewood.
On one of my first visits back to L.A in what was 20 years at the time, I visited with some old friends of my brothers, former neighbors. Bottom line he told us that all of the kids from our old neighborhood were all either dead or in jail.
My brother ran with Tookie Williams and many of the people who founded the Crips.
Imagine growing up in a neighborhood with all of your friends only to find out they are dead, murdered.
Why am I here today writing this, in a cushy office, with a wonderful wife and family and a pretty good life?

My dad worked his ass off got a promotion to run his own office and had the sense to get the fuck out.

So Mr. Childs before you go on publishing these boo fucken hoo, the white man is pickin’ on me bullshit you better fucken acknowledge the fact that black men are seemingly jumping into the quicksand on their own.

Are there examples of black men overcoming all of the bullshit, yes, but the negative realities for most black men are glaring hence they can’t be overlooked or glossed over and must be attacked head on.

Whitey is not, impregnating black women and leaving them and their kids to fend for themselves.
Whitey is not engages in a drug turf war in virtually every major American city killing niggas at a record pace.
Whitey is not getting out of jail playing the “down low” game giving AIDS to black women.
Whitey did not kill an entire neighborhood of young kids who were enticed by the notion of drugs and easy money.

And before any idiot wants to bring up the “well whitey controls the drugs going into those neighborhoods and whitey is the ones bring guns into the hood” fuck that.

If you want the negativity in the media to stop, if you want Judge Mathis, or Bill Cosby or Shelby Steele to stop dissing black men, then tell black men to stop fucking up.

Like it or not I’m in the same damm boat. I too have a vested interest in seeing things turn around for black men.

I would not look too cool using that shit Michael Jackson uses. Plus it would not look cool with the Afro I’m currently sporting :-)
