June 23, 2006(CNSNews.com) - Declassified portions of an intelligence report being promoted by two U.S. lawmakers confirm reporting in 2004 by Cybercast News Service that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, including mustard gas, when his country was invaded by coalition forces. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.) said the new report confirms that approximately 500 such weapons have been destroyed by the coalition since 2003 and that the U.S. and its allies are in a race against terrorist groups trying to control the remaining weapons.“This says weapons have been discovered, more weapons exist and they state that Iraq was not a WMD-free zone … that there are continuing threats from the materials that are or that may still be in Iraq,” Hoekstra, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said at a press conference releasing a summary report from the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC).
Santorum agreed.
“The idea that, as my colleagues have repeatedly said in this debate, on the other side of the aisle, that there are no weapons of mass destruction is in fact false,” Santorum said. “We have found over 500 weapons of mass destruction and in fact have found that there are additional chemical weapons still in the country.”
Cybercast News Service originally reported on Oct. 4, 2004, that “Iraqi intelligence documents, confiscated by U.S. forces and obtained by CNSNews.com … demonstrate that Saddam’s government possessed mustard gas and anthrax, both considered weapons of mass destruction, in the summer of 2000, during the period in which United Nations weapons inspectors were not present in Iraq.”

The president’s critics aren’t interested in facts. Anyone with any brains in their heads know there were chemical and biological WMD in Iraq. If Saddam Hussein had destroyed them all, and had documented that action as he was mandated to do by the terms of the ceasefire he agreed to after the first Gulf War, he would have cooperated with the U.N. weapons inspectors.
The anti-Bush libs will never stop their BS. When similar WMD were found earlier on, everybody complained that they were not “stockpiles”. Now that over 500 weapons were found, they simply move the goalposts again, and declare that these don’t count because the mustard gas is by now rather degraded. This is what liberals do. They are not to be taken seriously.
In any case, even if it’s true that some of the mustard gas has degraded, it’s irrelevant. The WMD were there, when Saddam Hussein declared they were not. Furthermore, sarin gas doesn’t degrade the way that mustard gas does, so these WMD are still quite lethal. Only three of these cannisters were able to kill over 5,000 Kurds, so we’re talking serious shit here.
